I think this place has moved three times since 2009 so be careful of the reviews you read on here. They are currently at 97th street and have been for two years now. I’ve only ever been to this place to watch live noise/experimental acts and it’s been a good place to watch these artists perform. It’s a small place but I don’t remember crowds ever getting over 30 people(most of them were playing in the noise acts too… ha ha). The people that run this place have to be the most accomidating people ever for new artists too and they’re nice as well. Good booze and good food too. The paintings on the walls are done by local people and are always changing too. If you like the interesting and different go here for a good show!

As far as live music venues go, this is the worst one in Edmonton. It’s a chill space with great local art on the walls and nice enough staff, but their equipment and acoustics make each band that plays there sound like the worst band you’ve ever heard in your life. Musicians: do yourself a favour and don’t put a horrible show in your tour(because I guarantee that if you play here, people will say wow, that sounded awful, did they seem… off tonight to you?) I’ve heard that said at a handful of musical events there now by fellow audience members. I hear it’s a nice place for stand up comedy etc, but if sound is of any importance to you – DONOT play here.

A pretty interesting place! I’ve been here once, for a Word with Friends night. For a bar, it has a decent sized stage for live shows and acts. The bar at the back of the room carries some predictable beers including Amber’s Zombie Apocalypse. Alcohol is cheap, service is decent and there’s a small food menu. The food is okay, but again something that’s acceptable within the confines of this place. I like the ambience of this place. It’s dark with most of the lights being spotlights on the wall. The wall is adorned with some interesting(read funky) art work and it all fits well with the theme of this place. The washroom is not as bad as I expected! There aren’t any real downsides for me except that it’s the kind of place that you can’t just show up to for a drink. It gets pretty noisy in there and if you’re not coming for the particular performance, it can get a bit loud. I don’t mind that, but I would have a look at their calendar online before planning to go down.

If you like avant garde music and art this certainly is a place to check out. New location on 97 street. Definitely popular with the younger crowd. I was there on a Saturday night and they had a DJ playing electronic industrial music with a photographic industrial art show on the walls. The place was packed, mostly young, but a few older folks just to round things out. Long narrow place with the bar way in the back. Kind of industrial feel with the chairs and walls. The stage is at the front. Can hold max of 50 patrons. During the daytime however, the place can look a little spartan with only small round tables and high backed stools, but they offer free WIFI so you can chill here if need be plus they did an excellent job on the washroom renovations so it is safe for the«suits» working across the street! Staff are very friendly. The place rocks at night, however as they have a dedicated clientele. They host all kinds of alternative music that is hard to find. Great to revitalize this area. It is located a couple of doors down from Brittany’s Lounge which is also good and more of an upscale urban lounge… to get your hearing back!

Not a bad little spot! Went here — to the new Bohemia(the other reviews are for the old one) — just last night for #yegwords5 and it was good. Friendly service, decently stocked bar, and apparently the food was great. Not the place if you’re trying to impress someone, but definitely the right type of place to relax with friends over a drink. I’ll be back at some other point to check it out more fully!

This is actually a pretty cool place. Bohemia’s open late and has a liquor license, which is a bonus. I’m always looking for new places to take my laptop and do writing work out of the house, so if I can sip a beer at the same time all the better. I usually bring my earphones though, ’cause the music here can get a little loud for my liking. They stay open ’til 1 a.m. every night but Sunday, when they close at midnight. At Bohemia, you can surf the ‘Net, but some people come for the music, the vibe, or enjoy the laid-back space and chill with their friends. There’s an understated coolness to the place. It doesn’t try too hard to be liked. It can take you or leave you. Easy come, easy go. The crowd’s also really eclectic, so if you are eccentric or have an alternative lifestyle, as long as it involves respect for others, you are welcome in this space. Grab a seat, or a comfy couch or chair, if one’s available. It’s oh-so-boho.

Bohemia is the perfect word to describe this place! This has been a sanctuary to me when I was without internet or my computer decided not to work. If you’re looking for a laid-back place to surf the web or play some games, you’ve found it. I would describe it as my second living room — only way bigger with a lot of computers. It is licensed, so no minors allowed. There are munchies available for purchase as well as non-alcoholic beverages. The walls are adorned with some seriously interesting paintings and such from local artists. I’m told that Bohemia doesn’t charge them a hanging fee because they believe in giving people the opportunity to get their work out there. So, if you really like a piece, you can inquire about purchasing it. The music is loud(something I enjoy considering I live in a quiet apartment) and of varying styles — mostly indie stuff. It totally depends on the staff. I particularly enjoy the trance/ambient type of stuff. The staff is laid back and generally are people who have enjoyed hanging out there as patrons and decided to apply to work there. It’s certainly a comfortable, casual, creative atmosphere. It’s the type of place you just sort of sink into. I was hooked from day one. An interesting note is that they do offer theme nights from time to time. Be sure to check with them to get the details. I know for Halloween they’ve got a costume night planned. It’s a good place to meet people, too. This may seem ironic for an internet café where people are wrapped up in their own computer experiences. I once saw a girl ask a guy out. You do get to select your own computer — which can certainly work to your advantage. Even if you’re not looking for a date, everyone there is really helpful if you have any questions. I recall a guy working on a resume and like three or four people jumped in to help.
