I know of this roastery and I think they roast for Dark Horse(my fav in Toronto). Ordered a flat white, it tasted great. Very good customer service, he presumed we were take out and offered to make us a whole new one, we obviously said that was not necessary! Great place

Cycle friendly it once was, cycle friendly it is no longer. Teased with bike racks from the amazing Domestique Café, they block them with tables and chairs from the yet unopened patio. Yesterday, as we arrived and before we even had a chance to say ‘coffee’, we were told we would not be served. This is a sad disappointment as we had previously enjoyed many a wonderful lunches and coffee here.

Love Detour, have had several coffees there of different varieties. Staff knowledgeable and friendly coffees well made and treats fresh and yummy. My favourite café in Dundas, by far.

The cortado here was very, very good. One of the best I’ve had. The BLT was also pretty good, not to mention it was huge. I like that they offer a really diverse menu. This would be the perfect café except for the fact that they don’t offer wi-fi(don’t be mislead by the Unilocal business info)!

Cute spot on Main Street Dundas that’s clearly the café star of the strip. Detour was recommend by a friend(a local to boot) yet unfortunately left us with little desire to return. The coffee is good, not great. The staff were seriously unfriendly. The place was bustling yet the vibes weren’t welcoming. We hit the road and I’m in no rush to make a U-turn. Wouldn’t go out of the way for this detour.

Tiny place but good ambiance with quality products. Stopped in for a quick tea and cookie but stayed long enough to see that staff was competent and coffee were well appreciated!

Detour Coffee has been around for quite some time, especially for those who know Dark Horse Espresso in downtown Toronto. It happens that they have their own little café with a sizable patio in Dundas, Ontario which is just a neighbouring town next to Hamilton. As we sat at the patio, there’s just enough fencing to section of the area from the sidewalk and street but know full well it’s just few steps away. The Cappuccino and iced Americano were okay, didn’t explode my mind but the Reuben Sandwich was well a surprising find. [3.5] Reuben Sandwich($ 11.95) — The ultimate: Detour Smoked Meat plus Bubbie’s Sauerkraut, Melted Swiss Cheese and House Made Russian Dressing

The staff are very friendly, the coffee is good, and the atmosphere inside is quite nice. I would definitely go back again, it’s a great little place for a date or for hanging out with friends.(Ps. I recommend the steeped cider! It’s amazing)

Great local place with fresh, from scratch foods. I had the lentil beet salad with pulled chicken on top for more protein, Delish. Friendly service, fresh coffee and teas. It was a nice place to sit, dine, and relax. I would certainly come back. We are traveling through on vacation. Great place!

Great café. Nice old downtown location. Parking isn’t expensive. Great old world atmosphere. Nice service. Good place for lunch. The espresso coffee is excellent. Robust, smooth, full bodied. Bought some beans to take home. The café, surprisingly, does not have wifi.

Popped in for breakfast this morning however they were quite busy. Ended up with a latte and a morning glory muffin… Both of which were delicious! It’s been awhile since I had a latte that I enjoyed as much as that one. I even considered getting a second before I left but that would have made me severely over caffeinated. There is a lovely patio with tree covering which makes you feel like you are somewhere else entirely. It was a beautiful Sunday morning and nice to see so many people out and about walking and enjoying coffee.

I know where I going for lunch when I was planning My Day in the Hamliton/Dundas Area. I always want visit the actual Detour Coffee Roastery in Burlington but never got a chance. But coming here seems to be better as I can drink the coffee and eat their food too! The patio area is so calm and peaceful. And if you are not a coffee drinker, there are a lot of other options including Ontario wines and beers and even house made Sour Cherry Pop and even Nickel Brook’s Root Beer! We ended up ordering: Cappuccino($ 3.33) and Iced Americano($ 3) Reuben Sandwich($ 11.95) The ultimate: Detour Smoked Meat + Bubbie’s Sauerkraut, Melted Swiss Cheese and House Made Russian Dressing Rueben sandwich was amazing good. The meat was smoked perfectly. I really like their concept of locally sourced and house made ingredients! Detour Café is a great spot for lunch or just enjoy all their espresso and other drinks they offers. Now how I wish I have something like this in my neighbourhood…

I don’t want to be a soggy diaper, but I’m not a fan of Detour. I love that Detour roasts their own coffee. I love that they replaced their snooty servers with happy, bubbly, welcoming people. The location is great, the décor is nice, the patio is gorgeous. However, the last two cups of coffee I had were terrible. It was the stuff from the carafe… and it was bad. Very acidic and bitter, but not in a good way. Also, it was lukewarm. For a place that roasts their own coffee, I would expect it to be a highlight of the operation. Also folks, why must you hide the honey? If I’m paying over $ 2 for 16oz of drip coffee, perhaps you could have a small bottle at the sugar table. The sad truth is that currently, the best place for a cup of coffee in Dundas is Starbucks. All hail the mighty Borg. Resistance is futile.

We found Detour on Unilocal and we’ll definitely be back. Friendly staff, very nicely appointed and a great outdoor patio with good shading if wanted. Our lattes were super yummy, we had seconds :-). No latte art for us :-( I had the Detour Hash which was very tasty. I had asked for a soft poached egg and when I mentioned that it was not what I was served I was promptly offered another egg. My partner had the bagel(Detour made) and lox with greens. Nice presentation and delicious. Thanks for giving us a lovely way to start our Sunday. Nicely done!

Top café in Hamilton. My friend ordered a flat white which is very rare among most cafes while I ordered a cappuccino. The latte art was amazing! Really enjoyed this creamy foamy coffee

I love Detour, but twice we have tried to have dinner there. Both times we had to leave before even ordering any food because we just SATTHERE for what felt like EONS waiting to order. One time, we were able to order drinks, and that took so long, even though we were the only table in the whole place, for the ditzy waitress to bring us our drinks that we had to just pay for the drinks and leave without even drinking the drinks. She didn’t even ask us why or never seemed interested or concerned as to what made us leave so abruptly. Another time, we waited forever to order only to be told that half the things on the menu they were«out» of. We just left because there was nothing left on the menu that we even cared to eat. Both times, we were the only people inside. Normally, I love this place for brunch and coffee, and I usually don’t mind their laidback service because during the day, it is acting as a café and it is usually super busy. Dinner service is A WHOLEOTHER world, and they should get their act together before trying this. Maybe they should go back to «reservations only» for dinner service and that way, they can be prepared and not waste hungry people’s time.
