I was really excited to try La Poutine for the first time especially since I had consulted the menu online before arrival, so when we got there I was prepped and ready to roll! I honed in on one poutine that I was sure was going to rock my ever lovin socks off — Donair Poutine. I’ve had Donair Poutine from another establishment and it was amahhhhzin, full dive into flavour country! La Poutine’s Donair Poutine was not that. I mean it wasn’t awful. It had all the necessary ingredients for a Donair Poutine. What it lacked was crispness! And heat! Like I found the fries to be a lil limp. Another must in my Donair Poutine world is gravy hot enough to get that cheese melting. That’s optimal in my books. These curds were just chillin, no ooze! Am I in the wrong? Maybe it’s me? I could tell the Donair meat was just shipped in strips and not actually cut off the beast. And I guess that’s what I should expect? Cuz they aren’t going to have a full Donair setup at a Poutine place, but then again maybe they should? It’s a delicate dance. I dunno, maybe I’ve been a lil spoiled by my other Donair Poutine experience, but to be honest Unilocal peeps, I expected more. If your establishment is named after the only dish you serve then the basics gotta be on point. Crisp fries, hot grav… I think that’s reasonable.

Excellent!!! With an extensive menu of all different variations of poutine, there’s something for everyone. The donair poutine being a personal favourite! Be prepared for limited seating(10 in total) as it is a small place.

Supreme poutine is the way to go. This is the best poutine place in Edmonton. Outdoor seating could be better. If it is a nice summer day go for it, if it is a cold winter day it is better to just grab some and go. Great Location.

As a vegetarian, I appreciate their vegetarian options. I really like the veggie garden(the fresh veggies somehow psychologically cancels out the heavy gravy and potato). It’s very generously portioned. If you like poutine, come check this out! Be warned, the vegan cheese is disgusting. It’s like… margarine. For that, I took off one star. ALWAYS order the squeaky cheese. So basically, vegans, avoid this place. Vegetarians, you’re golden!

We went here after a game event at Variant Edition because I needed good poutine.(Let’s just say Shawn had tried and experiment that involved turkey, but decided to use beef gravy, and it was NOTGOOD.) I had never been before, but the people I was with had, and I had always wanted to try. It’s a small place wth a few tables out front in warmer months, which here means any months in which you won’t freeze to the chairs. The menu has basic stuff, fancy stuff, and lots of options for customizing. You can also buys lots to make your own delicious poutine at home! That’s awesome! I got a regular sized, basic poutine with fries, curds, and regular gravy. It was just what I wanted. I would have been more adventurous, but after the failed turkey experiment, I wanted plain, basic goodness. It definitely delivered. The fries were crispy enough that the ones on the bottom didn’t end up soggy; the curds were fresh and squeaky; the gravy was hot and full of flavour. Price wise, it’s a little high, but I don’t mind paying for well cooked, delicious, and generously portioned food. It’s good that we don’t live closer, because I have a serious poutine weakness, and this place could become a vice. It’s bad enough that we make poutine at home so often. Once we have a Janice to go back and try the more involved flavours, i will update the review. I also don’t know how easy it would be to eat here in the winter. Seating inside is limited, and poutine is not one of those things you can easily eat on the go, especially all bundled up, so I don’t see us making the trip unless it’s really warm out, particularly with The Munch in tow.

I cannot say I overly enjoyed the poutine,(I tried the chili supreme) I mean it was an okay poutine. But for the price I was expecting much more. To be completely honest I would rather eat New York Fries for half the cost. Also the restaurant itself is annoying because there is next to no seating and very crowded.

I was completely underwhelmed. I was very excited to eat here and was completely disappointed when I did. The staff were rude and not welcoming and the food was subpar at best. My fries were undercooked and the gravy was tasteless. Don’t waste your time as you can get a poutine a many chain restaurants that tastes more authentic.

I ordered la poutine for the first time tonight for delivery. I was looking forward to it all day. I called in my order at 5:30pm and was told it would be 30−60min. At 7:00pm the driver still hadn’t arrived and was on the wrong end of the city. By the time the food was delivered, at 7:35, it was cold, soggy mush and they made a mistake with the order. I don’t know if la poutine is to blame or their delivery service, but I will not be a returning customer.

I took the cheeseburger, the tomatoes made the poutine taste fresh which is nice but the overall taste was a bit blend and tasteless. Coming from Montréal I tried the western gravy expecting it to be stronger than the traditional one but I could barely taste it. The place is very small and they don’t speak french. Overall a bit disappointing but I’ll come back to try another one.

My wife and I were looking for a quick snack and she had heard about la poutine. So we decided to stop in they are located in the old Garneau theatre(I worked for the construction company doing the restoration of the building a few years ago). The first thing I found difficult was parking, it is very close to the U of A and thus parking is at a premium. After circling the block twice I did find a spot in the back marked for the high level dinner. We made a quick entrance into the shop so we wouldn’t get a parking ticket. The first thing we noticed was how small the dinning area is. It probably would sit 20 people tops and if full probably would not have been comfortable. So we approached the counter eyed the many different types of poutine. My wife settled quickly on the cheeseburger poutine and I was between the quebecois which was a poutine with Montréal smoked meat and the donair. We were going to order a couple drinks but the prices were rich I felt. I could see someone in the back fresh cutting potatoes. I thought I was in for a treat! Our food came pretty quick which impressed me. We went back to our car quickly to avoid the parking police and to dig in. It was hot and fresh. We both enjoyed our first couple bites. After a couple initial reverse blows I asked her what she thought. My wife’s opinion of her cheeseburger poutine was, it needed more pickles and it had no flavor. We discussed what makes a cheeseburger good. We both agreed it needed something more. For the most part it was ground beef with some tomatoes onions pickles then the classic poutine ingredients of fries gravy and cheese curd. The ground beef appeared to be just browned with no spices or added flavoring and the gravy was bland. The cheese curds were authentic and we appreciated not having regular grated cheese. My quebecois was about the same. The Montréal smoked meat was grocery store deli quality at best, devoid of the pepperyness true Montréal smoked meat should have. I also found the gravy to be very bland and lack any substance or flavor. Overall I think if you pass this one up you will be saving yourself some disappointment and about 20 dollars. I think the lack of flavor made la poutine really miss the mark. They have great potential with the fresh offerings but they need to step up their quality.

