We went to the restaurant base on our Korean friend’s recommendation. It looks like a family owned restaurant where local Korean people go, and the atmosphere is cozy. We went there on a stormy evening of a weekend, but it was very busy despite the poor driving weather. Luckily, we made a reservation early enough so didn’t need to wait. The small four plates of kimchi were delicious, which you could get as much as you want at no cost. Our favourite dishes were seafood onion cake. The service is a bit slow but food came out quickly. I’d definitely go back to try other dishes.

B Bim Baab is located in the middle of nowhere. Or well, the industrial south side of Edmonton, where nothing is really located. That being said though, a bonus is that there is a huge amplitude of parking nearby. They have their own little area in front of their restaurant, and then additional parking at the adjacent lot(outside of business hours, it’s relatively empty). We came at around 6 ish, after work, and I was surprised to see that there were quite a few of cars outside already. We walked in and the restaurant was relatively full. The menu is quite extensive, with your classic dishes, so we ordered a few that Jessy was more familiar with, and away we went. We were given your standard banchan, which comprised of seaweed salad, kimchi, and bean sprouts. Nothing too spectacular. I can, however, make the comment that their seaweed salad was actually quite light and refreshing and a good way to start off my meal. The first thing we got was their Dak Kang Jung(#46). This is described as battered and deep fried chicken breast balls. These were actually very good. I would have to say that I enjoyed these more than the ‘famous’ chicken balls at Lee House. The sauce was very nice and light, and the chicken was very tender and moist to every bite. The chicken itself wasn’t the perfect ball form, if you’re used to the ones from Lee House, but I think this led for an more enjoyable texture and kept things from being too dry. Definitely recommend this dish! The next dish we got was the Soft Tofu Soup(#17). This came out nice and hot with a very generous portion of tofu. This was pretty mild, and enjoyable to eat with rice. Definitely a comfort food. It can be a little bit on the bland side, but I can imagine eating this on a nice cold day. If you don’t like the taste of tofu, or you want something more adventurous, this one can be a bit on the boring side. The next thing we got was the Gam Ja Tang(#29). This is a pork bone soup with potatoes and vegetables. As I mentioned before, I’m not sure on soup, because I feel it’s always 70% broth, 30% actual food. I was quite pleasantly surprised with this one! It came out with a very generous amount of meat and potatoes. The broth was flavourful, and the meat was very tender. Definitely not a bad dish to get! Lastly, we got the Cha Jiang Myun. This was thick noodles with pork, sesame seeds, green onions, topped with cucumbers and a black bean sauce. The sauce was sweet and savoury. This was definitely a tasty dish. The tastiness however, was probably due to the fact that it was incredibly greasy and oily. My mouth wanted me to keep eating it because it was so tasty, but with every bite, I could feel the oil coat the inside of my mouth and stomach. Definitely a double-edged sword. I’d definitely recommend getting this dish. It’s really tasty, but maybe only get it occasionally! Because it’s definitely heavy on carbs and calories. I really enjoyed B Bim Baab! I’ve been here once or twice before a few years ago, and had their signature dishes, but it’s been so long that I need to go back and have some more of their namesake dishes! To be honest, I prefer B Bim Baab slightly over Lee house. I think the quality of food is a bit better and the portions are a bit better! That being said though, I’m not sure if that’s enough to make me want to drive all the way to the south side/industrial region!

Glorious Korean food. I had the pleasant opportunity of eating at a big group dinner here! For this dinner dishes were coming out in quick and delicious fashion. Everything was equisite very flavorful and amazing! Starting off their banchan was light refreshing and I always believe a fantastic way to get your stomach going before diving into the main courses. The Japchae was just as I really enjoy. Slippery, sesame oiled flavour and bits of veg and meat. The Kalbi was as incredible as Kalbi should taste. Dok boki was lightly spiced and sweeter than I’ve had on the streets of Seoul but a nice chewy and rich taste. Sweet and sour pork was crispy and sweet yet chewy and perfect texture. Every dish and I can say we were served huge servings, was decadent and super duper. Service was very attentive and dishes kept coming out fast. Definitely a great meal that I will remember not just for the fact that we were probably 40 people but that we had the celebration of two families to enjoy every much all of the food! There are thousands of reasons I’d return as this truly is the real deal! Tummy was full slept very well that evening!

