Overall, not much has changed about this pub since it was a Hudson’s a couple years ago(and oh do I miss that Hudsons… we went there for at least 3 New Years’). Anyways, the décor is similar and so is the menu. It’s never very busy(when I’m there… it’s probably a different story on a Friday night) and I’ve never had an issue with the staff. But it’s actually quite good! I’ve had their chicken burger a few times now and it really doesn’t disappoint. Their prices are average, and they have a decent beer selection. Not someplace I would write home about or anything, but this place is definitely on my radar when I’m in the area and trying to come up with someplace to eat! (I actually like the food better than the Hudsons that was here prior, so 4 stars it is!)

This place was surprisingly more Irish in terms of décor and music than I expected. However, the food is basic pub food so if you were looking for something authentic there, you’re out of luck. There was nothing that stood out as being bad about this place — the ambience was good, service was reasonably quick, food tasted fine — but nothing stood out as being particularly good either. Just another basic bar, of the same ilk as the Hudsons it replaced.

A great little neighborhood pub! It still has the flair over the bar from when it was called The Frog and Nightgown but that adds quite a bit to the charm of this now Irish pub. The food tends to be quite good and steps outside the realm of your typical pub-grub by offering the usuals along with some authentic tasting sheppard’s pie and bangers. The only reason I gave it a 3 is because it is very difficult to ever find a table in there as it is always busy but that obviously goes to show how many people like it. You can tell the locals are regulars which is always a good sign.

Good location, service, and food. Nevertheless, not many visible changes were made to the space after Hudsons’ exit. I was hoping for more personality, but Devaney’s is pretty generic in its approach. The best thing I can say about it is that it’s competent. It gets the job done, but don’t expect a highly developed culture/community to develop. You will have a few regulars that go for convenience, but like Hudsons, this is mostly going to attract a younger and more transient crowd. Just another stop on the eventual pub crawl down Whyte.
