Came up to visit my girlfriend in Guelph and we both had a craving for Indian food. I love Indian food and was excited after reading all the reviews on Unilocal. So off to Spice 11 we go. It was pretty dead when we arrived and it was around 8pm on a Friday so seating wasn’t an issue. I have to say service was pretty slow and our server didn’t have much knowledge on the dishes. We ended up ordering 3 dishes — chicken korma, chicken pasanda, and chicken madras all medium because the waitress recommended we do so because hot was really spicy. I’ll be honest, I’ve had a ton of Indian food and this ranks pretty low. I tried the chicken korma first and had a hard time tasting the spice, I checked under pieces of chicken and spice was no where to be found. My girlfriend said the korma tasted like there was honey it,(later found out it was almond powder, cream and sugar… I don’t know if I’ve ever made a curry with sugar) The curries were almost purée like and included a couple pieces of chicken. The Chicken Pasanda was so sweet we gave up on it after a couple of bites. We ate the chicken though and left the gravy. To finish it off we had the chicken Madras which was supposed to be spicier according to the waitress, guessing by how the other two tasted I had assumed spice had left the building long ago. The more I dipped the garlic na’an into the madras, the more it reminded me of tomato sauce with cilantro. The curries were lacking full flavours and spices! Indian food is all about spice mixtures and flavour, this place just didn’t have it. I don’t see myself coming back here any time soon. I left unsatisfied and my Indian craving for spice was left unsettled. Til next time.

Not too bad. Very empty quiet restaurant when we went. Service staff is a little distant. Stayed too far away folding napkins. in order to get attention we’d have to yell disturbing the one other couple enjoying an evening. Other than that, ok

I have always meant to sit down and write this review and I’m going to do it today. I miss Guelph… but I miss Spice 11 more. Every time I go back to visit Guelph, I make sure I visit this place(and order take-outs for later to bring back to Toronto)! Yes, it’s THAT good. My ultimate favourite dishes are the butter chicken and the saag paneer. The butter chicken is a bit spicy but the sauce is delicious. They also give generous amounts of chicken. But my most favourite all time dish ever is the saag paneer. Their paneer is unreal from the texture to the taste to the size of that cheese. I love love LOVE that dish. They also have an appetizer on a hot plate, that is cubes of paneer. However they make that paneer, they’ve completely nailed it because I have NEVER been able to taste such good paneer anywhere else. What’s also delicious is their samosas. They have two different spices for you to dip in — one a green yogurt like dip and a more spicy dip. Both dips are delicious. Samosas are a good size and I believe they come in two — so you can definitely share it with a friend. But I highly highly recommend their paneer. My mouth waters just thinking about it and makes me miss Guelph even more. Next time I go, I will definitely have to stop by and get myself some of that delicious goodness!!! Service wise — it’s pretty good — food comes pretty fast and the staff are definitely very friendly — part of Guelph hospitality in general :). If you are a student, which sadly, I am no longer, you get a discount so be sure to whip out those student cards! Ambiance is nothing too fancy but the good food trumps all!

Yum, yum, yum! We love the many vegetarian dishes at Spice11! The service and interior are pleasant and we are consistently pleased with the taste and quality. The lunch buffet is an affordable way to try various things and is about ½ meat and ½ vegetarian. We’ve also been for dinner and enjoyed the table service every time. The naan is delicious and I’m fond of ordering the bread basket and taking home whatever bread we don’t finish. Toast up the fruit stuffed bread later on and add a little honey, it’s delicious! They also offer take-out and delivery around Guelph. Restrooms are clean and located on the middle of main floor, so they’re easy to get to. Seating is tables and chairs without arms. Parking is available on the street or in the lot for the mall across the street. I’ve seen signs saying that they validate parking during dinner hours, but I haven’t used that service yet.

Super great! I highly recommend the chicken dansak! The buffet isn’t as good as the dinner menu, but it’s still pretty good and well worth the price! Friendly staff too!

Went here with my colleague who is a local. She knew I had just gone to India so was anxious to hear about my opinion… The verdict — good indian food! We had samosas which were really good. Crispy shell and soft curried potatoes. For my main entrée I had the chicken vindaloo. I was warned it was going to be spicy — it had heat but nothing that I can’t handle. The naan was fresh and soft. Great meal not the best Indian meal I’ve had but then again my standards are a little biased =) I would definitely recommend the food. Atmosphere was a little lacking.
