Checked it out during Nuit Blanche. It was an interesting space and there’s a downstairs area as well where some artists can exhibit. Clean, friendly, inviting and free, make sure to drop by and check it out the next time you’re on an Art Walk or participating in First Thursday.

Staff here is always pleasant, and I love the exhibits they had for Saturday evening. None of them an official Nuit Blanche exhibit, which was probably the reason why they felt a little more… approachable and as one of my friends put it, engaging. Stairs to the exhibition room below are old, rickety and tricky, so make this your first and not your last stop, if you are visiting on a First Thursday and have knocked back a few and made friends with the wine and cheese plates.

Stride Gallery takes its existence in stride celebrating 25 years in operation this 2010. This is a nice well lit space in the heart of the Beltline community. I found the gallery open at nearly 6 today when other shops around it had already closed for the evening. I was greeted by very nice staff members who briefly explained the show that was hanging there and gave me the space and time to take it all in. The artist showing was giving their personal perspectives of Van Gogh’s most popular paintings, and then recreating that feeling on paper, on canvas and in textile forms. The show was both well curated and well lit. Stride accepts submissions from Canadian artists and tries to feature 6 shows a year. They are Arts funded so if anyone is interested in buying the works there, Stride will pass you the contact details of the artist themselves to negotiate sales. January 8th will feature new artists’ showings at Stride pairing a photography exhibition with an architectural instalment in the space located downstairs of the Gallery.
