The Rock & Gem Shop

Took some things in for repairs based on a recommendation. Even if you have nothing to take in, go. Just to experience this amazing little «gem» of a place. Wow, so much to see. Amazing selection of rocks, gems, trinkets and baubles.

The Rock & Gem Shop, how I love thee! Even though it is a little cramped, the vibe is warm, welcoming and relaxed.
The owner’s son Aj is a real character — he always seems to recognize his customers and takes the time to chat. Jan is also always there, ready to answer questions and offer interesting insights into stones and their metaphysical properties. I love seeing what stones she is carrying in her pockets that day! They are very patient and allow me all the time I need to «feel» which stone is for me, which is much appreciated! The people working here truly seem to love it and take pride in what they do.
Their selection of stones is vast & they also carry incense, gifts, jewellery & jewellery making supplies, lapidary & metalsmithing equipment.
I hope to one day sign up for their silversmithing classes, which are held in the back of the shop.
The store is open Tuesday — Saturday with extended hours on Thursdays.

So much to see and be inspired by in The Rock & Gem Shop.
I didn’t know that they had so many jewellery making supplies including a large selection of beads and supplies including chain, rope, jump rings, clasps, charms, etc. but I was happy to discover a few things that I need for my jewellery making and fixing.
It’s a great place to pick up some gifts as well — we had specifically dropped in to pick up a gift certificate for my cousin’s son as he’s super into gems right now and we know he’s going to be surprised this Christmas! And if we had a bigger budget, we definitely would have been looking at the bigger gems! Beautiful and unique gems of all sizes are everywhere!

I visited the Rock & Gem Shop to pick up some silver and other silversmithing supplies. The store is small, but it is packed with tons of cool stuff! They had a wide variety of silversmithing equipment, silver wire, ring blanks, and sheet metal (though they were a bit short on some things, I guess I visited a week before their next shipment). There were several customers in the store when I visited, but it seemed like everyone was recieving great customer service, including myself. The staff were friendly, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable. Prices on what I purchased were great (silver is currently at around $ 1.30/gram) and I was happy with my visit. Woohoo!

I stopped in here the other day because I heard the store sells silver chains at reasonable prices. Whoever told me that was correct — I got two beautiful chains sold to me at a per gram price. I was also impressed with the selection of rocks, crystals, incense, sage, and jewellery making supplies. This isn’t a New Age store as such, but there are a lot of Pagan, Wiccan, and New Age supplies here, like the aforementioned sage, crystals, and crystals, as well as pendulums, and related items. I ended up also leaving with some incense, a couple of tumbled stones, and a Star of David with Chakra crystals on it — truly unique. The prices here are reasonable — slightly lower than in religious specialty stores, and there are lapidary and jewellery making services available.

This shop has everything for the aspiring jewellery artist and rock collector. There is hundreds of stones to browse through and even some rough stones available for an OK price. You can order in items that are not stocked and he has tons of neat little tools and replacement parts in the store. The owner is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and goes out of his way to make sure you have all the items you need or information about an item.
Although his prices on some of the items and equipment are a little pricey as compared to some of the other places in Edmonton and Calgary, the owner makes sure you leave the store happy and gives helpful information on products that other stores either don’t know or don’t offer for free.
