Foods are great but a bit pricy. We spent over $ 100 for 2 adults and one kid.

Went here on Monday with a friend after not having been for 5 years or so! Love love love! The young man that helped us(assuming he’s the owner/manager) was super friendly, and knowledgeable. We are both vegan so there was tons for us to choose from! She ordered the Green Curry soup and I ordered the Pad Thai with the vegan spring rolls. After our meals he asked us how everything tasted etc, then we got talking about my upcoming trip to Thailand and he had some tips on areas to visit as well! Such a warm, inviting place. I will be back sooner than later. Next time, I am having the Hot Pot!

The service is excellent, the affable gentlemen who own and operate this family business are polite and helpful. The prices are on the higher side, for an appetizer, main and mango smoothly + tip it came to around $ 45. The quality of the food is some of the best in the city. I was especially impressed with the freshness of the salad rolls. The menu is concise and to the point, it’s a Vietnamese and Thai place and that is the food they are good at.

First time eating the food here, excellent food & excellent service. Tom took care of me, much appreciated. I ordered the phở with shrimp, the salad rolls and the pad thai. Great food.

So good!!! This place was such a nice surprise. My husband heard about it through a friend and pretty much dragged me there. But, I was impressed right away when I the sign on the door said vegan options. I had vegan pad Thai which was delicious. My only wish is that there were more vegetables amongst the noodles. I’ll definitely be back to try more.

Amazing all round! You walk in to a clean and well maintained atmosphere which is totally surprising, after seeing the tiny run down strip mall, it resides in. You are immediately greeted by Tom, and who makes a point to learn your name.(while waiting for your food, he’s not bad to look at either!). The food is amazing, so delicious, and full of flavour. The chicken is moist, and juicy, and grilled to perfection. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Very friendly staff, delicious food. We thought the portions were a bit small. but happily surprised! It filled us up and we will definitely make a trip back. We had the padthai and the vermicelli bowl. Iced Vietnamese coffee and fresh lemonade!

Am I seriously the only person that hates this place? I came here after hearing everyone rave about how awesome this place was, and was horribly disappointed. I found the food overpriced for what you were getting, the service was crap, and I felt like I was getting better tasting food in Chinatown. I never spend over an hour for phở and salad rolls. One of the reasons why I enjoy phở is that it’s fast. Maybe I showed up on an off day? Either way, there are plenty of other Vietnamese restaurants to satisfy my cravings that haven’t been as disappointing as Lan’s.

They have popsicles!!! YES! I came to Lan’s the other day, when it was super hot with the intention of maybe getting a Thai Iced Tea. The owners of Lan’s also used to own T.H.I.S Place, a little coffee shop downtown, which had the best popsicles ever, and sadly has since closed. So when I walked into Lan’s to what did my wondrous eyes did a appear but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer. No scratch that. That was obviously heat stroke talking, but I did see a sign for popsicles. The delicious homemade popsicles they served at T.H.I.S Place. It’s not often I’m on the northside, but navigating that stupid traffic circle on 118(and taking the wrong exit, and having to go back and do it again) is totally worth it for Lan’s. Their food is delicious… still, but now they also have their delicious popsicles. The coconut is like a sweet, creamy, cold piece of heaven… I think angels were dancing on my tastebuds. Or maybe that’s just the heatstroke again. Either way the popsicles are so bueno. Definitely coming back to Lan’s this summer.

I’ve had Lans many many times and it’s not the best Thai that I’ve had… not in Edmonton or in Thailand. I like that this is a favourite of the surrounding schools and that the owner is so friendly and nice, but I just don’t like the taste of the food. It’s always a little too bland, or a little too spicy. There is no happy medium for me. What I really don’t like: the design of the restaurant. It’s super awkward and it makes me really uncomfortable to be inside it. I also don’t like drinking soda out of a can. I suggest that you try a few other Thai places in Edmonton to find out what you like the best!

