This place has the best carrots I’ve ever had in my entire life. Definitely reccomend the carrots. The carrots rock! Go carrots !

Awesome place to come and casually hang out with friends! The space inside is huge, with lots of pool tables. That being said, there can be quite a long wait to get in a table and actually play so be prepared to sit down and wait for a while. Parking is available, but the private lot fills up fast. Luckily, there’s lots of street parking around too!(I love a downtown place that doesn’t require me to pay for parking, I really do). Huge drink selection! Also lots of food choices. I didn’t get anything to eat, but it all looked and smelled pretty good. Service is very slow and sporadic though. Basically, just be prepared to wait. And also to frantically flag down a server if you want something. All in all, a great place to come for a slow night out.

The wor wonton soup is probably the best wonton soup I’ve had. BF had the veggie burger: had a bite, it was delicious! Can’t wait to return and try more of the menu. Good place to shoot some pool as well.

I have to echo many of the comments below that this place has great pool and pub food, but awful service. Tables and cues have always been in great condition in my experience. For a place focused on billiards they are doing that right and taking care of their equipment. I’m a fan of their food and they do all the pub standards well, and have some nifty additions like those cinnamon mini donuts you can get at carnivals. The issue is that service is consistently very slow… which is annoying enough under normal circumstances, but amplified by the fact that you pay for tables by the hour so it literally costs more money the worse the service is(unless you plan on staying there for hours regardless). The staff also refused to split our pool cost between my group last time I was there, which I am certain was just inconveniencing us for the sake of laziness on their part, as I had gotten it split in the past so I know they are capable of it.

Let me preface this by saying that I don’t play pool so that’s not why I come here. I belong to a group that requires a lot of meetings and a good portion of a lot of those meetings are held here. It’s downtown but in a great location, it has it’s own free parking and it’s huge inside making it ideal for large groups. I don’t often eat here but when I do the food is always excellent, one of my friends won’t stop talking about the wonton soup(and I see another review here say that all soups are done from scratch, which makes them even better in my books!) so that’s definitely next on my list. There’s nothing on the menu that you won’t find in any other places but it’s all really really good. The only downside is the service, it’s really inconsistent. It’s never been enough of an issue to bother me but if you like a pub with really attentive, quick service than you may not like it here.

Food is great. Soups are from scratch. Good lunch specials. On par or better than a good number of the go to places in the down town core. You will also not leave hungry. Staff are friendly and generally able to attend to your order soon after arriving. They are set up well to enjoy a great meal and finish a few racks.

I have been going to Metro for a couple years now, and I can safely say I am rarely less than entirely satisfied. I go reguarly(a couple of times a week), at first mainly because it’s the place an old friend and I decided we would go to keep in touch, but later because of the great service staff. Though there are quite a few good staff, a few of the absolutely exceptional servers are Jamie and Matthew. I would always prefer to play pool in their sections. I can’t say enough how great those individuals are. Lily(I hope that’s her name), and Lydia seem to take care of the bar fairly often, and they’re great as well, though I don’t often sit there. I can say with relative certainty that you would be well taken care of by any of them. This is the place you should go if you enjoy pool and dislike the pool tables and tipsy hipsters you’ll get at most bars. That being said you’re at a pool hall/bar. If you’re not interested at all in playing pool(I don’t mean professionally. Frankly, I just mess around.), and/or you don’t want to relax and have a drink, you’re probably wasting your time. I expect that kind of person is going to find themselves constantly disappointed whenever they go to bar-like establishments. Reading a couple of the negative reviews, I can’t help but wonder if some of the customers were quite a bit more rude/oblivious than they recognize.

This was supposed to be an awesome night. I live in łn Toronto, and I’m back in Edmonton so rarely, so was very excited to go out with my brothers and my dad. I was very disappointed with the service at the front when I tried to pay for our pool. She was rude and not helpful. I won’t come here again. Won’t come back.

Big pool hall. This facility caters to many different types of clientele. ranging from students to corporate types. The tables are fairly well-maintained.I attended recently as part of a corporate team event. Pretty good service from the drink servers. The snacks were pretty standard pub fare. The facilities still has a pretty funky smell to it probably stemming from much spilled drinks and years previously when smoking was allowed.

