Went here one day for lunch with my brother. He got the chicken and waffles and I ordered the lunch special. Décor wise, this place is set up like a fast food joint and probably needs some new furniture. Both my brother’s seat and mine were held together with black tape. Food wise, the waffle was pretty good — they used real butter, which was nice, and it was fluffy. My brother said it was one of the better waffles he has had in the city. Chicken was pretty standard — better than Mary brown’s but not as tasty as KFC. The chicken itself was tender and moist but they don’t use any seasoning so without the sauce it’s kind of bland. The chicken also isn’t super greasy like other chicken places. Overall, it was worth the try and I’d eat here again but I can’t see myself craving the chicken here.

Now that’s some good fried chicken. I know it sounds stupid when describing deep fried foods but the chicken tasted… healthy? Maybe healthier is the right word. Unlike other fried chicken such as KFC and Mary Browns, Coco’s batter doesn’t come out oily at all. The serving size was excellent. The pieces were quite large. I had a 3 pc. Meal with rice. The chicken was a thigh, whole wing, and a drumstick. I had two regular and one Sweet and Hot. A comment about the sauce: it was not the flavour my mind was expecting but one my mouth was pleased with. It is familiar yet foreign all in the same bite. Although the restaurant looked rundown(tape across most of the chair cushions, cracked linoleum, etc.) the food outweighed any other issue. Overall, go and enjoy.

My cousin and I stopped in after Christmas shopping. I had read the reviews on Unilocal and we love trying new places. First impression was wow they need to invest in a mop & some new chairs(most repaired with tape), but we’ve been in plenty of places that don’t look great but are. After the clerk stopped stuffing her face, she just stood at the till and stared at us, no greeting, nothing just a stare. We finally decided to share chicken & waffles and an order of onion rings. The wait wasn’t long and the open kitchen was nice. Food smelled good but the rings cost $ 4 for 6… basic rings that you can get at Dairy Queen. First taste… very crispy & moist but absolutely no flavour, none! Go for a second bite still no flavour… it was like they completely forgot the spices! I wanted some salt & the only thing I put salt on is tomatoes! The waffle(made with real butter?!) was ok, very eggy & left a funny after taste and what does butter have to do with waffles? Never used it when making waffles at home. Overall I would go to KFC any day! At least they have flavour, maybe it’s better with the sauce? But we are not willing to go back and try. So much hype… so much disappointment

My friend and I came here for a quick bite to eat one night. I’d heard good things about Coco Deep Fried Chicken and I gotta say I was impressed. I like fried chicken, but it’s not something I have very often mainly because I haven’t found a good place to get fried chicken in Edmonton. KFC(of the Kentucky variety) fried chicken is greasy and full of msg, which isn’t good. It always makes me sick so I don’t eat there anymore. And there might few dine in restaurants where you can get fried chicken, but I didn’t think there was a quick, grab and go place in Edmonton for delicious fried chicken. I was wrong. Funny enough people call the fried chicken here KFC, but it stands for Korean Fried Chicken. They have a batter deep fried chicken, but then they also have a sweet and spicy fried chicken. I went for the basic battered fried chicken to see how it was. The two piece came with fries or rice for $ 7.50. The chicken pieces, a breast and a thigh, were both good sized pieces of chicken. The batter was crispy and full of flavour, and not greasy. The fries were crispy and delicious. They have pop and juice as well as some bottles of beer to drink. I was impressed with the service(quick and friendly) and the food. Next time I’m going to try the spicy chicken, but if you want a good deep fried chicken this seems to be the place to check out.

The fries are okay the salad good the waffles okay. …but the chicken is awesome, the best fried chicken in the city. Crunchy on the outside most on the inside. Better tasting than KFC but not as pricey as Mary Browns. I would agree that it is more of a take out place than a sit down for a nice dinner sort of place however.

2 words. Fried. Chicken. They are synonymous like PB and Jelly. Everyone I’ve ever gone with absolutely LOVED it. I like the original better. Not super amazing outstanding, but tastes like mom’s.

All I can say is yum!!! This is really like fried chicken in Korea. I personally like the regular, not the one in the sauce. I can’t believe I drove past here so many times and never actually ordered it! Also make sure if you want fries, do a double check. I ordered fries but I think their heard rice :)

There isn’t anywhere in Edmonton with better friend chicken. The sweet and spicy sauce is phenomenal! It’s not southern fried chicken so don’t go expecting it. The breading is crunchy and delicious and the generous sized chicken is moist and tender without being greasy. You have to try the onion rings as well!

