My husband and I decided to try this restaurant last night. We were very disappointed! I ordered and garden salad and my husband ordered spring rolls as an appetizer. He had his gone before I even got my salad. When I received my salad it was basically a plate full of iceburg lettuce with about 3 tiny pieces of over ripe mushy tomato and about 4 small pieces of pineapple. There was more peanut sauce on the side than there was salad. Basically they charged $ 10.00 for a plate of iceburg lettuce. It was terrible and I could not eat it. Then we got our main courses. I ordered cashew chicken. When I took a bite all I could taste was fish and I don’t like fish. I realize there is oyster sauce in Thai food but they had to have cooked the chicken in the same pan as the previous fish order. Could not eat any of this. My husband had a pork dish, no better. What ended up happening is we spent over $ 80.00 on a meal that we could not eat and a bottle of wine that was more like half wine, half water! Never again!!! Keep in mind that I have been to Australia and Singapore and have eaten Thai food in both places. I have always enjoyed it up to this restaurant. They claim it is authentic Thai food. I beg to differ as I have experienced the real thing on more than one occasion. I can’t begin to tell you what this was but it wasn’t food either one of us could eat and we are not fussy people! We went down the street and got a pizza. Four thumbs down!!!

The hubby and I ordered takeout from here last night and we are fans. We normally would get Cha Baa Thai and drive all the way to Burnside but this is much closer and just as delicious. From the time we ordered to the time we picked it up and got home was maybe 15 minutes in total and everything was still steaming hot when we popped it open. We had crispy spring rolls — a little too greasy for my liking. I know they are deep fried(hence crispy) but these were still dripping in grease. Not what I’m used to and I don’t think they’ll go on the re-order list. Chicken Pad Thai — there was so much of it and it was everything you’d expect. Cashew Chicken — a great medley of chicken and veggies with just enough heat to make you reach for your wine glass :) Masaman Curry — This is always a favourite of mine but I found it much more runny than others I’ve had. There was a lot of sauce but not a lot of beef or veggies. I don’t know if they core compensated on sauce due to the lack of everything else or if this is how it always is. The flavour was still incredible though. It’s nice to see places like this in the residential areas of Dartmouth. We will most likely go back for more take out once my next Thai food craving hits :)

First time to Tai food. This restaurant was amazing. It was a good explosion with every bite. Staff was fantastic and service second to none. Love it there.

This. This is my favourite Thai place in the city — without question. If I could survive on Massaman Curry and Lemongrass Chicken only — I would never change my diet. Their staff is friendly, polite and great to work with. The restaurant is cute, but I’ve mostly had take out. Any time I’ve ordered take out or delivery, it’s always very quick and packaged nicely.

can’t believe this place was here for two years and I just find it now. Pad Thai is awesome and my favourite. I’ll be back soon.

I love this restaurant for the Ba cha pork or chicken. It is super spicy with ginger sticks green, beans, peppers and basil. So good on the jasmine rice. The crispy spring rolls are super delicious! I have tried a few other things but they were a bit too sweet for me one of which is the curried dishes. The other was a ginger beef dish can’t remember the name. I have heard good things about the cashew pork/chicken but haven’t tried it yet.

My husband and I recently moved to Cole Harbour and was very excited to see that Talay Thai opened a location here! We have only had the opportunity to have take out. We have ordered the Pad Thai, once with Prawn and one with Chicken. The portion sizes are huge, the prices are great, and it is tasty! Super fast take out! We can’t wait until we can head in to try some more delicious food.

This place really is at the pinnacle of Thai goodness! I’ve had a few things from this place and it keeps me coming back each week. If your hungry don’t look any further. They whip up a hefty serving of absolutely delicious Thai in every order.

I’ve been a handful of times now and the food is delicious. The Massaman Curry is my favourite, but the pad thai, the ginger pork, cashew chicken and spring rolls are all equally as good! I’ve had other things from here as well and I haven’t ordered something I haven’t cared for. If you’re like me and can’t decide what to order, I like to go with a group of 4 or 5 people(if possible), order a couple dishes and divvy it up! I’ve had great service when I’m there as well, always willing to explain something on the menu, patient, kind, kept our glasses of water full! That’s all I ask! I’ll be back in a couple of weeks, that is for sure!

My husband spotted this place when we were both famished. We are vegan so we weren’t sure they’d have anything but looked at the menu posted outside. They looked like they had some options so we went in. The waiter was extremely kind and helpful, letting us know what we could eat as a vegan. We ordered something called the Pad Seu Yei which they modified to make it vegan, as well as a spring roll. The food came quickly, presented nicely and ended up being extremely delicious. The atmosphere and décor was also extremely inviting and nice.

