Best Chinese food hands down. Price is very reasonable, delivery was prompt even for such a busy day(valentine’s day). Would recommend it to anyone

I’ve ordered delivery twice at Szechuan Castle and both experiences were very similar so I’ll focus on the second time. I ordered Dinner for One — A(Egg Roll, Chicken Chop Suey, Dry Ribs, Chicken Fried Rice), small won ton soup, 2 spring rolls, 2 cans of pop, and the Canadian Chicken Fingers«n» Fries for my son who dislikes Chinese food. The price came to $ 36.47. They offer free delivery and orders must be a minimum of $ 33 Both times I was quoted 30 — 45 minutes for delivery and the driver came within the estimated time. They offer ‘debit at the door’ which is convenient and both times my order was correct. The lady on the phone as well as the delivery driver were both friendly and polite each time. In regards to the meal, there were some things I was please with and some things I disliked. I didn’t try the chicken fingers so won’t comment on that(although they were hot) but the fries were somewhat warm — not hot — and seemed to have been sitting under a warmer for a long time because they were slightly dried out, sort of-rubbery, and definitely not crispy. My son and I both disliked them enough that I decided to throw them away and made him a different side at home(this is only the second time I’ve done this with home delivery, definitely not a habit of mine). The won ton soup was hot and very flavorful. I was pleased that there were more pieces of meat than I expected and it was slightly larger than what I have gotten from small won ton soups at other restaurants. The spring rolls were crispy and hot and had good flavor. The batter for the egg roll wasn’t want I expected. It was more of a type of breading I would expect to find on chicken balls and because of that I was disappointed overall with the egg roll — it seemed to be more of a battered vegetable puff than an actual egg roll. However, it was hot and stuffed full with filling that was seasoned wonderfully. Everything in my meal was hot except the dry ribs. They were tough and slightly dried out, possibly from being under a warmer too long. The rice was typical of what I would expect from a Chinese restaurant, and the chicken chop suey was full of chicken with vegetables that were cooked and still slightly crispy. Overall I gave this restaurant a rating of 3⁄5 stars because the meal was flavorful and came in large quantities, but not all of the meal was hot and fresh. In the future I’ll choose spring rolls over egg rolls and skip the Western Foods section.

I had dropped in to this restaurant to pickup a lunch order for work. I found the parking to be very scarce and wasn’t very surprised to see how packed the restaurant was inside. The staff at the front was not very attentive, I had to wait about 10 minutes just for someone to finally come to the front; along with a few other patrons that were hoping to be seated. It wasn’t too pricey; average to other Chinese restaurants and overall the food was pretty tasty. I’d go again, but probably not during a lunch rush.

We have ordered delivery from here a few times. They are always very fast. We will be quoted a 40 min wait time but they will be here in 20. The quality and prices of food are average. The staff are always very friendly.

I was surprised to see all the positive reviews, as this is the second time i’ve ordered take out from this place, and it’s the second time i’ve been disappointed. One of the reviewers recommended the wonton soup. I found it flavorless. The chow mien is not bad to be sure, but I didn’t like the sweet and sour pork at all. Something didn’t taste right about it. I ordered the beef with mixed vegetables this last time, and I don’t know what was wrong with the beef but it tasted awful, as did the vegetables. I threw out the dish. I think their prices are fine, delivery is relatively fast, but the food is very disappointing. YMMV but I won’t be ordering from this place again.

I’ve been ordering delivery from here for ten years, and it never disappoints. We always seem to order the same things. I recommend the Wor Wonton soup, Salt n’ Pepper Ribs, Castle’s Special Chow Mein, and Creamy Yam Yam Jumbo Shrimp. That last dish is so weird and so good. It comes with lightly breaded shrimp, a mayonnaise-like sauce and PEACHES! It’s odd but so good! I went today, Friday night at 7:15 to the actual restaurant, and was a bit disappointed. Some of the dishes were cold. Some were empty. I kinda felt like we were being hurried out when we flagged our waitress down. She asked, «Ready to leave?» Um… No. Can we get another beer? She delivered our check immediately afterward. Hmmm… Well, it DID appear they were ready to close very soon afterward. In restaurant, was a three for me, but for delivery, it’s a four. The only thing that might make the delivery system better is ordering on-line instead of by phone. What do you say Szechuan Castle? Is that a possibility?

I don’t know if the quality and taste had decreased or if I have different standards of Chinese food than other reviewers, but unfortunately, my experience was just meh. If I were to judge on food alone, I would have given a 2 star rating. The service is what brought it up to 3 stars. The servers were very genuinely helpful and friendly! The food however, was mediocre. There was no flavours that stood out for me and the dishes were almost bland compared to the other Chinese places around town. They don’t have as much selection as other buffets either. That plus the fact that it costs more than other Chinese buffets equals an experience I don’t wish to repeat. I’ve never had their delivery, but if it tastes anything like their buffet, it’s not worth it. Word of warning, don’t try their kimchi on their salad bar. I’m not sure why I expected better, but I’m not even sure if it was still good and kimchi rarely ever goes bad… Overall, it didn’t leave a good impression and although all the employees there were amazing, the food will unfortunately keep me away.

The outside is no indication of the bright and inviting décor inside. We arrived for the dinner buffet, shortly before 730pm on a Saturday evening, and the buffet was full and hot. The staff were very cheerful and friendly and the food was tasty and plentiful. Dinner Buffet was $ 19.99 and includes 20+ hot dishes, salad bar, soup and dessert.(No ice cream)

We tried Szechuan Castle again about a month ago. The food hasn’t improved at all. I’m surprised, as I was hoping the previous experience was a one-time thing.

