Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? After reading all the positive reviews I was disappointed with what I got for more than $ 10(after tax). I ordered #4 curry chicken. It was a letdown. The curry was uninspiring, the chicken was bland, and the rice was mushy. The only redeeming feature on my plate was the spring roll. It was crispy on the outside and seasoned properly on the inside. The line was not long(2 people in front of me) but it took a good 20 minutes before my food was ready. Will I return again? Maybe for the spring rolls, but not much else.

Meeting a friend for a movie, I arrived early so that I could eat at Just Spring Roll. Located by the elevators on the bottom floor of Park Lane, between the Cineplex and A&W, if you’re anything like me you’ll probably recognize it as a place you’ve seen a lot when going to the movies but hardly, if ever, visited. I’ve been there a couple of times to get some cans of fantastic jasmine tea, and once before to eat, but alas, I didn’t take any notes for a review. Luckily, this time I was planning ahead. Thanks to the mysterious ways in which Halifax Transit works(or doesn’t), I nearly pulled a jerk customer move, arriving about 30 minutes before they were set to close. Nonetheless, the two ladies working the counter and kitchen were all smiles and really friendly. While their menu is pretty compact, it isn’t literally *just* spring rolls. There’s about six options, including curries, pad Thai, stir fries and of course the namesake spring rolls. I went with the pad Thai, meat spring roll and a drink, which all came to a very reasonable $ 9.50. Asked if I wanted it spicy, I gave them a confident ‘Yes!’ and expected a good seasoning of the sriracha bottles on the back counter. I sat down at one of their handful of tables, and in a matter of minutes my heaping plate of noodles and deliciousness were brought out to me. This generous portion of pad Thai had strips of tofu, bits of egg, cabbage and peanuts. I was glad to see that it was garnished with a sprig of cilantro on top so that I could choose how much I put in the dish, but was a little disappointed that there were no bean sprouts. I love those things! The noodles had a really good consistency; not too firm, and not cooked to mush. Also, I hate it when pad Thais are a mass of congealed noodles or the noodles are cut too short and are hard to manage. There was a good sized red halo of sriracha squirted on top which gave a respectable garlicky spice to the dish, but you could still taste that hint of sweetness from the regular pad Thai sauce. The tofu was tender and not at all rubbery and absorbed all the flavours of the dish quite nicely. My spring roll was a lovely golden brown and noticeably had some weight to it when I picked it up. The wrapper was nice and crisp, while the filling was packed with juicy pork and cabbage, and a couple other julienned veggies. My mind wasn’t blown, but it was a solid spring roll. I’ve always been impressed that Just Spring Roll has been able to stay open in a less than spectacular location, but they may be killing it with the lunch crowds that I never get to see. If you’re coming to an early show movie, I definitely suggest stopping by. You’ll get a filling, satisfying meal for half the price of a popcorn and pop. Or just stop by if you’re in the neighborhood. Or just go there. Just go there.

Kinda popped in by accident but had heard they offered vegan food. The owner was super friendly and informative about their vegan options. We ordered 2 of their vegetable, tofu and noodle plates and a few spring rolls. The service was prompt and really friendly. Prices were reasonable and the food was amazing! Probably some of the best vegan-friendly food I’ve had in quite sometime. Best springrolls in town for sure!

Excellent!!! My two girls and I ate there and the 9 year old said«this is real food». It was delicious, not too salty and fresh veggies. Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants real food :). Loved it! And… owner gave my girls a chocolate each before we left. Very considerate and kind. Thank you!

I absolutely ADORE Just Spring Roll Thai! It’s a very small little restaurant tucked behind the escalator in Park Lane Mall but it has the most delicious Thai food I’ve tried in Halifax. They have a list of their daily specials which often include stir-fry, vegetable curry and Thai fried rice. I’ve tried many items on the menu and they are all very tasty and a good value. My favorite Thai dish here is Pad Thai, hands down. Nothing beats the combination of rice noodles, egg, tofu, peanuts, sprouts and spicy sauce made fresh and served piping hot with a crispy spring roll(or two) on the side. I know that I can enjoy my fave lunch, served just the way I like it for 11 buckaroos. Best Thai food in the city as far as this Unilocaler is concerned. Highly recommended.

Fresh, made to order, authentic Vietnamese food buried deep in the bowels of Park Lane. It’s not somewhere I’d make a special trip for, but it’s a good, solid option if you’re in the neighbourhood. The price is right, too.

Why has nobody written a review of this place? Also, why have I not been to Just Spring Roll in the last two years?! I’m a huge fan of delicious food court food, mostly because it’s rare, and well, cheap and tasty. Time was of the essence yet again today, and my master plan was to boot it down to Park Lane and shovel as much Just Springroll food into my maw as possible before seeing Hobo with a Shotgun. I hoped to hell JSR was open, as sometimes it’s inexplicably closed(website says«Hours subject to change based on demand”– which makes sense). Although the lady was on the phone for a bit when we got there, she beckoned for another fantastic lady to help us. I ordered combo #5(not Mambo #5) for $ 6.99 and two meaty spring rolls($ 1.50 each) for my gent. With a generous scoop of rice from the ricecooker(I’m a sucker for rice cooked in a rice cooker) and a few minutes wait, my curry complete with small triangles of tofu), vegetable stir fry and spring roll were in my eager hands. I was asked if I wanted it spicy. In fact I was asked several times, probably trying to judge my eagerness for wild amounts of Sriracha to be squirted on my food. I nodded yes, excitedly each time, and she went for it. Squirt. Squirt. Squirt. Now my combo #5 was«spicy!» It’s probably been a long time since I’ve scarfed a meal like I was made to scarf it today(movie in 5 minutes!), but enjoyed every hasty mouthful. Can’t wait to return and savour the meal a little more the next time. Next time, I’ll get mine to go and sneak it into the theatre! If you’re on your way to see a flick at Park Lane, take a look behind the escalator(where the adorably-named Just Spring Roll is hidden) and hook yourself up with some hot n’ tasty Vietnamese goodness.
