Now that I am an aunt family outings now include young children, so when you find a restaurant that caters to children and grownups, you go there! They don’t have a specific play space for children but the wait staff acknowledge them and interacted with them wonderfully, and now just our server. they offered to rush order they kid’s food, which of course we said yes, so they weren’t kept waiting, getting impatient from sitting still and hunger, so that was a plus, next their portion sizes were one size down from an adult size, which was surprising but welcoming, so we got to snack on fries while we were waiting for ours. But aside from the food, what left an impression of me, was when my(4 year old) nephew was upset about something and was crying about whatever, one of the staff, came over and started juggling jam packets for him, and included him by getting him the toss jam packets for him the catch and juggle, immediately calming him down, and making him smile. I’m sorry I just didn’t get his name. As for the food, if you are craving a really good burger and fries combo, steak, and even salmon, as they offer a wide selection, but not overwhelming selection and in the Dartmouth neighbour, this is the place to go. They do classic canadian comfort food right. but as my review suggest, I was thrilled with the service, and you will too.

Great place to go. The food is always good, the prices are also good. The tables are cramped and there is usually a wait, but it’s been in business since 1963 and locals love it. Try the fish cakes and beef melt, it’s wonderful.

This place is great… Service and food. You can’t go wrong with anything. The beer is the coldest I ever had making you want more. Try it. You won’t be disappointed. It is a busy place but well worth the wait. I ate in the little private room once. It’s noisy and hot it the place is full. I would try to sit by the bar. Lots of room and not loud. There used to be a guy there that would sing Happy Birthday at the top of his lungs(he was good) don’t know if he’s still there but if you are going there for a Birthday Supper try to get him. I’m sure he would take a tip too.

Great food, great prices and even on such a busy night we didn’t have to wait long to get a table. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, will be stopping by again!

Best steak in Metro Halifax. Steak and lobster meal is a bit on the pricey side, but due to market conditions I guess. The waiter who sings Happy Birthday is hilarious. The whole restaurant claps for him as he really puts some effort into it.

Good food overall but a bit over priced. Service is horrible. Use to love this place but the service staff have ruined it. Lots of people experience the same issue. For the price, it’s worth a trip to another restaurant where service is better.

Came here for the first time in a couple years with my brother on a Tuesday early afternoon. We had an awesome server who suggested we had«the best burger in HRM» we were in the mood for burgers anyways so we each had the burger he had suggested the Mushroom Swiss burger which was a lunch special and was told it is every Monday and Tuesday. The burger was amazing — it had a peppercorn sauce, Swiss cheese, jalapeño bacon, fried onion nest on top and a lot of mushrooms(maybe a little too many) we each got fries and a drink. The meal was really good and very filling and we both got out of there for about $ 15 including tip which is amazing. Have been going here for years and will continue to do so, great service and amazingly delicious food.

2nd visit for me: around 10am on a cloudy Saturday morning in March. I was expecting it to be busy with a possible wait to get in, but it wasn’t even half full! We took a table at the far back of the restaurant on the left hand/brighter side. Server was friendly but maybe a little busy because we seemed to wait a bit to order, and then for our food, and then were forgotten about for our coffee top-ups, and then our bill took another while. I wasn’t so much bothered by that, but my parents were a bit impatient with it, considering the place again, wasn’t that full. A larger group of St Paddy’s Day partiers did arrive though, assuming they were heading to the Halifax St Paddy’s Parade. The breakfast $ 10 special they were happy with though.(eggs, lots of sausage links, home fries & toast). I had the western omelet(no ham) with home fries, and was definitely full and satisfied. I’m not blown away by this place the way many people are, but I’d still go back any time. 3rd visit: breakfast around 9am on a sunny Saturday in April. The place was again, mostly empty, surprisingly. My partner loved the $ 10 breakfast special of bacon, eggs, toast & spicy home fries. This time I got the Eggs Benny with request for tomato instead of ham, and it was good, but I was too full to finish it. I don’t remember the home fries being as salty before, but they were still very good. The bathrooms were very clean and smelled nice. LOL