This is a tough review. I have had lots of Chinese food that is much, much better than this. I came here because people said this is a great Chinese food buffet restaurant. There is lots of selection, but listen… this is a western Chinese food buffet, with not a lot of flavor(for me)… The place was busy, the staff are super friendly and it seems like an ok place to take the family. Prices are reasonable too. For people who like the Western style, then probably a 4 star… but for overall tastiness of the food… I can only give a 3 star.

I love the Castle. They have a great buffets and great service. Delivery is always on time. When you go pick up it is ready right when they say! I love the food they have a great Chinese buffet for lunch and dinner. If you are going at lunch go early. This is one of the only Chinese food restaurants that my family will order at. My favourite at the buffet is the Chilli Shrimp and they make a great BBQ Pork. For take out the containers are always full and the food is hot! The buffet is always being freshened up with hot food Too! what more can you ask for. The management and staff is always pleasant and they are dedicated when it comes to supporting the community too!

My hunnybunny reviewed the Szechuan Castle recently, because they«delivered happiness» to us one night. I’m reviewing them today because they just did it again. Consistency being as important as taste, the Szechuan Castle deserves kudos for making a repeat order just as wonderful(and correctly customized, just as we requested) as our previous dinner. The sweets were sweet, the salty and gingery just as claimed, the fried rice tasty, and everything spiced well but not overspiced — there was still room for me to taste as I like, and to add the sauces in the ways that make me smile.(Thank you, Szechuan Castle, for providing ample sauces & packets.) Soon we’ll do it again. I think this will be our regular go to place, especially when its too cold to go out. Their delivery driver is very pleasant and the order staff on the phone equally cheerful. Way to go!

Szechuan Castle delivered happiness this evening. From the order lady’s friendly and helpful manner, to the encouraging attention to the tiny changes we requested, to the delivery driver’s vibes of contentment to the tasty dishes, each with their own character, to the additional sauces packed as requested, it was the best Chinese delivery food we’ve had in Edmonton. The better half decided upon the Castle’s Gourmet Dinner, with the deep-fried combo plate(wonton, dry ribs, spring rolls), beef with mixed vegetables, Szechuan beef, sweet & sour pork, and chicken fried rice. Nothing disappointed; each item was exactly as advertised and as expected. Prices good. Portions hefty. When was the last time all that happened? I’m looking forward to the next time we give Szechuan Castle a try. We love it because we eat it up yummmmm!

Known for its large buffet, the Chinese is not bad for Western Chinese food. I always ask for no MSG and they leave out where possible. Favorite dishes here are Black Bean Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Ginger Beef. I’m not a fan of the Chicken Balls that have too much dough and a small amount of low grade chicken. Delivery is free in the local area if order is over $ 30.

I visited here for the first time on Sunday, I love going to buffets and I was impressed with this one, there was actual flavor to the food it didn’t taste bland like some buffets I’ve been too. The workers were friendly and the serves came by with refills of water every 5 to 10 mins which was great as normally you have to get their attention or when the glass is empty!. I would deffiantly come back again! … There was also alot of selection as well, I had 2 plates and was completely stuffed I thought I had to be rolled out of the place, thank god for yoga pants!

Well I can keep this short a sweet. Been going here for years more as a takeout or delivery choice. Food is almost always good and arrives warm. Doesn’t seem so gelatinous as some of the food out there or as greasy. My go to order is the dinner for two deluxe with chicken & mixed veggies instead of beef for me’ lady. Good pricing and generous portions. When eating in it is fully renovated after the terrible fire a while back and as such is open and clean. It can get pretty busy at times but table turnover is decent as well. When you want dependable fast«Chinese» food please consider them as they have been in business for years and truly aim to please their customers!

Is the food Chinese? Not authentic but the usual westernized fair. However, it was very good for what it was. The dinner buffet is large and I didn’t find any of the dishes greasy and overall it was very tasty, except for a few dishes I tasted that I didn’t care for, so next time I just won’t eat them. Only thing is with a buffet, it took a while to gain someone’s attention to get some tea. It’s a busy place, but you get seated pretty quickly unless you come in with a large group that requires many tables. Looking forward to my next visit of westernized chinese food.

You know, the nice thing about having low expectations is that it’s a brilliant surprise when they are exceeded. I tend to scoff at «western» Chinese food, given that it bears little resemblance to real Chinese cuisine. Szechuan Castle, however, did a pretty fine job making westernized Chinese food tasty. Expect the likes of ginger beef, chicken balls, and chop suey, but it’s all fresh, piping hot, and tasty. It’s a huge step up from the nasty Chinese food(and I am loathe to call it that) that I experienced in a small prairie town as a child. Oh, and I had jello with marshmallows for dessert. That alone made me smile. We all have our guilty pleasures. It can’t be flourless chocolate torte with salted hazelnuts and lemon crème every day.

The food was very tasty for«western» Chinese food. It was a buffet that I ate and food was quite hot. It was obvious from the large number of people present at the restaurant that the food was always fresh because there was a constant line-up of people taking food. Men’s restrooms was spotless and smelled very clean. I took a quick walk around and all toilets, urinals and sinks were squeaky clean which is always important to me as a customer. The price was $ 16.99 per adult. Tonight, I ate with my 2-year old Godson and was appalled that they charged me $ 3 for him! He ate 1 spring roll and drank some water from a glass and they charged me $ 3. This is the first time EVER being charged for him, which is enough for me not to return there.