It’s been over 5 years since I last had the chance to eat at Lan’s and after just coming back from vacation, ordering take-out is in order since the fridge is bare and going for groceries is definitely out of the question! I made the executive decision to order from Lan’s after my boyfriend suggested we order something in. I went to their website, which is laid out very well I might add, and proceeded to pop in my order.(i should add that an outside company is contracted to do the delivery) We ordered the Pad Thai with Tofu, Green Curry with Beef, Lemongrass Chicken Vermicelli & the Thai Basil & Pork Stirfy with Rice. I know from previous times that the food was good, and Tom, the owner(who also happens to be my old driving instructor — hey Tom!) is one of the nicest & most personable guys around! I digress, our food was delivered within 45 minutes, if not sooner, and even the delivery guy(who must’ve been new at this) said we chose a great place«cuz the guy at the counter(Tom) was super nice!» Needless to say, the food was excellent and we had lots of leftovers which were just as delicious the following day. So moral of the story, if you’re wondering what to eat tonight, and are thinking of ordering in, look no further, as Lan’s offers delivery and the food is hot, delicious and all you can ask for from a solid Thai establishment.

Oh Lan’s, why’d you have to pull a fast one on us and change? It’s been quite some time since my last visit to the popular Vietnamese/Thai restaurant(over a year now) but wow, how things have changed. Lan’s Asian Grill is still located in the same grungy, ghetto strip mall(which is part of their charm) but fuggetabout having real plates and cutlery to eat with. It’s changed from being a restaurant to more of a fast food/take out business. Your meal is served to you on a cafeteria tray and your cutlery is of the plastic variety. I’m all for saving money but really Lan’s? Can’t be good for the environment either. The good thing to take out of all this is that the food is still tasty. It’s just too bad the vibe/atmosphere is seriously lacking. — Thai green curry with chicken($ 12.00) with coconut rice($ 2.00 extra) –in hindsight, I chould have just stuck with jasmine rice as the green curry is soup-like and everything is combined together into one disposable plastic container. The curry came out piping hot(careful not to burn your tongue!) and it was full of flavour. It came with the usual vegetables(bamboo shoots, red peppers and zucchini) but it could have used more veggies. Overall, tasty dish but they scrimped on the vegetables and rice. I will have to come back again to try a couple other dishes. Lan’s has simplified things and gone back to the basics(hello Christina Aguilera album). One page of dishes and another for appetizers/drinks. Tom, the man working the front, is very sociable and friendly. It seems like he knows and remembers everyone’s names which is top notch, but I still prefer how things were back in the day. Make note — only open till 7:30pm(Tuesdays-Saturdays).

Great place for excellent food. The owner Tom is so welcoming, he acts like you’re an old friend even if it’s your first time visiting. The menu is not very big, only a handful of entrees but everything is made fresh and tastes delicious. Every dish can be made vegetarian too. My big complaint is that everything comes in plastic take out containers, I feel it’s very wasteful if you’re not actually taking food to go. If they don’t want to use actual plates, I wish they would opt for something more eco friendly and biodegradable than just plastic.

I had heard of this place through convos on Twitter… it took me a year to finally get there however I was happy I did. Located behind NAIT it wasn’t that hard to find. It was unexpected that you order first and then take a seat — or whichever order you prefer… basically there are no waiters but that didn’t affect our experience at all! Service was very friendly and quirky — you get to pick the name they call out for your order out of a metal box at the front. I believe we selected Handsome Charlie or something random and funny like that. I ordered Pad Thai and it was delicious — authentic and definitely so very fresh. Also nibbled on some Green Onion Cake with sweet chili sauce and it was fantastic — the right level of crispiness on the outside and softer on the outside. Fantastic! Pricing was a little higher than expected but well worth it considering the high quality of ingredients and dishes. We did chat a bit after dinner with one of the owners who gave us the heads up that they only order enough food to last the day so everything is extremely fresh. For that same reason it’s best not to come near the end of the day just before closing time as you run the risk of them not having much left to serve. I was also informed the same owners are embarking on a food truck venture offering all natural foods… stay tuned for that review. As a side note: there appeared to be a very tired and possibly homeless man at the front at a table. He wasn’t disturbing anybody and was sleeping soundly. I didn’t even notice he was there until we were almost finished our meal. It was heartwarming to see how nicely he was treated by the owner, who knew him by name and who helped him call a friend to come pick him up ensuring he wasn’t just thrust out into the night. The owner was also spotted picking up garbage outside the establishment which to me shows tremendous pride of ownership and gives me comfort knowing if he takes great care on what we see then it is likely the same ethics and care are applied in the kitchen, with the food preparation, staff and customers. All in all a wonderful little establishment that I highly recommend to others.(they have take out too!)