Exactly the kind of fried chicken I’ve been looking for! The area and the shop itself look a little worn down and maybe not as appealing, but the chicken is miles better than from a nice looking KFC restaurant, in my opinion. Service is relatively quick, out of the two times we’ve shown up and not called ahead the wait time was only around 10 minutes at most. They do have some busy times where the wait may be a bit longer, so I would consider calling ahead if you need your order asap.

So I guess there’s only a limited amount of places in Edmonton to get some really good Korean Fried Chicken, and from what I’ve heard, Coco’s Deep Fried Chicken is one of them. They’re located south of Edmonton, right off Parson’s road at around 34th avenue. They specialize mostly in fried chicken, from pieces, to strips, including chicken and waffles. To be honest, I haven’t had that much experience with KFC, having only tried it at It’ Dog a few months previous. I still need to go check out Wing Chicx eventually, but for right now I can at least compare those two places. Coco’s is not much to look at on the outside. It’s located in a little strip area. Also, from the looks of it, they mostly cater to take-out on the inside. There are a few tables inside where you can sit and eat. When I came in, there was nobody there and they had some Korean Music videos playing on the TV. On this occasion, I only tried the half and half chicken and split it with my cousin. They do have a few other side options such as fries, onion rings, sweet potatoes and random salads but I opted to have what they specialize in, because we weren’t super hungry. The prices here are pretty average. I find that fried chicken in general is pretty expensive. Regular Kentucky Fried Chicken is pretty expensive, and Mary Brown’s chicken is even more expensive than that. Korean Fried Chicken is probably the best value in terms of fried chicken, and they come with good sauces as well! I ordered the 10-pieces half and half chicken to get the best of both worlds. When I see 10 pieces, or like 2 pieces for their lunch items, I think that it’s going to be pretty small portions. In my mind, I just think like wings or something, like 2 pieces of chicken won’t satisfy me. You actually get huge pieces of chicken and 10 pieces was more than enough for two people(we had to pack it up and bring it home!). The plain crispy deep fried chicken was pretty good. It came out very hot and a bit hard to handle so we had to let it cool down a bit. There were some pretty meaty pieces of chicken, with really crispy exterior. The first few bites are always the best, where you get a lot of the crispy skin. It was really light and not too salty. On the thicker pieces of chicken, the inside got a little bit bland…

Holy crap. I know that’s a strange way to start a review. But it’s very fitting. This place is incredibly close to my house. and I drove past it many many times since it opened. It’s always been on my radar. So, in we go last night. With pictures from Unilocal in my mind… leading me in. As soon as you get close to the door, you can smell the delicious chicken and sweet & hot sauce… and once you open that door, you can practically taste it. Now… a quirky thing about me is that I’m not a big fan of messy stuff, and aside from chicken wings, I definitely don’t like eating meat off a bone(great BBQ is an exception to that as well). So I went with the 3 piece chicken strips and fries. The man at the counter was incredibly friendly and didn’t rush us when we said it was our first visit, he was patient while we made up our minds. The wait was reasonable and I drove home faster than ever because the smell was filling up my car. Once I got home and opened the box… I was blown away. It was PACKED full of chicken. 3 pieces was actually 5HUGE strips, dripping in the delicious sweet & hot sauce. The chicken was perfectly crispy, even after sitting in the sauce for 10 minutes. YUM! I will be back.

The chicken here KICKSASS. Seriously. I’ve never had such good fried chicken in my life. Crispy, thick and crumbly coating outside juicy and not at all dry chicken, absolutely stunning. You can choose from saucy or dry and they’re both totally awesome, I recommend ordering half and half. Prices are reasonable and food quality is outstanding. Location is easy to find and convenient if you’re on the south side. Why the minus one star? I called ahead to place a pickup order and still had to wait 15 minutes for it. The staff apologized and chalked it up to being busy(indeed, there was about 6 other groups of people waiting for their chicken). I didn’t mind so much, but listening to the grumbling of others as they complained about their wait(I don’t think they called in like I did, I think they just walked in to order) it sounded like some others were waiting much much longer. I will definitely go back, maybe I’ll go at an off-peak hour and hopefully avoid a wait.

Love this place. Had the half-and-half fried /sweet & spicy chicken. The sauce on the sweet and spicy is pretty good, but not quite as good as other Korean chicken joints. That said, the chicken makes up for it! Their breading and seasonings are perfect, and they cook it to the point of perfection — not overdone, not undercooked… just, well, perfect.

