By far one of the best burger places in Hali, imma little late on the review! Been there twice in two weeks here’s what I had! Hen Den! Yup! Turkey Cran! Yup! DARRELL FRIES! YUPPPPP! The fries here are the best in the city hands down! With a side of the Cajun mayo for dippin can’t go wrong! If I had to make one adjustment I’d want my egg over easy! Other then that A1!

Love the milkshakes and the food!

I had the breakfast burger thing (Big Hen? I forgot) and it was delicious. There are a lot of different options to try and the shop itself has a cult following for its interesting combinations.
Service was excellent, as usual. Just the right balance of checking up on us and leaving us undisturbed (if you can’t tell I’m not a fan of super chatty waiters).
I had a side garden salad with my burger that was flavourful and full of veggies. The dressing was delicious (honey mustard) and the lettuce was crisp and fresh.
I had coffee on this particular occasion, but the milkshakes here are TO DIE for. Hello, Oreo milkshake, why can’t I have you? Blast you, diet. Sigh.
It was a bit expensive for $ 22 but I think it’s worth it for the size of the burger, the unique variety, university friendly location and excellent service. Make it a treat.

I’ve only tried their signature Peanut Butter Burger and their shakes, hands down the best burger and shakes in Halifax. This place is a nice gem in South End. Staff is friendly, good seating area and nice atmosphere. They’re always packed for weekend brunch, so come early to not be disappointed. Portion size is huge and their signature Darrell’s fries are amazing. Price is not cheap, but definitely wroth every penny.

If you’re a burger fan you gotta try Darrell’s. Been here multiple times and the staff have always been friendly and accommodating.

came here with a buddy for lunch. it was quite busy and we had to wait in line for a table. once we sat down the staff was very friendly and the service was great. our waiter was kind and very efficient despite how busy it was in the restaurant. the wait for food wasn’t very long, the milkshakes came out immediately. we shared a burger and got 2 milkshakes. perfect comfort food. fries were to die for and the milkshakes were insane. would definitely would back; darell’s would be great exam food for 12hour study days

Ate here during a recent trip to Halifax. Really felt like we found a local favorite. The place was packed and we were lucky to get a seat pretty quickly. The menu offers lots of choices and they also have a big black board on the wall where they advertise their specials. I chose the peanut butter burger with Darrel fries and really liked it. The peanut butter is subtle but really works, especially with the saltiness of the bacon. The portions were good and we enjoyed a pint of beer with our meal as well. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun casual meal off the beaten path.

We went here twice on holiday for a milkshake pit stop. Delicious Vanilla Peanut Butter milkshake — really thick and extra on the side just like a traditional diner. The place is famous for its Peanut Butter burger but we didn’t try this. We did, however, try the Darrell’s fries, which are wedges, the sweet potato fries and deep fried mozza sticks — all were delicious and great value. The staff are cheery and the place has a relaxed, hipster vibe with outdoor decked seating. Definitely would recommend a trip here for a diner lunch!

Darryls was a neat experience. Who would ever have thought of a peanut butter burger! It was excellent. The staff were also quite friendly

Delicious food and amazing service every time. I work near here so I eat here a couple times a month at least. The staff are always friendly and I have never had a bad meal. The peanut butter burger with sweet potato fries is my favourite meal, but all of their burgers are delicious as well as their wraps. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t eaten here before :) regular lunch time and supper time can be pretty busy, especially once the balcony is closed for the season, but even if you aren’t seated right away the wait is never long and is well worth it :)