Not that it needs another rave review, but here it is anyways. Lan’s! Why has it taken me so long to knock you off my bookmark list?! I’ve read the reviews, heard the stories, and seen it sit on the list of top 5 Unilocal rated restaurants since I can remember. Even going there with high expectations I was still blown away. Is Tom the younger guy that takes the orders in the front? He was amazing! Incredible energy and when he told me they didn’t have any more shrimp for my salad rolls I wasn’t even a bit upset. Sure! Swap it with chicken! Such a great, friendly environment which alone is enough to warrant a 5 star review. Then there is the delicious food. I don’t need to go into detail because it has been done before. Just pick anything of the menu and I am sure you will be blown away. Keep doing what you’re doing Lan’s. You seriously rock and it won’t be too long before I’m back. Oh– and their homemade peanut sauce? BESTEVER.

Oh Lan’s… sooooo good, so far from me! So after years(literally years) of trying to get over to the Little-Lans-Thai-food-that-could that literarily(er, figuratively) blow your mind, I finally made it. And boy-oh-boy was it worth the drive! I think they had the best Pad Thai I have ever had. Everything was really, really good, but the Pad Thai sticks out — and normally I the Green Curry is what I love the most. So the concept is not like other place, Thai or otherwise, in Edmonton. It’s more like New York: you can eat in or take-out, but everything comes in to-go boxes no matter what. It’s kind of cool. What it is, is high quality casual dining. And I can’t wait to go back!

Great service. Good food. But why tip when its basically self serve??? I came here for lunch bc of the rave reviews. I ordered the green curry with coconut rice. It was very good. It was watery for me at first bc I was accustomed to a thicker sauce but the flavour was perfect and it warmed me up like a hot bowl of phở on a cold winter day. I also ordered the pad thai. There was a good portion of chicken in my meal but I found the ratio of noodles to bean sprouts to be disappointing. There was so much bean sprouts it really looked like a vegtable dish not a noodle dish. Despite this downfall the flavours were good. My only disapointment was that there is an automatic tip when u pay with a card. Not mandatory just a prompt to tip. I find this annoying as I had to seat myself then go to a counter to order and refill my own water. Then I have to go to the counter for takeout boxes and pack it myself… Mmmm im not sure why I have to tip if they just ring in my order and put it on my table… just saying. Other than that. Friendly service and next time I know that I shouldnt tip 20% for serving myself.

I have heard so many good things about this little restaurant. I was surprised that I had walked by it about a dozen times without going inside — there is nothing remarkable about it from the outside. We went for a birthday/Lunar New Year celebration. We were greeted and shown to our table by the General Manager, Tom. He is funny, cheerful and should seriously be on the radio. He has a velvety voice that you just can’t seem to hear enough of. It is sort of a modern diner style when you walk in. It looks like at lunch time, you look at the menu overhead and go up to the counter to place your order. The place is immaculately clean and well kept. They had 80’s music playing in the background on the night we were there, which we all loved! We had sit-down menus. I love that they had a variety of the traditional Vietnamese dishes but it wasn’t overly confusing. The choices were more of the popular items that I have seen on other menus. The teas were my marvel for this visit. They have a warm version of Vietnamese coffee, milk tea, almond milk tea and Thai tea. They were all wonderful according to our guests. I had the hot Almond Milk Tea which went wonderfully with my Lemongrass Beef Bowl and coconut rice. My beef was a bit on the salty side but everyone else at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We had quite the variety of dishes at the table too! The birthday girl was completely impressed — Vietnamese food is her favourite. We hear that Lan’s is often very busy. They do take reservations so it would be a good idea to call ahead. We can’t wait to go back!
