Reworks Upcycle Shop is like a DIY Pinterest board in the form of a real local business… except the products are actually amazing quality because professionals made them and not me! And if we wanna talk local, more than half their products are made in Canada and 99% from North America. We’re talking indestructible messenger bags made out of used seat belts that go as far as to tell you what kind of car they were salvaged from. I stumbled across Reworks without a clue what to expect, wound up doing a good chunk of my Christmas shopping here, and will be back to do a tonne more! Here’s what I found: — Purses made from pop can tabs creating a high quality aluminum chainmaille.(I bought 2 of ‘em) — Bottle openers from used bicycle chains.(I hope someone buys me one ;)) — Bowls from used bike chains… actually, there’s a lot of bicycle culture reflected in this store, which I think makes it all the more cool. The owner is a true bicycle fan and her store takes my lifelong love of bikes and brings it into the rest of my lifestyle with style. Used license plate clutches, bike tire belts, wine and beer bottle serving trays, chandeliers and everything. I imagine the product selection at Reworks changes often to keep reclaimed fresh, but even if all the awesome things I’ve mentioned no longer exist by the time you read my review, you’ll still be able to expect high quality and unbelievably creative local products here. If you’ve ever uttered the term«shabby chic» you need to check this place out.

Reworks is a great shop in Inglewood and is a go-to place for gifts, cool household items and interesting finds. I actually used their website to order up some things as well as gifts for people in other cities. It’s always nice to support shops like this your own city as they offer some pretty unique items you can’t find elsewhere.

I grew up in the age where they were teaching us to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in school. When I first moved to Calgary, the recycling program here wouldn’t take plastic containers. Recycling was so engrained in my habits that I’d save all of my plastic containers and take them back home with me just so they’d get recycled. When I first heard about Reworks I thought, «Upcycling? Hmmm…» And now I’m in love with this shop in Inglewood! Reworks has taken over the space that used to be Espy. Espy moves into a bigger store down the road, and Reworks gets to move into the neighbourhood. Sounds like a win/win if ever there was one! The shop is FULL of upcycled products… as in new products made from old products. There are some products that you can find time and time again and some new ones too. Purses made from ties, necklaces and earrings made out of old bicycle tire inner tubes, bracelets from old cut up credit cards, glasses made from old beer and wine bottles, wine stoppers made from old doorknobs with corks on the bottom, lazer cut jewelry made from old leather swatches, chip and chocolate bar packaging turned into little purses and pencil cases, record clocks, bathtubs turned benches(you can see one in Gravity), kids toys made from recycled plastic milk jugs, entire plastic kitchenware sets(cutting boards even) made entirely from recycled plastic that you can send back to be made into another dish if it gets too ratty or used, notebooks made from old book covers(I’m currently writing inside the covers of green eggs and ham!)… the list goes on! To say I’m a fan would understate how enthralled I am with Reworks and the products they’re stocking. I like it. I like it a whooooooole lot. If you’re ever looking for a place to buy me a present, get something here. And then we’ll have another win/win on our hands!

Cool store. The creativity and manpower it would take to come up with these recycled or «upcycled» products is remarkable. Every time I turned my head to look at something else I was thinking, «What a brilliant idea!» Prices of products are more expensive as a result, but you certainly walk out with unique items and it really makes you think about how much waste we generate. I’d really like to purchase a hanging lamp for my office at some point and may return sooner than later for a Seatbelt Tote. My friend bought a tote this weekend while we were shopping here and I’m quite jealous. It’s an eye catcher, for sure. I think my favorite items in the store right now are the loveseats made out of bathtubs. They sell spoon rings which are actually reasonably priced in comparison to another store I know of that sells them. I’m assuming that the woman who helped us is the proprietor. She is very friendly and knowledgeable.
