As a downtown Dartmouth denizen, it’s hard being rough on Celtic Corner. But let’s be real, the food isn’t that good(nor bad) and the bar service is usually lousy. But in the summer, it’s a great patio, Tuesdays make for good times at the open mics, and it’s a rousing experience to be there during a rugby match.

Loved their sweet potato fries with curry mayo. That curry mayo is amazing. Had the ploughman’s plate which was alright. Bread wasn’t super fresh. Just regular cheese. And not a whole lot of garnish. Nachos were pretty standard good nachos. Lots of cheese. Beer is on the pricey side but its good and fresh. Roof top is really great but kind of ridiculous to get to. Downstairs is super nice.

Let’s start with the good — the patio is great! Went here on a really sunny lovely day. Really big and has great views of the harbour, It’s a really great place to visit in the summer, I’d suggest taking the ferry over from Halifax, to double your great views of Halifax action. The bar downstairs is large and really nice as well. Good beer selection. This all sounds great right? Why the two stars? Here comes my two star review: the food. My friend and I ordered the seafood platter, it was not that great. not even for a pub. I’ve eaten a ton of seafood over this past summer and this was the worst. It was so bad I was sick all night when I got home. Really disappointed, I have an iron stomach usually, but not with this seafood platter. I’d suggest going and enjoying the patio and a drink, but maybe avoid the seafood platter!

The Celtic Corner is definitely the best bar in Dartmouth. I live in Halifax so I don’t get there that often but since I grew up on that side of the harbour I have lots of friends that still live over there. When we meet up it usually is the half way point which would be the Celtic Corner. This place has a fantastic patio that is open during the Summer months, you walk up a set of back stairs, through a parking lot and end up in a little oasis overlooking the harbour with great views of Halifax. They have your standard bars on tap, reasonably priced and some decent pub food to indulge in. Friday nights are the best night to go if you are looking for a bit of a crowd. Which is a mix of locals who have lived in the neighbourhood for years, and people coming home from work in Halifax. With the new buildings in the area you get a good mix people and there is always a story to be told at the end of the night. There is a live band on the weekends, mind you it is usually one of those typical maritime bands playing hits from the 90’s and staples like«Farewell to Nova Scotia» and«Barretts Privateers». They also have a great breakfast menu, reasonably cheap and good portions. Try their Breakfast Quesadilla. All in all a decent spot to have a few pints with friends on the other side of the Harbour, great excuse to take ride on the Ferry and see Dartmouth.

Classic Pub, delicious food, great service and MAYBE the best patio in the HRM. Oh you want MORE??? Well I don’t get to Dartmouth too often but when I do in the summer, I usually end up here on the patio. They have such a fantastic view of the Halifax skyline. The perk of Dartmouth is looking at the waterfront of Halifax. The food is simple but consistent. You will not be disappointed but it is your standard pub fare. Their Fish and Chips were pretty on point, even in a city full of F&C’s. The service is always great friendly, helpful and not overwhelming. There are a million more things you could say that are great about this place, but really it’s fun, cozy and always worth the trip!

I just love the Celtic. They can accommodate large groups on weekends for live music, and they’ve got snug little hidey-holes for intimate date nights. The staff are awesome, the curry and chips are TODIEFOR and the Guinness is cold. Also, their rooftop patio has gorgeous views of the Halifax Harbour in the summertime(and there’s a tap up there, so no long waits for suds! Bonus!)