After the first What The Truck of the season, the Hubba Hubby and I were looking to explore to fill our stomachs just a little more, and to extend our date night. We remembered that we wanted to try Metro and were only a few blocks away so we checked it out. Love the fact that there’s on site parking, LOTS of space in the restaurant and a pretty full menu. We put our names on the list for pool, deciding that we’d play if our number came up before we were ready to leave. And with how long service took, you think that we would have gotten some pool in… but our number came up right when we were done(well, we were done before that but it took a while to flag down our waitress). The service was so lacking it was unfortunate. It took(what seemed like) forever for our waitress to come around each time. The beer selection is good, which was perfect, as I was really in the mood for one. I had one of their concoctions of lemonade and beer, which I thought would have been perfect for a sunny Saturday… but it was flat and disappointing. I would skip it next time and just order a bottled bevie and save the summer treat for home. We shared dessert — mini donuts that didn’t disappoint(mind you, I really hope that mini donuts never disappoint!) as they even came with caramel and chocolate dipping sauces. We won’t be back — I’m a huge fan of great service and we definitely didn’t receive that there. If you’re looking for a place where you can just hang out, enjoy some eats and some pool in a relaxed environment, then I’m sure it’s a great spot. But for a quick trip to end off a date night, we’d skip it and just have dessert ;) at home!

I went to The Metro a bit ago. It was my first time there, I heard about it and finally decided to check it out. I went with a few friends of mine. We started off with appetizers, we got the nachos and some garlic fries. I was looking forward to the fries but they weren’t very good, and ive had better nachos for sure! We all got supper, the pizza I expected it to be better and the hot dogs were okay and same with the burgers. We also got dessert, not much for selection but that was also alright. After eating we played some pool, which was fun. The good thing about Metro it has lots of space. I don’t think id ever go back for food. But id probably only go back if I was in the mood for some pool and drinks. They did have a good drink selections. I didn’t get the beer but they seemed to have a variety. So if youre in the mood for pool and drinks, I recommend it but I wouldn’t come here for dinner.

I’ll admit that I was here rather early in the day, only because I had a meeting at Latitude 53 next door, which I was waiting for to open. The place is huge and full of pool tables at reasonable hourly and daily rates. There are also plenty of tables to enjoy food and drink — of which there is much. I was impressed with the beer selection, especially how many fruit beers were available, although my server clarified that the drink list can get out of date and the best way to pick a beer is to just look at their cooler. The food menu is also quite large and prices seem reasonable. Service was very friendly and warm, even though I was only having a coffee. It was a Saturday morning, so there were some breakfast specials too. However, service was also a bit slow. It took around ten minutes for me to even be noticed after I came in and sat down. When I was ready to leave, my server was nowhere to be found so I paid at the bar. I would like to come back here for a meal some time, although I fear I could be in for a wait.

Pool tables are great. Well maintained for the most part. Food has improved in the last 7 years. Prices may be slightly higher than nearby competitors. Very nice beer selection from around the world. Also a little pricey. I really like this room as it holds a lot of memories for me. However, to get that last star means a lot of improvement in the presence of their service and fresh new weekly promotions to contend with Pint and Canadian Brewhouse.

Pluses: — great food overall — pizzas and burgers are particularly good(try the sliders!) — excellent beer selection(when it’s in stock!) try Delerium Tremens — yum — serving staff is generally quite competent, one gal who is excellent — no bad pop /synthy music, more classic/90s rock scene, I can handle that — lots of seating, good late-night hangout place, casual scene — noise level is tolerable even when it’s busy — older crowd(less silly kid drama inside and outside, very few snotty hipsters) — good alternative to watch hockey, lots of TVs but not too intrusive Minuses: — sometimes the service is lousy, especially in the pool table section — the host/ess at the front is generally useless — the bar-style seating if there are no booths left — uncomfortable It’s local, it’s predictable, it’s a good mostly chill hang-out place to have some nibblies, brews and a chat with some mates. Bar clothes optional — wear jeans and a T!

If you’re not going there to play pool; skip it. There’s nothing exciting or great about this place. Bar chairs are old and rickety — I was pretty sure my boyfriend was going to go ass over tea kettle at one point. We went for Sunday night football, beer and nachos. We got two out of three. Beer selection was adequate(in bottles, draft was seriously lacking) and football was definitely on, but the nachos were cold, the cheese was barely melted and for $ 17 I expected way, way, WAY more food than what we received. Hardly the ‘best nachos in Edmonton’ as they so proudly display.(For a GREAT Sunday night nacho experience go to Hudson’s) There also was no drink specials on Sunday night which is odd and kind of bad planning on their part. Sunday isn’t exactly a popular night. The reason? The bartender told us they were in the process of changing their menu.(what that has to do with drink specials, I’ll never know.) Their menu was big — a lot of selection. Which is good AND bad because I always wonder with a menu that large if they can do ANYTHING really well or if everything is just average. I always feel by page 5 of a menu that something’s not right. I won’t be going back to find out. The crowd there is. interesting. There’s a combination between pool playing peeps who keep to themselves and then there’s the reject«I work here» crowd which are loud, obnoxious and generally irritating. Our server/bartender was the pits. She was either stupid or new. In either case she only spoke to my boyfriend(which is just plain rude) and didn’t realize that Stella was not a twist off. the second time she brought me one. Anyway, it wasn’t the place for discerning tastes. There’s a lot of potential here but it’s doubtful it’ll ever be met. If you aren’t expecting decent service or don’t have taste buds, you’ll do just fine here.