Just recently starting going to this place but I’m already a fan. Great service and a pleasant enough setting(even though it is hidden away in an industrial district). The food is very good and seems rather authentic. The soups come blazing hot and are very satisfying. The Bee Bim Bop’s are quite good but the Bulgogi’s are better. I’ve been happy with everything I’ve tried thus far.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to B-Bim-Baab. This trip was my third visit and it still has that Korean homey, comfort food style to it. The food is good but some dishes are definitely on the pricier side, especially if you compare to other Korean restaurants nearby. Seriously, are they all on the south side??? Bul Go Gi House, Coco Deep Fried Chicken, Don Day, Lee House, Mama Lee’s Kitchen, Wing Chicx,(technically Lee House Korean BBQ is in Chinatown). Sorry, Ginseng Restaurant and Korean BBQ House, there’s no urgency to try you out, not when it’s over $ 30 for mediocre AYCE Korean BBQ. A buddy of mine and I decided to check out B-Bim-Baab for Sunday dinner and it was reasonably packed. Located in the industrial south side, also known as in the middle of butt eff nowhere, there’s really no reason to be in this area unless your coming here for some good eats. I guess work might also be a legitimate reason. Maybe. — Banchan — two banchan side dishes of kim chi and bean sprouts. Nothing to write home about. We were offered refills so we did ask for another bean sprout. — Raw salmon b-bim-baab($ 16.99) — salmon with fresh vegetables on steamed rice. Topped with sesame seed oil and served with homemade sweet and sour hot sauce. I wanted to get a dolsot(stone) b-bim-baap but I mis-read and assumed they all were like that. Not the raw salmon one. It was tasty but the dolsot gives the rich that extra crunchy, crispy texture to the rice that I enjoy more. As well, it’s pretty pricey at $ 17.00. For that price, there should be waaaaaaay more salmon. I’d stick with the normal ones next time. — Oh sam bokum($ 22.00) — spicy stir fried squid and pork with vegetables and roasted, crushed peanuts. Again, overpriced at $ 22.00(most of the other stir fried meat platters were in the $ 13 – 20 range). The oh sam bokum lived up to its name — spicy, good amount of squid and an addictive sauce. It also comes with a bowl of rice. I’d order it again if it weren’t so pricey. — Cha jiang myun($ 12.50) — thick noodles with pork and vegetables in Korean style black bean sauce. Topped with shredded cucumber, green onion and sesame seed. I love trying out new dishes and this was the first time that I’ve had cha jiang myun. The sauce was sweet(not salty Chinese black bean sauce style, but interestingly enough, it’s origins are from China) and the noodles had the perfect chew to it. The sweetness comes from the paste, which is made from roasted soybeans and caramel. It was devoured quickly between the two of us. B-Bim-Baab is still a solid choice for Korean food in my books. Prices are more expensive than the norm, but if you pick the right dishes, it’s really not that much more. The waitresses are friendly and you’ll feel right at home.

So the last time I went they gave me plain tofu soup even though I thought I had ordered seafood tofu soup, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and didn’t let this affect my rating. However, when I returned again last night, they had given me extra spicy soup instead of mild, and didn’t even offer to switch it for me. This is the second time it’s happened so I don’t think I can give them the benefit of the doubt not to screw up orders any more. Service is pretty horrible, too many servers to one table makes it easy to screw up. They don’t like to fix a messed up order either. This time I ordered a fried vegetable dumpling appetizer which was sadly, not tasty at all. I also tried the chilled buckwheat noodle dish which seemed more like skinny sweet potato noodles than buckwheat noodles(they’re nothing like the Japanese buckwheat noodles). I found it wayyyyy too chewy even though the flavour was good. Also there was only one slice of meat which was disappointing. I had high hopes for this restaurant since my first experience was so great, but I guess that’s why you have to visit more than once to get closer to the truth.

I love coming here for my lunch breaks and having the Buffett. It’s a quick and delicious hot lunch and the service is very friendly. I enjoyed the curry potatoe soup and a ton of entrees. Great flavor, a hidden gem!

After a good hour of deep tissue massage, I figured it wouldn’t be too bad to pamper ourselves more with some good Korean food. Off I went Unilocal-searching around that industrial area in hope of a Korean restaurant. B-Bim-Baab Korean restaurant. The name itself is one of my favourite food. I guess«why not?!». If it sounds good, it must taste good. We ordered the DakDoriTang(Korean Spicy Chicken Stew) which instantly became our favourite with our first bites. It was flavourful and beautifully done. This dish is to die for. I think it would be wise to say, once u tried it u never go back. It would also be wise to learn to cook this dish otherwise one would be so broke by the delight with this dish. Whereas the other dish: the Bul Go Gi Jungol(Beef, Mushrooms, PotatoNoodles, Tofu) was a disappointment for a start. The broth was the kind of sweetness that I didn’t quite expect or even welcome. So I got our waitress to have the dish taken back to the chef to add some spiciness to it. It turned out amazing but otherwise I wouldn’t have seconds. Service was very scarce. The only service u’ll notice is your food&drink orders and ur bill with a group of staffs bidding you a friendly goodbye. It was a nice touch but they definitely need to polish up their level of service from start to finish. At the moment, it’s like having two burger buns and some lettuce and tomatoes in the middle with no patty(aka service). I give it a 4-star for food-sake. :)

For my wife and I, 2013 was the year of discovering Korean food and this was probably the most memorable of our outings! The location is definitely a limiting factor as it is out of the way, but definitely worth the trouble. We tried the namesake Bibimbap and King’s Bul Galbee, the BBQ short ribs. Looking forward to future visits to try more!

