Comfy place but lacklustre food. Crepes were thin pancakes and the roast potatoes were under cooked. Turkey bacon was a nice surprise but the turkey sausages were dry.

I wasn’t a fan of this breakfast place to be honest. The owners were friendly and chatty — we learned they are originally from the same area in Ontario which was neat. But friendly service is all this place really has going for them, at least from the food options I tried. I had the spinach and cheddar crêpe with a side of fruit. The crêpe was not what I was expecting. I was seriously hoping for a regular white crêpe with spinach and melted cheddar rolled up inside, maybe some sauce smothered on top… it wasn’t like this at all. The spinach was blended into the batter and came out very dry. The cheese inside was just ‘meh’. I asked for a side of hollandaise sauce which did no justice for the crêpe. The fruit bowl was okay but it felt like it sat out for a while. Although it was served cold, I could taste some type of preservative like lime or something on the outsides to keep it fresh. I was banking on some freshly diced fruit and a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth crêpe. I picked some potatoes off my date’s plate and they were alright. Definitely better than my crêpe. I will admit, I left disappointed.

I would like to start off by saying our experience here was so awful that I joined Unilocal just to be able to write a review of this restaurant. After a dismal experience at Casa Mia the previous day for breakfast, my husband and I decided to try Yolk today. We were greeted and seated quickly, but that was about as far as this restaurant made it in terms of service. Our meal started with a server whom we could only assume had some sort of mental handicap as coupled with the vacant stare and awkward shuffling about he seemed to have trouble comprehending we would like coffee to drink.(My husband later inquired as to whether he was in fact handicapped and we were told he was not. This being the case I think Yolk may need a bit more rigorous screening process for their servers as this guy was definitely not someone you’d want awkwardly leering at you while you’re trying to order breakfast). We were brought our coffee and our server then proceeded to disappear, only taking our order when he returned to ask if we would like more coffee and we reminded him he hadn’t taken our food order(he seemed a bit startled at this). We ordered a western skillet, a western omelette and a small fruit cup. The extra fruit cup really threw him for a loop and he needed another server’s help to enter the order. About 25 minutes later our food was delivered. Instead of the $ 1.25 small fruit cup I requested, I was brought the giant $ 5.50 fruit cup. After the first bite of the omelette I realised it wasn’t what I ordered(it was ham and swiss) and when I told a different lady(our server had again vanished) that it wasn’t my food she replied«Oh, that must be yours sitting in the window». Our server had grabbed the wrong plate of food, so when my omelette was delivered it was simultaneously cold from sitting at the pass so long and also burnt on the bottom. At this point I was pretty disgusted and my husband ended up eating most of mine(thank goodness I was brought the wrong fruit cup). When I asked how his was he replied that it could’ve been warmer, the cheese wasn’t melted and the skillet could’ve been served in an actual skillet. After waiting a while for our cheque to be delivered(we never did see the space cadet again) we had to go up to the register and ask to pay our bill. The woman asked how our meal was and when we explained the awful service she offered a discount but said she«had to check with her husband first». We said no thanks, paid our bill and then left. We won’t be returning and don’t recommend anyone else try this place.

This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Our waitress was not at all friendly. We waited over a half an hour for our food-which was terrible… the turkey sausage was inedible. the ham was dried out and hard to chew, let alone cut… the eggs made me sick – in the restroom before we even left the restaurant. the worst food I have ever had… I would never recommend this place to anyone!!!

Although we were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated with menus, we waited 25 min before someone came to our table. And the first words out of our waitress were even«hi» or «good morning» but rather«are you ready to order?» The service was bad, Allie(I think?) our waitress was obviously not the smiling or happy type of servers. The menu is very nice. But our food was cold and yet over cooked. And we couldn’t even say anything because the waitress only came back to our table after we were done/had given up. I think we’ll have to wait a few more months before we return, hoping that the floor staff will be more professional and the kitchen staff more experienced.

Couldn’t have been more impressed. Right out of the gate Yolk has nailed it. As I walked in the door I was very politely greeted and offered a seat. I needed a breakfast place with Wifi so I figured I’d try this place out. The manager was very accommodating, even providing me with an extension cord to use my laptop during my visit. Second is the restaurant’s aesthetics — newly renovated and very tidy. Waitresses were very courteous and were able to accommodate items not explicitly listed on the menu. The menu isn’t very pricey and the food is delicious. My order came with a bowl of fruit which I’m assuming is standard for all meals. A pleasant surprise. Good job with the opening Yolk, I’ll be back soon!