Nothing bad to say, even the parking situation can be overlooked since everything is so good. We especially enjoy the specialty poutines, very creative and always something new to try.

Really enjoy the poutine here. It can sometimes take a while to prepare, which is a little annoying if you’re waiting for take-out, but the wait is worth it. Only downside — they only take debit and cash — no credit cards. I much prefer earning my points!

I first tried La Poutine a couple of years ago. The first couple of times I had it, I had the supreme and it was delicious! But then, I found a long black hair wound around a clump of fries. I was so disgusted. I brought it back and asked for my money back. Without argument, they gave me a refund. They asked me if I wanted them to make me another poutine but I refused and haven’t been back since.

Stop reading and just scroll through the photos! How can you resist the various combinations of cheese, gravy and delicious fries?! The traditional gravy seems to be the most popular(maybe because it’s vegan?) but I am a huge fan of their beef gravy. I just find that it is thicker and had more flavour. The cheese curds are super fresh and squeaky and I love the various topping options that there are. My fav is the pepperoni and mushroom or the Montréal smoked meat. I always want to try a different one but I’m terrible for sticking to what I know, ha. Fortunately,(or unfortunately) I live walking distance to this little gem and it is great to curb the poutine cravings that take control. Way to pick 1 thing to be great at and making the best poutine in Edmonton!

Best poutine in Edmonton by FAR. Yes the parking situation sucks, yes there’s only a few places to sit down inside, and YES it’s a little pricey. But the quality of the poutine here more than makes up for all of the above! They have tons of options available with different toppings you can try but you really can’t go wrong with the Traditional poutine with normal gravy. Even though it’s always a pain to find a place to park(usually have to walk 5 mins from your car) my gf and I have been back countless times because when you get a poutine craving, there’s simply no place better.

OK… Stop what you are doing and go get you some La Poutine! If you are all about atmosphere or if you’re in the wine and dine mood, skip this! It is extremely small inside with limited seating but don’t let this deter you from experiencing the best poutine in Edmonton(that I’ve tasted anyway). They have so many options, from perogy to pizza, as well as 2 choices of gravy. Don’t make the same mistake I did and get the western gravy… Get the traditional, its traditional for a very good reason! I’ve tried quite a few but the Canadian is by far my favorite. You just can NEVER go wrong with bacon! I’ve never been disappointed but I will say that the sooner you eat it the better… I’m not the biggest fan of soggy fries. The parking situation is not awesome but trust me after you polish one of these off, a walk will do you good :) La poutine is a win for me! :D

Yes, it alright. Very simple poutinery next to the garneau theatre. Lots of options menu wise including two kinds of gravy traditional and the thicker one. It’s very small so more often than not you’ll be getting poutine to go. We had the Peroghy which consisted of sour cream, caramelized onions, piece of sausage, fries, traditional gravy and cheese curds. A large set us back 11 – 12 $ and it was shared satisfactorily by 2. It was very tasty. And I loved sitting on the outside tables. Perfect place for people watching.

It’s time to update my review — I don’t know why I was so harsh last year. I do still think that the prices are high… but the ingredients are fresh and tasty. They definitely know what they’re doing here. And there is often Groupons available for them. There is also a coupon in the SUTP book. oh but it’s delicious. I haven’t made it through the menu yet, but so far my favourites are the party and the pizza. You have a choice of traditional or beef gravy. The traditional is also vegan. I love the beef gravy personally — it’s so rich. I usually go for take out, unless it’s nice enough for them to have their tables set up outside.

Poutine galore!!! In Canada we are spoiled with pretty good poutine options compared to anywhere else. The french make the best poutines… What a fantastic idea. Crisp fries, cheese curds and thick rich gravy smothering the fries! It cant get any better. But at la poutine it does! They add different toppings to make your poutine specialized. Sour cream, cheese sauce, bacon, montreal smoked meat, sausage, chili, and even donairs meat!!! They have vegan and gluten free options as well. But personally the beef gravy is my favourite its rich and thick and has the perfect amount of saltiness to compliment the cheese curds. The price is pretty steep. A regualr is $ 8.50 and a large is $ 10.99. I find a regular is a perfect snack but if you want it as a meal or to share the large is great for that. Ideally sharing is the best option so you can try as many flavours as possible! :) My personal favourites are the perogy and the quebecois. I find the ratio of toppings, gravy with fries to be good. Sometimes theres not enough gravy so a touch more would be better. For this inconsistency I minused a star. It doesnt happen much but I have had a few poutines on the dry side. Location wise its on busy 109 Street. Theres lots of parking in the back but I find that its really hard to come by on weekends. But if you are mobile you can park on the streets and walk a few blocks with no problems. Service is quick and friendly. Seating is all on high stools with maybe 8 seats in total. SO not recommended for little kids. But in the summer they have two tables outside which are perfect for enjoying edmontons hot summers!

After driving by here a million times, I finally tried La Poutine. Let me make it short and sweet — great menu, lots of choices, delicious traditional poutine gravy, squeaky cheese curds(that’s great), BUT undercooked fries. Sorry, no matter how good the gravy and cheese curds, the fries themselves wrecked it.
