My go to for fish and chips. Friends from England say it is like the good ol chip shops from their youth. Their meat pies are fantastic. Buy them frozen and cook at home for a quick, tasty work night dinner

While camping at Alice Lake, we stopped here for takeaway after our day out lasted longer than expected. I have to say, this is about the closest I’ve come to proper British fish & chips in Canada. Wigan Pier eschews the finesse attempted by many fish and chip restaurants this side of the pond and goes instead for big lumps of fish in a fairly thick batter. But best of all, their chips are simple — thick square cut, fried once, and not overly crispy or fried to death. The piece de resistance is that they are served wrapped in paper for takeaway. Oh, and mushy peas. And tizer. The only disappointment was that batter was a perhaps little too solid. I wonder if the use of our west coast all-purpose flour with its high gluten content messed up the traditional british recipe. Nevertheless, a great option for a camping takeaway.

The perk of driving up to Whistler, besides the magnificent view, is hands down the fish and chips. It’s one of the best fish and chips joints I’ve had around the Lower Mainland(and US) by far. What’s so kick ass about their battered fried fish is the fact their batter is incredibly light and not greasy. My significant other and I make it up to Squamish here as an annual ritual just to relive the good old fish n chip memories. This year we tried cod and the usual halibut. Both were phenomenal but I do like the halibut more. We also had a British poutine. I am not a fan of poutine. I think it’s an acquired food. Soggy fries, no matter how much butter, truffles, jazz, mayo, demi-glaze, doesn’t change the fact these fries are soggy. The fries from the poutine that were still dry and crispy were really good. There’s a rich deep potato taste. The crunch of these fries were satisfying. I was impressed. This place have meat pies on their menu which you can order for dine-in or better yet you can buy them frozen to go and eat them at the comfort of your home. The flavors are varied from curry, chicken pot, to meat and kidney. They even have apple pies and Shepard’s pie. Service is friendly.
