I used to drive by Phở Huong Que every day on the way to work and it intrigued me for some reason. It looks super rundown on the outside. The sign is kind of tattered and the blinds are often drawn. It was hard to tell if it was even still a functioning business or not. A friend mentioned he liked it here, so I finally got a couple of friends and checked it out on a weekday evening. There was nobody in there except for the husband and wife owners. It was a really hot day and it wasn’t much cooler inside. There was a ceiling fan or two slowly spinning, but that’s it. The walls are painting a strange minty green colour. The menus were brought and I was surprised at how much food was in them! Lots of different phở options, spring rolls and the like, different soups and other noodle bowls and meat dishes. But I was here for the phở, so that’s what I chose. I was also struck with the price. $ 8.50 a bowl and only one size! I dreamt of greatness. Unfortunately it just wasn’t that great. It wasn’t bad at all, mind you, but it was somewhat bland compared to my favourite phở places in town. And the portion wasn’t even huge to justify the price. My aforementioned friend, upon further clarification, says they have amazing pork chops, so maybe I’ll give this place one more try and have something else on the menu. There is a small private parking lot behind the restaurant.
