I love this place, I went down the other day to try a new burger and it was amazing! I love the environment, the food, staff everything. It was a full bar that had good quick, reasonable service

Simply the best pub in town. Good beer and eats with great company. Soccer live on weekends and midweek for major tourneys. Good DJs, bands, no reason to say no to the Ship!

Food is beyond bad. Drinks are quite expensive for a dump like ship and anchor. Don’t get the whole hype about this place. For a dive the prices are way too high.

Great spot, staff was a little slow but overall good food and good beer selection. Pretty good food selection, typical bar food but also good asian food selection.

This place does not get any more traditional as a out. From CEO to the dishes staff. Best pub in town

The food is actually pretty decent here, pub food wise. It’s not fancy by any means. But if you want to go get loaded on 17th without shitty dance music, this is your place.

This is a classic pub located on 17th Ave. They have a huge patio in the summer that is always full and inside is a rustic Irish feel. Line ups usually start by 10 on a weekend! Probably the best pub food I have had. Anything from borscht to pizza to veggie burgers, I’ve never had a bad meal there. Prices are extremely reasonable too. There is also a couple of dart boards at the back of the bar to keep you entertained.

This place was rocking on a Friday night. With that said, the waitress was still incredibly attentive, which is probably why we left with such a good buzz. Big plus was that they gave you the can of red bull when you ordered jäger bombs, so you could essentially order another round of jägermeister shots and use the same can. It’s loud and rowdy though, so don’t go expecting a quiet atmosphere.

I am all about the ship when I come to Calgary. I love punk rock bingo, and their patio is a great place to just sit and chill during the summer. The crowd is usually really relaxed and positive too. My only gripe is the fact that the service is SOSLOW. It doesn’t matter if it is busy, or there is one other table in the bar — you’re going to be waiting a long time for your server. They need to pick up the pace. One menu item that I really enjoy is the steak salad.

The food really wasn’t very good. Cheap though so there’s that. Service was ok. Music was loud heavy punk. I do t mind it but don’t love it. They were having punk rock bingo that night apparently too but we decided to exit before it began as we’d finished eating. Grungy atmosphere with darts at the back and a little stage at the front. probably would not go again.

I remember this place when it was half the size and there was an old cd player for music! Service was quick in this crowded establishment. Lunch was ordered and arrived reasonably quickly. Fish and chips for around 10 bucks and lamb shank for 12 was good value. Fish was better than I have had in a while. While the Ship is a bit rundown… err…has character, it is a good spot for decent pub fare and pints!

The major things that distinguish the Ship & Anchor from other watering holes is live and tape delayed showing of English Première League Soccer(rivalled only maybe by The Pint further down 17th Ave SW), and that the South-facing patio is always open(making it my go to spot for Chinook days in winter). While most reviewers here love the unpretentiousness, and I appreciate it, this doesn’t garner stars for me since almost every neighbour pub in town is unpretentious too. What you will get at the Ship & Anchor more often than not is live music, a reasonably priced selection of 20 or so beers, okay food(the Ploughman’s Lunch is the best menu item IMHO), and lots of people in tuques. If you hang out here with friends regularly, it’s likely a 5-star atmosphere. If it’s your first time, or you go alone, you might wonder what all the fuss is about.

Great atmosphere — I love this place. And I’m so glad after all these years it’s still here — that makes me happy! Every time I’ve come here I’ve had an awesome time! This most recent time we came in for drinks and breakfast, and left satisfied. There are events happening all the time, just check out their chalkboard calendar near the back, so cool. I’d hang out here a lot more often if I lived in yyc!

Damn you Calgary — share the pub wealth with your fair weather neighbours! If you were to send over just one or two of your nifty little pubs, I promise we’ll stop talking about seafood quality in all our reviews. Deal? I’d steal The Ship. This little(not at all) local haunt is pretty damn well up my alley — from the live drinking tunes, to the somewhat blasé but epically entertaining service staff, to the access of rib sticking food to cure hangovers… it soundly gets this Newfoundlanders stamp of approval.(Hey, I said i’d stop talking about seafood, not our inherent ability to judge a good brew haunt.) They’ve got some sweet local beers on tap, as well as your basic Sunday morning classics — namely Strongbow(it’s like beer for babies. Headache approved.) I only went in the one time, but the food was decent pub grub(if a little under seasoned), the patio was packed and it’s a sweet spot to people watch(and if you’re lucky, comes with a cute bulldog to make faces at. Bulldogs always win bonus points.) So would I go again? Yup. If I lived here, would I frequent this place for both hangover remedies and the libations that cause their need? You betcha. Did I have a moment where I thought — you know what? I could see myself living here, sipping beer on this patio every sunny day while my sidecar motorbike and doggle wearing, kerchief clad bulldog Frankie hangs out next to the railing? Momentarily. You’re wearing this stubborn lass down Calgary. Good on ya. Go here. Drink booze. Talk to strangers and win Sunday.

Come as you are, enjoy good food and cold beer at great prices. If that’s good enough, enjoy a wide variety of free entertainment. It’s a Calgary staple for a reason.

Oh the Ship. I wonder how long you’ve been around for? You seemed to have outlasted the test of time compared to these trend bars that appear out of nowhere with their wait lines of tennis skirts/untucked dress shirts that weave around our streets like a human intestine only to wither away into empty disco floors with old sweaty sunken drunk eyes nearby pawing at those poor waitresses. According to FFWD you’re the top place to «meet» someone or rather, a locally known«meat» market. What does that mean? I certainly have enjoyed your burgers, especially your entries for the YYC burger week and the occasional beef garnish on your EPIC nachos. But have I met interesting individuals? Yes, and I’ll save those stories when I decide I want my reputation as a «nice guy» soiled. But overall, I’ve never been to any other place that’s welcomed people from all ages, income, and culture all linked by one common attitude: you had to be chill as fuck. Stay golden pony boy. Ship, ship, ship. Methinks I’ll be celebrating many birthdays, catch-up beers, post-tryst-lets-set-the-terms-chats, and times when I just want to sit on your patio and watch society drift by. or find a way to edit my intellibabble that are my reviews. Bottom line Ship, your drinks are cheap, but your character is not. Fin.

A real pub is so much more than the beer and food they serve. It’s an eclectic community of people from all walks of life together to blow off steam and have a good time, and THIS is why I love The Ship! Oh yah, the beer and food is kickin’ too. PUNKROCKBINGO! Oh, this ain’t your Grannies bingo! Picture your classic game of bingo, but instead of lovely l’il 90 year old Betty(bless her heart) calling the shots, is a high-intensity leather-clad and foul-mouthed punk rocker to a back drop of heavy metal and hard core music! The prizes are a huge selection of garage sale gems! Over the years I’ve struck it rich with a mexican wrestling mask, a My Little Pony puzzle, and some 70’s era Playboy magazines. Cha-ching! Tip: Know your cards and beware the«Bullsh*t Bingo». If you call ‘em incorrectly you’ll be bending over on stage for a public paddling. For shame! Leave your inhibitions at home and get ready for a great time. If you’re committed to making it to work on Tuesday, and are looking for a little more low-key, This Ship is also a fantastic place for a summer evening patio session, or Sunday brunch. Props to Janna L. for talking Bingo with me and inspiring this review!
