One of my favorite stops during First Thursdays, the atmosphere here is always friendly and engaging. Nuit Blanche on Saturday was no exception, and I enjoyed the interactiveness of the exhibit they had that evening. Also, they generally have Steam Whistle and/or Honey Brown for these events and an affable guy manning the bar. So come, sign the guestbook and have a look around :).

Founded in 1983, Truck Gallery is a non profit artist run centre located in the historic Grain Exchange building downtown. The Grain Exchange building was built in 1909 and«contained the first passenger cage elevator in the city with an expanding door and wrought iron gate. The interior has hardwood trim throughout. The stair rails are of solid brass. On each floor, walk-in safes have painted pictures depicting life in Alberta including sheaves of grain, and a buffalo. The basement was designed as a bowling alley and billiard room» and now contains the Truck Gallery. Truck houses 15 shows a year with an emphasis on promoting Calgarian artists who have national status. Truck is open to the public between 11am and 5pm Tuesday to Saturday and admission is free. I have seen two very well curated shows at Truck plus have had the privilege of viewing their Camper programming. Camper is a project which shows artist made films and videos literally out of a camper and projects them onto walls of Calgarian buildings. The film I saw was projected onto a wall at the Eau Claire Market. With their gallery and especially the Camper program Truck is creating inventive ways to bring art into the community. So Keep on Trucking!