I’d really give here a 3.5. Angry at myself for not trying here in all the years that I’ve lived in Halifax off and on. Knew about the place, but figured it was just a tiny burger joint, so I was never enthusiastic about checking it out. After going for a nice walk in Point Pleasant Park on a very nice, sunny evening in early October, my partner and I swung by for something light. Small patio outside with a few tables, several more inside (although the place is physically pretty small), there’s also a whole other room downstairs. Didn’t expect it to be a ‘wait to be seated’ kind of place either, but it is, and we were seated in the basement. There are maybe a dozen tables down there and a large bar area. It’s very casual overall, fine for families. There was one crying baby near our table, but luckily that didn’t last long. Our server, Hannah, was very friendly. Pretty big menu with something for everyone. I tried their veggie burger (11.59 Another Coast «Best of Food» Award Winner. Our 0% beef burger with salsa, Monterey Jack, lettuce, tomato, mayo and jalapeños) with Darrell fries (seasoned potato wedges), both items very good for taste and portion size. The veggie burger itself I found very meat-​like, and one of the best in the city actually. I also opted for a homemade chocolate peanut butter milkshake (5.49), which was delicious and filling, but not TOO filling (ie I was able to finish my meal still). While waiting for this to arrive, Hannah came over to our table with a frozen strawberry margarita that someone had made by mistake, to ask if we wanted it. Joy! We shared it and it was great. My partner really enjoyed his M.O.B. Salad (crisp romaine, tomato wedges, grated carrot, mozzarella and cheddar, roasted chicken, mandarin oranges, a splash of alfalfa sprouts, a sprinkle of almonds and a drizzle of creamy honey-​dijon dressing… sounds like poetry, tastes like a best seller!). My second visit here was on a drizzly fall night with a Meetup group that had plans afterwards in the neighborhood, so they opted to make this the spot to eat first. I tried the 3 Cheese Vegeterian Lasagna (pasta layered with Italian tomato sauce, a three cheese blend, sautéed spinach, peppers & onions with your choice of caesar salad or garlic toast. 11.89). It was decent, nothing memorable, but good for the price as I was too full to finish it. I look forward to going back here sometime to try a few other things on the menu, and if the weather permits, sit outside.

Thanks to McDonald’s expectations for good food has gone way down hill. Don’t get me wrong here Darrell’s is better than McDonalds but the bland food they have been serving (McDonald’s) for the better part of 3 decades makes average at best food seem amazing.

Went here on my lunch a couple of days ago. Great services. Waiter was super nice and we got our food is great time to be able to be back to work on time. I had the nacho burger which was great. Really tasted like a nacho. The only thing I really had a problem with was I felt the patty was under seasoned. It had no salt or pepper on it. Darrell fries were amazing!

For this visit I tried their Peanut Butter Burger.
I know I might get some flack from this review, and that’s ok. This burger is an acquired taste, and I know many people love it, but I unfortunately am not a huge fan of this particular one. I do urge people to go and try this burger though and form your own opinion of it. Just because this burger isn’t for me personally doesn’t mean that it can’t be your new favourite burger, and if you don’t want to go for the burger, at least go for the fries (and the super delicious milkshakes!).

My first experience with Darrell’s was burger week. A burger with peanut butter and bacon on top for just $ 5, how could it go wrong? The burger and hype did not disappoint. The Peanut butter burger was more than I expected; it was better. Prepare to get a little messy and the peanut buttery goodness drizzles down your hands. And of course I could not just get plain olé’ fries, I got the Darrell’s fries, and they were such a compliment to the burger.
The whole menu sounds great, but I haven’t been able to bring myself to order something different. Every time we’re there, the service is great, and I haven’t had a long wait time for my food.

I visited Darrell’s last May 22^nd. It is a small place but the food was great. I ordered Peanut Butter Burger and potato wedges. The first thing I noticed was there was this weird smell at the restaurant and I’m not sure what was it. Maybe a dirty rag or mop nearby, I don’t know or the tables I guess. And there was this employee who threw the garbage out passing the dining area. I was not happy. Take note they used a transparent bag for the garbage. I wanted to give 4 stars because the food I ordered was so awesome. Peanut Butter Burger is a must try for everyone visiting or living in Halifax NS! The burger was filling that I was not able to finish it and the fries.
Oh, there was a beautiful server there but the skirt she was wearing is too short that her underwear was peeking. I hope she would get to wear a decent work clothes next time.

I love Darrell’s. I can’t help it. The peanut butter burger, the milkshakes, the Darrell fries, the crossandwich I can’t help myself. I bet if I could branch out from these staples Id love other things too. Lots of booth seating? My favourite! No room upstairs? No problem, they have a lower level! They have a half off burger deal. (buy one get one half off on Monday or Tuesday?) You can’t beat that.
I have one negative comment. Their side salad is garbage. It’s chopped up so fine it might as well be bruschetta. Some people might like that, but if you don’t want say… Tomatoes in your salad your out of luck. Chopped up too fine to pick out. I’ve learned from my mistakes. Luckily the Darrel fries have forgiven me and let me come back. I will never chose another over those tasty little wedges again!
Point is: the food is kick butt. If you haven’t been. You have to go.

Great burger place, excellent for a quick bit to eat. Always smiling, always kind.