Sometimes you just get a craving for KFC. If you don’t know what KFC is, you’ve been missing out on the good things in life. Korean fried chicken(aka. KFC) is Coco’s Deep Fried Chicken specialty. It’s their bread and butter, so don’t come here expecting to see other Korean dishes on the menu. Although, technically they have homemade chicken and waffles so that could be considered something different. It was my first time here so I thought it would be the perfect time to bring along a good buddy of mine who has never had Korean food before, EVER, WHAT! I’ve read some reviews on Coco’s and I have no idea what some people were complaining about — sure, it’s not the biggest restaurant out there but there is more than enough room to sit down and eat if you want to do that over take out. There must be about 8 – 9 tables total. Bonus that there were a lot of Koreans coming in to eat. We decided to share a few things: — Set 1($ 29.99) — you get 10 pieces of KFC(half and half) plus your choice of any two drinks. We went with Cass Fresh(a Korean light beer) and Sapporo. I don’t usually order drinks with food but beer and KFC seem to be a match made in heaven. As for the fried chicken, it was spot on — crunchy, juicy and best of all, grease-less. It’s tough to say which was better, the crispy deep fried chicken versus the sweet and hot sauce chicken, both were awesome! However, if I had a gun to my head, sweet and hot sauce chicken would win although it’s in no way«hot». But who cares when it is seriously that tasty! — Sweet potato fries($ 5.99 for a large) — nice side dish to have with the chicken. The sweet potato fries were light, crispy but could have used some sort of sauce to go with them. Anyways, great spot to get yur KFC’ness in. Check them out especially if you’re doing some shopping at nearby South Edmonton Commons. Seriously, how is a Puma outlet there and no one told me?

Really great fried chicken. I don’t know if it’s the best fried chicken in the city, but it’s really really good. The prices are reasonable. Roughly $ 2.50 per piece of chicken, the place is clean, and I liked the quick service. This restaurant is Fast Food Style. There are no servers. They sell beer by the bottle, and pop out of the cooler. No draft lines. I tried the chicken and waffles today, and I can say that it was definitely one of the best in the city. Each batch of waffles and chicken are made when you order. No old chicken heating under lamps.($ 10 = 2 pieces of chicken and 2 big waffles) I don’t like sauce on my chicken, but my friend got the 5 piece chicken($ 14) and liked the sweet and spicy sauced ones better. «It tastes like sweet and sour with Siracha» Worth going to if you like Korean fried chicken. Pros: Great Chicken cooked to order One of the best in the city Good prices Cons: Not much atmosphere Strange aftertaste either from the chicken spices or the waffles

I’ve wanted to come to cocos for some time after reading favourable reviews here on Unilocal. I went in with high expectations because I’ve had some really good Korean fried chicken in the past. I have to say that cocos exceeded my expectations. The interior of cocos is much bigger than I imagined and very clean so I think I will eat in next time. This time we got 2 orders of half dry chicken and half sauced chicken with sides of onion rings and fries. The pieces of chicken were huge and very flavourful. My favourite was the sauced chicken. The sauce was nice and smokey but probably could have been a little spicier. The dry was also really good, they marinate their chicken and it shows by how juicy it is. Both types of chicken were still really crispy when I got them home. When I go back I will still get the mixer pack again. The fries and onion rings were also both good. Bonus points to them for throwing in some free pops and salads, probably because of the size if my order. Can’t wait to go back again.

Delicious deep fried chicken! Coco Deep Fried Chicken seems to be more focused on take-out rather than sit down. There are about 6 tables in the space that can seat 4 – 6 people each. It seemed that most customers were either calling in their order and picking up, ordering take-out(like us), or sitting down for a quick meal A sign near their cashier till displayed the«Coco Chicken Promise» to their customers. It was certainly nice to know their mission statement. Originally, we wanted to order the«Half and Half Chicken — 10 piece»($ 22.99) made of 5 pieces of regular crispy chicken and 5 pieces of sweet and hot sauce. Unfortunately, as it was near closing, they had run out of the sweet and hot sauce. The owner told us that they have to make the sauce from scratch each day. In the end, we decided to get the Family Crispy Chicken 10 piece pack($ 21.99). While waiting for our order to finish frying, I took some pictures of the open kitchen. It was good to see that each piece of chicken was not only fried individually but also checked with a meat thermometer. The deep fried chicken at Coco is certainly amazing! It is likely one of the best Korean fried chickens that I have tried in Edmonton so far. The above picture was one of the pieces of chicken from our family pack. It was mostly meat with only 1 bone! The owner told us that all the meat is marinated for a full day before it is fried. The long marinade definitely was evident in the taste of their chicken! Not only was the skin super crispy and thick, the meat of the chicken was very flavourful and moist. Without even realizing it, my husband and I polished off 4 pieces each in record time! I would definitely go back to Coco Deep Fried Chicken the next time I have a hankering for some fried chicken!