Arrived tonight for dinner with family. For a Wednesday night I was amazed at how busy it was! Which is great because seeing local businesses being successful is wonderful! Food: They had a large assortment of food choices. Everything we ordered came out in record time. Hot and very fresh ingredients. The side condiments were all served in individual plastic cups. which once you order a few meals at a time they become slightly intrusive. Service: when we got to the table we were all missing knives, and one of us a fork. The waiter was friendly but seemed a little over worked or perhaps distracted. We had ordered nachos as an appetizer; when our main course came they never picked up the dishes from the nachos so it left the table quite cramped. Our waiter checked up on us very quickly but didn’t really give us the time to respond before he ran off to help over customers. We also would have like refills on our water/inquired on beverages more then the initial order. Over all its a nice friendly place to eat: some improvements on the service side might be needed, but a work in progress is better than not trying at all!

A nice evening out with colleagues in a great family restaurant. I’m told this place is always busy and they don’t take reservations. Service is quick and friendly and our server had a great sense of humor. Reasonably priced food, ridiculous big portions, and tasty so you can’t go wrong. Deep fried pepperoni… May sound weird but an absolutely tasty treat with a honey Dijon dip! Fish and chips is a popular choice and the tenderloin steak was cooked perfectly with a nice secret seasoning that they add to it. Giant baked potato and veggies accompany the main. No room for dessert but would love to come back and try everything on the menu!

Got a chance to check out the new Mic Mac Bar and Grill location last week after a BBQ date with good friends was rained out. We have been going to the Mic Mac for years and this was our first time since they moved to the new location. The new location is a great change; if you ate at the old location you know how it is almost always packed and there was no place to wait for a table. This meant that hungry patrons waiting for a table were lined up out the door or hovering over people finishing off their meals. Not a positive experience for either. The new, larger location fixes that with a host, who takes your name if there is a wait for tables, and a long, padded bench in the entrance. Especially for older patrons the latter is a nice. We were told that there would be a twenty minute wait for seating and that the kitchen was backed up so it might be as much as 30 minutes after we placed an order that we’d get our food. If we were in a rush or starved that was good to know up front. Well, we were starved but really why would you go anywhere else when you were already at the Mic Mac. It just isn’t even a question. As my charming dining companion and I went a bit early to get some rare time to talk without kids, and the waiting area was already full, we chose to wait outside. However, there were gaggle of smokers right by the front door. This meant we couldn’t stay handy the hostess to check on our seats and if we’d gone inside every time it was opened smoke drifted in. We chose to wait in our car. This was a bit of a pain as we had to get out and walk back to the Mic Mac every time There needs to be a buffer from the smokers around the front door/waiting area. The hostess’ prediction was accurate and about 20 minutes later we were being seated. The décor is dark and the new location inherited some of the old furniture, including the uncomfortable, hard 80s pub chairs with them. I’d describe the décor as Steak and Stein circa 1990s if I’d ever been in one. The wall is full of pictures of old Dartmouth and from the owner’s family photo albums which is the one nice touch.
If I had any concerns that the food wouldn’t be as good at the new location my fears were allayed as soon we dug into the«loaded» potato skins. Loaded means the Pangea-sized serving is covered with a layer of molten cheese and what looks like an entire package of crumbled bacon. The skins are flavoured with the same delicious spice that is used for the steaks and are thin and crispy; none of the flavourless half-a-potato chunks of semi-cooked spuds that you get at some bars. The loaded skins were about $ 14. Split four ways they were an excellent appy and kept us satisfied until the meat main-event. If there are better potato skins in HRM I need to know where and now. I had the striploin with a side caesar salad and garlic bread with cheese(yes more cheese). It was $ 25 for the 16 ounce steak and sides. I noticed that the prices had increased from last time which is understandable given the rising cost of beef. As always the steak is cooked just the way you ordered so there is no need to as for another grade down to make sure you get it the way you like: rare here is rare. Every bite was perfect. The salad was nothing special but there was real bacon on it and the dressing didn’t come in a Kraft packet. I’ve heard their burgers are very good and believe it. The brunch options look good too. Someday I’ll have to try something else on the menu but when the steaks are this good it will be a hard sell. There were no local beer options which is too bad. The most exotic thing on tap is Rickard’s. A craft brew would have made a great companion to the meat-fest. With two steaks, non-adult beverages, a tea and splitting the skins with our friends the bill came to just over 70 bucks with tip and tax. Not cheap for pub grub but then again I think the Mic Mac has better food than your average pub. It was nice to try out the new location to see that if anything the Mic Mac is even better than ever.

