I have been getting my haircut at salon Allegro for the past three years. Gladys who owns the place is the one who always cuts my hair and I have been very happy with her her haircut. She is very pleasant to deal with and it seems like the other customers that are there like her as well(usually someone waking by who stops in). She is located in a small mall and there is ample parking. She takes appointments and is always been respectful of wait times. I usually don’t have to wait very long if at all. I’m a guy and a haircut price is very reasonable and better than most places around the area.

Generally I’m reluctant to review something with only a one-time experience, but I won’t be going back to Salon Allegro for a second time. Gladys cut my curly hair into a disaster. I felt that I was clear about what exactly I wanted, and made suggestions on the type of cutting techniques that I already know work for my curls. I wanted the overall length to be at the bottom of my neck, layers conducive to curls, and a side bang trim – pretty basic stuff. After trimming my bangs, Gladys divided my hair into three sections – right side, left side, and back. She then hacked off the hair of each section – *dry* hair – in a few snips in less than a minute, and proclaimed that she just cut the overall length. I’ve never had my hair cut like that before, but I didn’t think much of it, because even though a stylist may have a strange technique, it could still result in a good haircut. She then wet down my hair and cut the layers. Once she was done, I asked her to blow my hair out straight. She seemed to not know what she was doing. I basically had to tell her while she worked how to blow out my hair. The end result: straight flat hair with no movement, what seemed like the same length all around, blunt ends that looked like they were chopped with kitchen scissors, and wispy bangs that stuck out and didn’t stay to the side. I was so upset. A few days later I washed and styled my hair at home as usual, and it looked even worse curly – it goes out in a very obvious early 1990s triangle shape, with the front barely layered. If I wanted a cheap looking haircut, I would have gone to First Choice or TopCuts. Instead of the usual gushing compliments I used to get after a visit with my former hairstylist, with this new hair cut I got, «Oh… did you cut your hair?» The good: I was charged only $ 38(but for what I ended up getting, that’s too much), and the hairdresser said if once I washed my hair and styled it at home and I think it needs fixing, I could return and she’d take care of it. It definitely needs fixing, but no way will I return.