Every once in a while, you get a craving for good crispy fried chicken and the only option is to find some. That lead us to try Coco’s today. We ordered the crispy fried chicken and a side of their Korean sweet and hot sauce, to go. It was ready with in about 10 minutes. There was a bit of back and forth to properly communicate the order that was originally placed over the phone. A small confusion but they sorted it out with no hassle. The man at the counter was very pleasant to deal with. For a small hole in the wall restaurant, they had nice tables and chairs along with a few dividers hanging from the ceiling that make for a atmosphere. The area looked clean and well kept, and you can see through into the kitchen area as the food is being prepped. The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy. The crispy coating, extra crispy. The sauce was sweet and thick with a touch of heat and a perfect compliment to dip the chicken into. The side of Kimchi was well made and I suspect house made, but I can’t be certain of that. This is definitely a place I would recommend and going forward, this will be our go to place for fried chicken in Edmonton!

Believe the hype. This is the best fried chicken in town but I think in western canada too! Its a small family owned restaurant in a commercial area of edmonton. Hidden in a corner beside tge tin palace. Once inside the cooks start cooking the chicken. It has maybe seating for 25 people and the place is full of koreans enjoying this fantastic chicken. Not knowing how to order I ordered a 5 piece meal with fries and rice. I asked for half and half. We got two korean fried chicken with sauce and three pieces of fried chicken. The outer skin was super crispy and surprisingly light. No flavours of grease or heaviness noted. But the chicken smothered in a flavourful sauce was a sweet surprise. Sweet and tangy it was unique and addictive. I needed to order more sauce for the other pieces bc it was insanely better tasting with it. Dont bother with the regular chicken. Its good but the korean chicken was amazing. I normally can barely finish 2 pieces of kfc. But here I gobbled down 3 so quick I barely breathed while chewing. I wanted to eat more but I just couldnt. So yummy. Highly recommended for the best fried chicken in edmonton!!! Stop by and see for yourself. The added bonus is that you are supporting local small businesses in our city too!

Who doesn’t like good fried chicken? Who doesn’t like Korean fried chicken? If you’ve never had this particular KFC, I highly recommend you get yourself down south side Edmonton and check out Coco Deep Fried Chicken. They only sell chicken. Fair warning, because I had coerced Joe into coming with me and when he asked if there was Korean style soups, I replied with a solid yes without even really thinking. Oops. Opened late last year, I was a little late in trying. Oh Southside… why are you so far. The place isn’t the hardest place to find but if you’re unfamiliar with the southside, it really helps to have a look at a map beforehand. Travelling south on 99 St which turns into Parsons Road, it’s on the southwest block at the intersection of 34 Ave. It’s located in a small strip mall and with plenty of parking. Chiiiiiicken! Everything chicken. From pieces, to strips, to even chicken and waffles(mmm!). There’s also to go boxes everywhere, which seems to be their main stay of business but tables are available for you to dine in. Disappointed that there was no other Korean fare(I’m so sorry Joe), we ordered the family pack, half and half chicken. 5 pieces of each of their chicken pieces, one that was without sauce and the other with. Oh my goodness, drool. Crispiest, and juiciest deep fried chicken I’ve had yet. Fried piece by piece too. The pieces without sauce were a tad underseasoned, I really stress a tad, as Joe pointed it out in comparison to your standard Kentucky Fried Chicken. The sauce is your traditional Korean sauce, on the sweeter side. I expected more heat but the most I got was a little kick in the after taste. The combo also comes with a can of Coke and a side of pickled Daikon, crunchy and a good break in between chicken pieces. This was my first time at Coco Deep Fried Chicken and I have only been to Wing Chicx once, many moons ago. From what I remember, the sauce at Wing Chicx was spicier but I don’t recall having the same crispy, moist sensation as I did with Coco’s. I will eventually order both at the same time to compare. I absolutely loved the chicken at Coco Deep Fried Chicken though, and I will definitely be making more trips to south side Edmonton just for it! Never again will the word«KFC» actually mean Kentucky Fried Chicken. Give it a try!