Looking at all the good reviews, I should expect«The Metro» to be an awesome place! However, that is not the case :( My Friend Warren, and Girlfriend Amanda went there on Monday September 10 at around 18:00 hrs. The server was prompt at first, and then diminished in frequency to our after that. Our food was Good, except Warren’s Poutine Fries were over deep-fried. We waited around for ever for the bill, and to top it off, when we were in the parking lot getting into our vehicles, an employee of «The Metro» came outside and yelled to us «Did You pay for Your pool?»(meaning did we pay for billiards), we did not play any billiards, however the method she chose was both embarrassing and offensive. To top it all off, after I yelled back stating«We never played any pool», she yell replied«Are You sure?». The food is good, the service lacks :(

I have been going here since high school to play pool and enjoy the food and environment. ANDWOW, this place has really improved. They cleaned up the place, especially the pool tables now the table cloths are clean and there arent dirt pieces that ruin your games. Another big change i saw was the food menu, they changed the design of the menu and also added a few new items. I always end up getting their nachos cause its a basket full of awesomeness. And another favorite are the poutines they added to the menu. I tried the regular, and was very satisfied buy the amount given and the taste, but i have yet to try the other 3 they offer. Overall this is just a great place to go hang out and enjoy the environment.

I came here for Edmonton’s first CMYE. The Metro Billiards room is a generalization of a simple local bar with a pool table kinda place. They’ve extended it to several pool tables, probably 12 or so? It’s really quite spacious and even for a Wednesday night, pretty occupied with passionate pool players chalking their cues for their turn. I think on a couple of occasions I actually heard people clapping and that kind of jazz which, I thought to myself, probably meant a lot in a pooler infested room like this. It’s really the best place to come and play pool, that I have seen in Edmonton so far(Granted, that I have a limited knowledge of the city). Now, given that I’m not nearly as excited about pool, I found that the rest of the place is quite okay. I think they had a pretty long list of beers, and from what I could tell — some awesome varieties; so I was quite impressed. The food was the basic chain-bars-across-America kind of stuff. A few salads, a few finger foods, a few burger-like options and some other fusion varieties. Not to say that I didn’t like my Chicken Cobb Salad — it was yummy, especially since I asked for the ranch dressing on the side. I think most people enjoyed what they ate. I also got a chance to try the potato skins and they were yummy and didn’t feel too greasy. The location is perfect for big groups. The pool area is sort of half the whole bar area, with the rest of it being seating for the regular bar goers. The music can be heard, but given that it’s such a big space, it’s not all encompassing. That’s what makes it kinda a good place.

Discovered at a a Unilocal event and had a great time. The pool hall is large and has free parking which in downtown is a big plus. Didn’t eat but those around me seemed to enjoy their food. I chose to have a liquid dinner from the large beer selection and although they didn’t cater to my particular tastes in beer they did have a good selection.

I first discovered The Metro while attending Grant MacEwan College over a decade ago. The place has gone through several changes since, but is still as welcoming now as ever. For students, and anyone else for that matter, it’s a convenient place for lunch and billiards. Norquest just took over the old A&B Sound building just down the block and MacEwan is only a few short blocks away. The Metro is interesting because it doesn’t necessarily have a specific demographic from what I can tell. Obviously patrons must be over the age of 18, but adults of all ages feel comfortable here. The décor is very classy but not in a snooty or exclusive way. There are TVs all around the club as well as over the bar so you won’t miss the game. The primary focus is billiards and they have several well taken care of tables. No coin tables here! There’s also a private room with a pool table available to rent. They offer a full menu and a wide variety of alcoholic beverages. The wait staff are attentive and attractive. You can sit at the bar or they have a section of tables and booths available if you’re not interested in playing pool.