Great food and service! Very impressed with this place. I got take out bulgogi beef and it was delicious. A bit pricey but the dish was good for two meals. Will most definitely go back again — I’m very happy it’s close to my work!

Ate here a couple years ago and food was very good. I came back and food seemed to take a turn for the worse. I did get a hair in one of my dishes and they just took away the dish, inspected the hair and replaced my dish with no apology. My appetite wasnt quite the same. I went back one for lunch buffet and I found the quality of that went down as well even though they keep raising the price on Friday lunch buffets to 15.99. You have to go further North to places like Bul Go GI House for excellent Korean. Prices here are too expensive for the quality that they offer. I wont be back.

This is one of my favorite Korean restaurant to eat at. The servers are unbelievably fast and really considerate of any concerns we had. Big smiles and quick responses were are helpful. This restaurant is hidden in an industrial area, but it’s really worth going in. Apparently it’s been around for 30 years and I’ve only discovered it the past year. We ordered the Goon Mandu, which is 6 pieces of deep fried pork and vegetable wontons. It was a little greasy but we managed to devoured it down pretty fast. I like my food really hot so we ordered the b bim baab stone bowl. I love the crunchy hard rice that forms on the bottom of the bowl. This rice bowl is super delicious. You’re also welcome to add some hot sauce into the rice(kochujang). They had a large selection of soup, but we didn’t want to eat a big thing of soup, so we ordered the Beef Sun Tofu Jikae, which is the beef and vegetables in soft tofu soup was mildly spiced. It was lightly seasoned, healthy and it definately warmed us up from the cold weather outside. We ordered Bul Galbee– marinated and barbecued short bone beef ribs. This is one of my favorite Korean dish. The meat was a little tough but overall it was well marinated and good tasting. Usually Korean food is really spicy, but I didn’t even find the kim chee to be spicy at all. Makes me wonder if they had soften on the spice in order to tailor to the Western people?!

It’s easy to miss this gem as you drive by the industrial area. But make no mistake, this place is worth discovering. The décor is a bit confusing as the chairs are a bit outdated but the wooden railings and accents give you a comforting feeling of eating somewhere legitimately exotic. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly as they constantly refilled our meals and drinks. The beef spare ribs were typically on the tough side as expected from a Korean kitchen but the marinade used was the right balance of salty and«I want to lick my fingers». The Kim Chee definitely was a highlight as it was pickled quite well with a good spice kick. My most memorable meal was the raw salmon b-bim-baab salad. It was a delicious dish consisting of crunchy vegetables, steamed rice, fresh salmon sashimi in a delectable sweet sauce. I honestly believe this dish is fresh and exciting and worth checking out. If you’re a chirashi fan, this will be heaven for you. Another interesting dish was the seafood pancake. On it’s own, it’s kind of bland but dip it in the accompanying soy sauce dish and you’ll appreciate it a little better. I didn’t taste any seafood which was a little disappointing. Feeling adventurous? Then I would definitely recommend coming here. If not, come here anyways and just order the safe beef b-bim-baab with bulgogi because that should appeal to the more cautious crowds.

Stopped in at about 3pm, which is kind of a funny mid-afternoon time to eat so the place was empty. The rice cake texture was lovely and soft but I found the sauce it was in a bit too sweet. The waitress was bring some chili sauce to spice it up which improved it quite a bit. The stand out dish was, however, the marinated barbecued short ribs. Just amazing; some of the most tender juicy meat I have eaten; to call them ‘ribs’ is an injustice, as the majority of the meat is basically tender steak. I will be going again to have some more of those ribs, and to try some other dishes, but mostly just for the ribs…

Why are all these great restaurants stuck in the middle of nowhere? This one is actually near our BMW mechanic, which made for very convenient dinner once we had to pick up our car. Stuck in the industrial south side, it may be easy to miss but DON’T! And don’t be fooled by the outside, the interior is actually well decorated and quite lovely. For those who want a friendly introduction to Korean food — though I’ve had plenty of experience before — I think B-Bim-Baab is a great place to start. My first visit here, I tried their namesake(visit their website to have a thorough explanation on what this is), and the waitress offered to spice and mix the clay pot bowl for us table-side. So, we, uh, let her. :-) Excellent rice bowl that crisps up in the heated clay pot, and I’m Asian so I absolutely love eating bulgogi meat, veggies, mixed in with a fried egg and runny egg yolk. Yummmm! That was specifically the Beef Dol-sot Bi-bim-baab. The next time I went, I decided on getting their King’s Gal Bee. In short: gal bee on steroids. Normally, grilled korean short ribs are thinly sliced long slabs of short rib. Here, when they say short rib, they actually mean the actual blob, like you would see in traditionally braised short ribs. While I absolutely adore the traditional gal bee short rib, when you have several healthy, meaty slabs marinated in the same sauce, it’s just divine.
