Well it’s summer time and that usually means Vivint door to door sales men. Just had one show up at my door, even though I have a sign of another alarm company in the front. Took over 5 «not interested’s» before he would leave, definitely don’t take hints. That being said, I figure I would warn others, before you sign up with them. Not sure why this shows as closed, as they are still around. Last summer I had one show up and against my better judgement I let him give me the sales pitch. The first thing they will say is they are giving a promotion for only the first 5 people in the area, and they are«giving away» a free system, the only catch is you provide advertising for them with your sign on your lawn. Or they will try to convince you that they will update your current system for free. Let me clarify something, the system is not really free. You will end up signing a 5 years contract for the full automation system of about $ 74. Here’s the kicker, I was told that was with a special of $ 10 off already, but when I went online later that night I saw that the automation package was $ 74 to begin with! When I argued against it being so high, he mentioned I could downgrade(means all the bells and whistles that they were telling you about get taken away), so that cost would be $ 46 or so a month. This doesn’t include a one time«admin» fee. So in essence you are paying for the system. They will pressure and pressure you, and tell you they happen to have the install guy in the area and can install it that same night. I’m not saying this is a scam because a scam would be if you didn’t get what you wanted, in this case, you do get an alarm system. But I do question their sales tactic. I ended up going with another alarm company paying $ 24 a month and bought my system for $ 279 out right and no special admin fee upfront. I also don’t like long term contracts because I find if something comes up, you are stuck paying the whole contract. Unless you are willing to pay a crazy penalty. 1 year is what most places will commit you to, which isn’t a big deal. I also want to add that I asked him if I could sleep on it, but he kept saying this was a one day deal only, that right there should be a first clue that they may be worried you will change your mind. I did Google them and found many complaints with them, especially with trying to cancel even after your 5 years is over. They will also use the fear factor, asking if you care about your family or your own safety etc. Another note. In Alberta you have 10 days to change your mind for any contract you signed for, so keep that in mind.

So I had wanted a system for years so when they came to the door I thought hey why not. Seemed like a nice high tech system with access with cell phones and online stuff that I can play around with; even the auto door locks were nice. Well we have our lawn care company stuff in our garage and told them that we’d need our employees coming and going everyday out of there. They said fine no problem. Next morning, alarm goes off when the garage opens when they got their equipment. I told them to fix it, the tech said that problem was fixed, it would no longer go off. Next morning, goes off. Again same exact promise. Next morning, goes off and I wasn’t by my phone. All hell breaks loose and they are sending guards out and calling me a million times and my relatives. Again, said problem would be fixed. Next morning, goes off AGAIN… at this point I’ve had enough. Don’t even arm the system when I leave, go to simply lock the door in the morning to leave for work and the door panel no longer works at all! I’m within the 10 days of cancelling so I’m frantically sending notice in to cancel every avenue possible. Horrible. I just want this stuff out of my house asap; way more hassle then it’s worth