Fabulous service and tasty food. I was surprised how quick the service was given that it was father’s day and the restaurant was packed with many people waiting for a table. Quite possibly one of the best hot turkey sandwiches I’ve had; turkey was moist and the bread was covered in the perfect amount of gravy. Our server was prompt and friendly. My boyfriend his Dad both had steak, they were impressed. Bf’s sister and her husband both had the clubhouse. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was perfect for a father’s day late lunch. We’ll definitely be back!

Mic Mac now has a new location and it is better than ever. You no longer have to hunt out a table because you will be seated. It is much bigger now so even if there are people waiting ahead of you there’s a good chance you wont be waiting long. There is also a separate entrance for take out. The food is delicious, they have great beer choices and the waitresses are always awesome. I recommend trying their potato skins while others would recommend their lobster dinner. Cheers!

Before my friend and I ventured to nearby Cole Harbour for a benefit auction, a stop at the Mic Mac Bar & Grill was necessary as we were both craving a nice brunch. I was looking forward to the new and improved Mic Mac, and, not surprisingly we entered to a packed house. It is a rather wide open spot, divided into 2 large areas and it seats around 150 – 200 people. When I looked at the menu, I had to do a double take when I noticed the sausage brunch — 2 pieces of toast, hash browns, eggs, and 5 sausages — for just $ 10.50. With the large crowd in attendance, I thought it would be about 30 – 40 minutes for the food to arrive, but I was proven wrong when it was served in about 20 minutes. Both quantity and quality of the food were top notch as was the service although it was one person taking the order, another person serving the food, and another asking if we wanted a refill on our pop. Something I found quite funny(and puzzling) was that one of the servers(a tall blonde) had a trainee name tag on; an immediate flashback to those Zellers trainee cashiers from the 1990s immediately popped in my head. She seemed to be a good sport about it though and it shouldn’t be long before she gets a proper name tag from management. The washrooms were also pretty clean and I can tell the staff genuinely care about the clientele despite the mass of people on this day. Another trip to the Mic Mac will definitely be on our agenda in the near future.

The new location? Excellent! All the charm of the old but in a new, updated interior. Now, as a vegetarian, you might not think I’d be a fan of this place. You’d be wrong. While this is admittedly a meat-centric place, there are quite a few good vegetarian dishes. Personally, I’m a fan of their Greek salad. You can also get the potato skins without bacon and those are delicious as well. The mozza sticks? They’re okay. Not the best. My only major gripe? The potato wedges come loaded seasoning that I don’t like. Apparently you can ask for them plain but I’d prefer that is the default. The space is somewhat noisy as well as it’s a fairly open space. You should also assume that it’s busy. Almost every time I went, we had to wait for a table. Staff need to learn to better estimate the wait time — we were told 45 minutes and were seated in 5 minutes.

If you live in the Darmouth area, you know this is THE place to eat. The food is always fresh, fast and local. Many of the servers have been working there for over thirty years. Whenever we are having a family gathering, it’s straight to the Mic Mac. Warning: if you come here at supper time, the place is so popular, expect to have a bit of a wait! They make the best ribs I have ever eaten. If you want yourself a real steak, this is the place to get it. Thick, juicy and good luck finishing your entire plate.
