With the rise in popularity of Portugese«Piri» cuisine, glad to have this within walking distance of work. The Marinated Chicken sandwich and Chicken Poutine are a perfect complement to any work day. While not the best poutine I’ve ever had, its damn close to it.

The food here… outstanding. They obviously know what they’re doing when it comes to cooking. The portions are pretty big and the food’s always made excellently to order.

One of the toughest parts of starting a new job is lunch. I worked for 4 years in the Little Italy area, the land of amazing lunch so moving to Terrasses de la Chaudiere had me worried about where to get a good mid-day munch. Gallo Piri Piri is kitty-corner from my building but the sign makes it look like a fancy sit-down restaurant so I had gone to a couple of disappointing lunch spots during the week to save money, on Friday I decided to treat myself and go to the sit down restaurant, only to find that it wasn’t one! Surprise at the take-outiness of piri-piri aside, this place is really tasty. I had a sandwich and a mysterious Portuguese soft drink. The sandwich is really basic, it is chicken on a bun, nothing more, nothing less. The marinade on the chicken is excellent, really flavourful and perfectly balanced. It was also cooked to perfection, really tender and juicy, and at $ 6.00 it is good value for money. The bread was very soft and chewy, although it is a little bland for my liking, that is the only thing keeping it from a 5 star. Will definitely be back for lunch next week, looking forward to giving something else a try

Visited Galo Piri Piri on a Saturday evening with family. I ordered a spicy half chicken dinner with rice and also a bottle of Super Bock. My order was made in English with no problems. My main discontent this visit is that for some reason the heater in the restaurant was set to the highest, it blasted hot air directly towards the seating area. I have notice some customers switched their seats to avoid the direct flow of hot air, and within mins change their orders to take out instead. The chicken was cooked to perfection juicy and never dry, however the rice was a bit burned. Even tho I have order the chicken in spicy piri piri, only a layer of the sauce was applied to the skin. Comparing the quality of chicken with Nandos: Galo Piri Piri has the better method of cooking, hence they remained juicy. However Nandos has the hotter selection of piri piri sauces(which they used quite a lot to cover the dryness of their chicken). I will come back but only for take outs, unless they adjust the air conditioning to a comfortable setting.

What a find near my office. I’ve not had much Portuguese food so I can’t comment on its authenticity, except that I went with a Portuguese friend who goes all the time. And while we were there we ran into many of her family and friends so I think that says a lot. But it’s the food you are wondering about. We had sandwiches, one pork and one chicken, and they were both delicious. Tender meat, spicy as requested, and on very soft and delicious Portuguese bread. The fries were also excellent with a delicious flavour I can’t quite put my finger on. The only drawback is limited seating. I will be back again for sure. Maybe this week.