What is better then an order of masaman curry from Talay Thai? Ummmm… nothing. I’d been to the Halifax location and even though I pass by the Cole Harbour location just about everyday, this was my first time here. It won’t be my last. While the décor is not much compared to the Halifax location I think they might have upped it a bit since some of the older reviews. Though I did get take out this time, this location is suitable for a few friends going out for a fun dinner, not an intimate dinner date kind of place. But who cares when the food is this great! Placed my order of fried spring rolls & masaman beef curry, the very friendly gal who took my oreder reinforced that I’d ordered the best thing on the menu, and it was. Still hot when I got it home it was full of fresh sweet, spicy goodness with just enough crunch from the peanuts. For $ 24 with tax there was enough for two people or enough for my dinner and lunch the next day.

oh my goodness. I made a random stop here tonight and had I think one of the best asian meals I have ever had in HRM. I had the prawn/shrimp chips to start, and Pork Pat Chaa. Hot, but sooo flavourful. I’ll be back.

Great food and service at this location. I’ve come here on several occasions — once for a birthday dinner — and have had wonderful experiences. I’m a big fan of the Pat Chaa Kai, which never fails to scorch my mouth — and that’s hard to find these days. I’ve also sampled the cashew chicken(excellent), mango salad(great), and sweet ‘n’ sour chicken(also great). A tad pricey but worth every penny if you are a true fan of authentic Thai cuisine.

This place is alright! Definitely no Cha-Baa but it’s nice(and bad for my waistline!) to have pad thai so close to my house. The restaurant décor is pretty lackluster, however service was great and our water glasses were kept full, and our order was quick to arrive. We shared the thai fish cakes(NOTHING like I expected but they weren’t bad) and we each had an order of pad thai. Our food choices were pretty standard so I won’t give it a higher rating just yet, maybe if we go again I’ll try a variety of dishes instead of the go-to noodles to see how it really fares.

It’s great to see such diverse food establishments moving in to Dartmouth. Talay Thai is a welcome edition to Cole Harbour. We decided to go there for a birthday dinner. The service was fast and pleasant. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I always enjoy when an ethnic restaurant has beverages from it’s country. I had the ‘Tiger” beer with my Curry Duck and rice. Both were delightful. We were very surprised at the speed of the service. We only were sitting down for maybe 10 minutes and we had our dinner. The restaurant was about ½ full as well. My only complaint is the décor. With little to no art work on the walls it’s very ecco’y and loud. They really need some wall tapestries to absorb the sounds. If it wasn’t for this, they would have gotten a 5 star. Perhaps once they are in the location for more than a year they’ll collect some wall décor. Wheelchair accessible, no wi-fi.

I’ve eaten in and had take out, and while both were very tasty, I’ve had better Thai at their Halifax location. Eating in does leave a little to be desired décor and ambience-wise, there were price tags on some of the vases while I visited. The take out experience could be improved with better seating. Overall I’m happy to have Thai at this location in the city and would recommend the place if your in the neighbourhood.

I’m pleased there is more international cuisine in Dartmouth and happy to say the quality of food and service is fantastic. We dropped by around 5:30 on Saturday(before V-day) and the restaurant was already more than half full. We were greeted and seated immediately. My first impression: pretty plain, I hope the food has more taste than the décor. Both the food and service were terrific. Our server(Samantha) was friendly and attentive(without being intrusive). The menu well-rounded and seemed to have all the Thai standards. We started with spring rolls(you get 4, so good for sharing). I had the Duck Curry(red curry) — tasty, a nice amount of heat but could have had more duck. Paula had the Ginger Chicken — tasty, lots of chicken, but very spicy(note: it does have two chillies on the menu). Price: Glass of wine + shared appetizer + two mains + shared jasmine rice + tip = $ 62 A good night out in Dartmouth(Cole Harbour to be exact)

The good news is that another great Thai option has come to Dartmouth and it’s even closer than Cha Baa in Burnside-and oddly enough the exact same menu… and I mean, EXACT same. The bad news is that the restaurant itself lacks the character and ambiance that would ever make you want to eat there. Nothing on the walls, too many tables in too small a space, and a poor layout that funnels traffic into all the wrong places. BUT… the meals were absolutely delicious and ready for pick-up in 20 minutes flat, making Talay a DREAM for take-out. We got together with a friend and shared the spring rolls, both chicken and vegetarian Massaman curry(just get it-you’ll thank me), and cashew chicken. Total cost: just under $ 60. The veggies were fresh, the curry had a great balance of spice and sweet, and the Jasmine rice was the perfect vehicle for getting everything else off the plate down to the very last drop. Definitely adding this one to the take-out list!

I’m so happy to see another fantastic Thai restaurant open in Dartmouth. I tried the new location of Talay Thai on Saturday night. My friend and I got there early(shortly after 5pm) and the place was already hopping. Despite how busy the staff were, we were seated within about two minutes. By the time we left at 6:40pm, the line for a table was taking about ten minutes or so. We didn’t really stray too far from our comfort zone, ordering steamed rice, cashew chicken, red curry pork and shrimp rolls. The food was amazing. Just the right combination of heat, spice and flavour. While the shrimp rolls were tasty, I did miss my usual spring rolls. I probably won’t order them again — at least not instead of spring rolls. The food was fab, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere… needs a little work. The restaurant has only been open for 2 months, so one can only assume it’s a work in progress. I mean, Talay Thai Halifax is full-on eclectic, right? The Dartmouth location has bare walls, clean lines, and a few paper lanterns. Nice enough, but not what I expected. Definitely come for the food — you won’t be disappointed.
