Incredible service. Brought my bike in this morning for a tune-up and safety check, as it had been a while since my last one. I was on an emergency deadline, and desparately needed the bike ready that same day for an out of town friend that asked to borrow it. With less than 2 hrs notice, they turned my bike around despite a busy schedule with other repairs, and improved some annoyances that I had long been living with. In addition, I greatly appreciated the helpful information they shared about my particular bike, and the care and attention they showed above and beyond the general tune up. Posting reviews is not a habit of mine, however I was so impressed with the service, and extra effort, it felt necessary. I will be referring to others! Thanks again Bikes by Dave!

Used to be a big fan until they worked me into buying stuff I didn’t need and didn’t fix my problem and instead, made it worse. Last time I went in my brakes were squealing(as they have been since Day 1 when I bought my bike here…) and under-powered and not stopping me fast enough on the many hills on my treacherous daily bike to work from Clayton Park to Woodside. I was talked into buying some parts on top of the tuneup I needed in order to stop my gears from getting stuck or jumping, and get my brakes back to fully functioning. I was told my rear sprocket needed replacing as the gear teeth were wearing down. 140 $ later, my gears still jump/skip, and on my bike home, my brakes were not tightened after they were aligned so they were resting and grinding on the disc within 20 minutes of leaving and I was now without any brakes and had to call my girlfriend to rescue me. I ended up reading the manual for my disc brakes and fixing them again myself. I will have to take it somewhere else to figure out why the gear shifting is still not functioning properly. My bicycle is my car. If I was going down the top of Main St. on my way to work in the morning and I had blindly trusted BBD’s handywork I would of had no brakes and DIED and it would have been Dave’s fault 100%. If you value your bicycle or life, please go somewhere else.

Dave’s is a friendly place to visit for help, repairs, upgrades or to buy a new bike. With a good selection of stock Dave caters more to the average biker then the high performance rider. If you are looking for an affordable but quality ride that you’ll be able to enjoy for a long time then Dave’s is a great place to look. Update: I recently bought an item to transport my bikes. The front fork is supposed to fit over it and it uses a quick release to hold the bike in place. My road bike’s fork did not fit over it. I called Dave to ask for advice and was told to bring it in. He kept telling me there was nothing wrong with the product — that it was my fork. There is nothing wrong with my fork I had measured it carefully with calipers and its fine not«crushed» as Dave suggested. I have also used two different front wheels in it with no issue. I think the forks on my bike just have less clearance then many forks out there and so it didn’t work well with the product. He then forced my fork onto it and cinched it on. At this point I just wanted to get away from the situation so I left. Unfortunately Dave hadn’t tightened the quick release very tight and the bike came out of the holder on my way back to work. My bikes paint job got pretty banged up, and it wasn’t very safe for me sitting in front of a loose bike in my trunk/back seat. I have generally found Dave’s to be a good place to go, but this has changed my mind. I didn’t feel like he cared much about me or my bike. He seemed to be looking to place blame on my bike rather then just see that the products weren’t working well together. All I really wanted to know was if he had another option for me. If he didn’t I just planned on machining the product I bought to work with my forks. Instead Dave forced things without asking me if I minded, or if I wanted him to. He didn’t really seem to be interested in listening to me to be honest. Maybe it was the heat, maybe he had things on his mind, regardless the damage to my bike was serious enough that I will not be going back to Bikes by Dave.

This past week I headed into Dave’s aware that my tires were in painful need of an air refill. While Dave’s fix it guys pumped up my tires, Dave walked me through the shop letting me know about some of the options I could mule over in terms of upgrades to my current old beast. A wealth of info from this kind bike guru who didn’t make me feel like a fool for riding such a beater and having not much of a clue in terms of bikes in general. «No charge for air!» Dave happily called out as I inquired about tune up costs so that was nice as well.

Bikes by Dave used to be on Windsor Street for 13 years until their recent move to Youg Street, which Dave says has not had any negative effect on their business at all. Not surprising, because I’m sure their loyal clientele would find them, no matter where they went, but it’s only a block away. The shop sells and repairs all types of bicycles, and will even do unusual jobs. For example, I had a 4-wheeled walker that my mother used to use that had worn out hand-brakes, and they fixed those up for me, no problem. Dave and Cassie(who are a team inside and outside the shop) share the shop with their friendly greyhound, Leo. Great local business, reasonable prices, super friendly folks.
