Koreana is a Korean BBQ place where you grill the meat yourself. It’s located on the 2nd floor of Henderson Mall in Coquitlam. It’s actually been around for a long time now — probably around 10 years but I hadn’t been here in years so it was nice to try it out again. I haven’t tried their shabu shabu yet either so maybe we’ll do that next time. For 4 of us, we ordered the Combo A which is for 2 people priced at $ 42.99. This included 4 pieces of gyoza, salad, fresh lettuce, tofu soup, 2 bowls of rice, beef short ribs, marinated beef rib eye, pork, and chicken. Everything was pretty good but my favourite was the pork.
On top of this, we also ordered the non-marinated Sang Gal Bi which was already $ 34.99! They were pretty big pieces of meat so it took longer for this to cook through. Since it wasn’t marinated, you could really taste the true flavour of the beef. It was good but some parts near the bone were tough and difficult to chew on. For that price, I probably wouldn’t order this again and maybe just stick to the combos so you can try a bunch of different kinds of meat. The service was a bit slow and they were quite busy that day but even so, I don’t think it should’ve taken them as long as it did to bring out our food… We’re the ones who grill the meat ourselves anyways. Otherwise, we were all very full by the end of our meal and I would still say it was a successful lunch out. I wouldn’t mind coming back again next time. Groups of 4 or more are recommended so you can try more things. :) Food — 8⁄10 Service — 6.5÷10 Ambience — 7⁄10 Value — 7⁄10

This isn’t on the top of my list when I think of Korean BBQ. But the meat changed my mind. Beef was of the most top-notch quality. I couldn’t believe this was served for mere mortals like us. Unfortunately my party and I had to be assigned to a really narrow private room. Like you can’t even pass behind someone’s chair to go out unless the person occupying the chair stands up and pushes it under the table. It was that squished! However it wasn’t like we could sit out in the open dining hall because we were a large group of 8. Oh, and it gets better. Apparently that private room is the best one they have because the other room my party(minus me) got last time was much smaller. I’d be scared to find out the exact dimensions of it. Located in a super quiet and eerie mall of which I suppose the rumours of the rent being exorbitantly high and of the ownership being in the hands of a greedy Hong Kong millionaire must be true.

Been here once for dinner. I’ll give it a 4-star first. I’ll be back again and then I can give a more comprehensive review. My first dining experience here was a pleasant surprise given some of the bad reviews on Unilocal.Service was okay, not the best but hey as long as they are there when I called(even if I had to call a couple of times), I am fine with that. Food-wise, I must say that Koreana had the best Korean food of the 3 Korean restaurants I tried in Coquitlam. And it was also the only place that had the Korean Ginseng Chicken soup, which they served with a side serving of sesame salt. Other Korean restaurants I’ve been to in Vancouver didn’t know what I was talking about when I asked for salt to go with the Ginseng Chicken Soup. Not the cheapest place, but Korean food tends to be expensive. I’ll be back again for more Korean Ginseng Chicken. :)

Solid 3.5, as not much action happening but this place open til midnite, even on a tuesday night. food’s decent, but i say it’s more of a drinking place. nice private rooms too, big enough for 10 ppl. a wood theme throughout.

Their food is pretty good(grilling meat) but id say its quite expensive for their price and quality. Funny how every time i go there one of the waitresses always breaks a dish.

Came with my wife and son. Small place wasn’t too busy. We were served quickly and the food was pretty good.

The environment is okay… A little weird to be a restaurant, but to be honest, I only care about food. So I sat with friends, sat down and drunk some tea. And the waitress might have forgotten us, but it’s fine, there are only two servers at the time. So we ordered, and one of the server cracked open the fire and we just wait for it to warm up so we can start our BBQ. BUT just as we are about to do so, we smelled something weird – propane for sure, and there came a loud BANG soon after! It was scary dude; if you ever took simple science, you will know, it’s never funny when you smelled propane and there were a mini explosion. It was lucky that it wasn’t serious, other wise it would be a bad to end with the night of Dec 20th2012. One of the server walked over and checked everything, and 5 sec later, she decided to leave us alone and tend other customers. I don’t know if it was a little out of the blue, but my friend and I just simply left. I will never risk my life in a Korean restaurant; even if it meant to leave a dish full of good kimchi and top-notch beef. End of the story.

There was the three of us and we ordered the 2 person combo and it was enough food but I think my burner was«slow» and it went out one time. It was understaffed that night, they had two ladies in the whole restaurant and we were waiting for service. Food was good though

This place was exceptional. My girlfriend and I had a 2-person combo and the amount of food was quite high(we were overfilled), and it tasted fantastic. I found they gave us more options for sauces and condiments than other Korean BBQ places I’d been previously. Like most places of its type, it’s not a cheap affair, but its value is quite high.
