Tough Unilocalers here, it’s as authentic as it gets in that they’re Chinese chefs. While they do cater to the Westerners, they’re making the popular tasty dishes: just here to get filled up, right? Lol Ordered the Ma Po tofu. Even had more preserved veggies than I expected. Good value for $ 12 or so. Smooth pieces(guess tofu can’t be hard) and lots sauce. Kudos for using environment-friendly takeout. It’s a new location from North Road due to Skytrain, where they were there for 10+ years or so. This one is spiffier, 3 tv’s and booth seating. Actually, quite huge, fits 100 ppl. Free parking. And it’s truly legit, accepts debit/credit lol. Friendly service.

Thought I was going to the Austin Diner(which was GREAT!) & found out it had been bought out by these new people. I figured I might as well give them a try. I ordered a combo plate to go & ask that they split it into 2 takeout containers.(the combo plates at the Austin were enough to easily feed 2 people). They informed me that the takeout container would cost .50, & I said«Really, are you kidding me?!, well ok go ahead. Then they said it would be another .50 to split it! I left at that point. It was just too ridiculous for me. I should have tweaked to the fact that there was only 1 couple eating there at dinner time on a Sunday! I will definitely not be returning!

It’s a great place to do Chinese take out. Its reasonably priced with very predictable flavors. Its a Chinese place so I don’t know why people have to come on Unilocal and complain about the western food. Yes they serve up western options, but just stick to their Chinese menu. They have solid discounts for pick up/take out. I also find that their portions are large, making it easy to have leftovers for lunch the next day to take to work. Sweet and sour pork, chow mein, beef and broccoli. Usual suspects.

We have ordered from this place twice. The first time delivery was pretty quick and most of the food was good. We ordered sesame chicken, bbq pork chow mein and ginger beef and everything was good, but the ginger beef was not as good as we hoped. Last night we ordered again through the Just Eat app and I didn’t realize I had to add a tip when ordering as I thought they would run my credit card at the door or have a line to add a tip. The driver was 20 mins late and when I asked if he needed to run the card he said no and asked for a tip. I only had a loonie on me and apologized, but who does that and he was quite rude about it. After he left we started to open up the food. We again ordered the sesame chicken and bbq pork chow mein, which were good. We decided to try the Szechuan beef and it was all big hunks of vegetable with only a couple small pieces of beef. It was very disappointing. My biggest pet peeve is with chinese restaurants that try to rip people off by filling their dishes with excessive amounts of cheap vegetables when you order meat dishes in order to save money on their end.

We were very disappointed with our order for delivery. Everything we ordered tasted awful, including almond chicken which we love every other time we have had it at other Chinese restaurants. This was coated in sugared almonds and the bottom of the pieces were soggy. The corn and chicken soup was slimy and inedible. The other 3 simple dishes, beef chop suey, bbq pork fried rice and chicken chow mein were edible, but nothing special. We won’t order there again. Big disappointment.

Sometimes you are hungry and just crave for basic N. American simple Chinese food like Sweet and sour pork, next to some stirfry vegetables and a bed of stirfried rice or noodles, then this is it. The same could be had if you went to the T&T and ordered takout but unless you live next to a T&T, its not convenient. I wouldn’t drive out of my way to eat here as I’m sure most communities have something similar. I just can’t get over ordering eggs and toast from a Chinese restaurant. doesn’t seem right but you can aswell. I have no plans on ordering that anytime soon here.

Breakfast is average. Nothing bad or poor nor was it unique or great. Sausages were good quality. Pricing for the standard breakfast of toast, 2 small eggs, 3 sausages and shredded potato hash browns was just under 7 bucks. Interior looks newer with new tables, chairs and 3 large flat screen TV’s but nothing special. It’s one of those slightly updated western Chinese restaurants. Service was polite. I’d only go back for breakfast if I needed to and was in the immediate area.

