They were late getting started. They Didn’t book enough time to get my colour and cut done I had to leave to get my kids from after school pickup. I left with wet hair — cut colour and NO style was $ 300+! High downtown price! Never going back.

Shelby is a very talented hairdresser and always gives me exactly what I ask for. She’s also very friendly and seems to go to any length to make her customers happy. I could not recommend her enough!

While I love this place its a shame it’s now way out of my way! I needed a hair cut really badly and had no problem booking on a weekend day with a newer stylist George. Kind of unheard of in the salon world! I arrived right on time and was immediately greeted by reception. They gave me a kimono to change into and was offered coffee or tea. Right away George came over and introduced himself. Brought me to his chair and asked me what I was looking for. I pretty much left it in his hands as it was in the growing out stage and desperately needed a colour touch up! I told him what my goals were and he gave me his opinions, we both agreed that in order for it to grow out nicely we’d need to lose some length. Fast forward a bit… My end result was amazing! Exactly what I was hoping for and a style I could do myself. Being honest with any stylist is key to a style you can do yourself! Never once did I feel pressured, forced into an up-sell or felt like I wasn’t being listened to. George also did my eyebrows! And in all my years I’ve never had them look so good!

Having decided to find a new place to get my haircut, I found Tommie Salon, on 142nd Street. It is located in the shopping area and in the exact spot of a previous hair salon, one that had been there many years. I decided to try it since when I called I also found out that on Thursdays, they are open LATE… something VERY helpful to my ridiculous schedule these days. The person who owns it is very extroverted and the space too, is really laid back without being«trendy» feeling. Lots of windows, so lots of natural light. They have a good number of different treatments(they even do Botox parties with a trained professional. You have to sign up for it in advance) that they do but I went in for a haircut… so, this review is based on my time there. The person who did my hair, and will continue to do my hair is Manuela. Really nice without being over the top and really made me feel comfortable as my time there didn’t feel like she needed to rush away to the next person or that perhaps she would have rather been doing something to another person’s hair. Very personable and also, and ready, wait for it… BOTH sides by my ears were cut the SAME :-) I got home and checked again and yep, they were the same :-) so no need for the scissors to «adjust». Also, Manuela doesn’t mind if I don’t chat it up. If we do, we have managed to talk about things ranging from magazine articles to movies, to trips and I don’t feel like it is forced :-) Cost is comparable to other places…$ 60 but more so, I feel like I am worth the time even if I am a «no frills» client who doesn’t get the colour or extras. Did I mention that they are open until 9pm on Thursdays, CORRECTION: 9am-9pm Monday — Friday. I couldn’t believe it when I heard it and happily, it is not far from where I live… though I need to drive, it is VERY short drive and there is AMPLE parking :-) Happily, I have found a new place and can put my scissors back in the craft drawer ;-)