It is clean, friendly and not expensive place to eat. Yes, they don’t have a perfect English but you can always drop by and order from the menu — it takes 10 – 15 to prepare basically any order. Menu is huge, and portion are big so order something that you know and tried before(e.g. Fried rice or chow mein)

Best ginger beef in the world love this place. Everything we get from them is fresh and in really good containers for leftovers. Yum yum.

I don’t know what just happened. I thought I was ordering from Sun Gong Chinese on North Road and Clarke. I guess my takeout menu was a bit dated because my combo«A» was different than what I ordered, and the takeout menu included was from Sun Star Restaurant instead! I’m guessing Sun Gong closed and Sun Star snapped up the number(explains why there’s three phone numbers listed). So I think«that’s weird» but I’ll give it a try(what else am I going to do?!), and it was not good. Everything’s really greasy and dry. My order was sweet and sour pork, egg fried rice, chicken chow mein, vegetarian egg roll, and wonton soup. The only thing I haven’t tried is the wonton soup, but I’ve completely lost my appetite, and I couldn’t imagine that it would be any better than the other dishes. Even if it was, it definitely isn’t worth ordering from this place.

This place used to be Austin Heights Diner — a favourite cheap eats place of mine that I had been going to and ordering delivery from for years. Recently they closed down, renovated and reopened as the New Sun Star restaurant. Contrary to what reviewer«B. H.» stated in their review this place is not better, in fact it has gone horribly downhill since reopening as Sun Star. While the menu has mostly stayed the same they changed many of the recipes — the once delicious and perfectly deep fried pot-stickers are now soggy lumps of dough, which was a huge disappointment because they were my favourite thing on the menu. Many of the menu items have shrinked in size but expanded in price. Everything just kind of seems to be slapped together without any care at all. Even with all those changes I still ordered from them on a weekly basis, but after the last delivery order I have officially blacklisted this place and they will never see another cent from me. The woman who answers the phone is completely incompetent. In the 10 times I have ordered from this place since it reopened they have screwed up my order… 10 times. Yep, every single time they mess it up. Even if I have the woman on the phone read the order back to me to make sure they have it right, they still fuck it up. The last time I ordered from them they not only sent me the wrong burger(again!), the burger was put together in such a way that I could tell they realized they had made the wrong thing but didn’t care. I had ordered a Hawaiian burger and they send a Mexican burger with pineapple thrown on top of it, probably hoping that I wouldn’t notice they made the wrong thing. I will not ever eat here again and I would not suggest it to anyone I know.

Nope. Just nope. I will literally never, ever, EVER order from here again. The delivery service is awful. Like«trying to watch Hulk Hogan act in a serious movie» kind of awful. When this place was the Austin Heights diner I used to order from here a few times a month and I enjoyed it. Oh how I long for the days of yore… This has been the 5th time that I have ordered from the New Sun Star with my wife and this has been the 5th consecutive time that they have messed up our order. We literally did not get anything we ordered made correctly. We ordered a hawaiian burger with no ham and a teriyaki chicken cheese burger. What do we get? A mexican burger that had pineapple added to it and a cheese burger with bacon. I immediately called the restaurant back after our food had arrived and the kitchen was closed. We were offered credit in the form of 1 free burger next time we ordered. Normally I would be fine with something like this as it’s friday night and mistakes can happen. But it is the FIFTHFREAKINGTIMEIN A ROW! Now, not only that but when I placed the order I asked the woman taking it to repeat it back to me. She had missed one of the items so I reminded her and asked her to repeat back the order once more to make sure she had it right(normally I’m really not that kind of guy, but from our past experiences ordering here I just wanted to be sure our order was right this time). I’m really not sure what more I could have done… They probably have better service in hell. Past mistakes have included giving us gravy instead of soup(or maybe they just thought it was the most delicious, greasy soup ever… I’m not here to judge), on a separate occasion we were given a mexican burger instead of a hawaiian burger, and another time they forgot our drinks. Let me put it this way: If you could give a review 0 stars I would still try to give this place a negative rating. I need this place like a need a bullet to the brain.
