This is my go to place for great honey garlic ribs. The sweet n sour chicken balls and chow mein are also favs of mine. My Toronto gf has been trying to find good phở since moving down here and this is about as close as she’s found to the real deal. Great flavor but the beef is cooked so it’s often a bit overcooked from sitting in the soup for a few minutes. If you order the phở, eat it there. Excellent service for a mom and pop shop.

Food is so so and the service sucks. Went twice and will never go back. If you want excellent food and friendly fast service go to HENGFUNGS. been there many times and perfect every time.

I love this place! Their #14 is so simple, but so delicious. Small spot, but worth the trip.

The location food here is fantastic in my opinion. Fresh oil for when they deep fry certain dishes. They have a wide variety of food here. The phở and rice vermicelli dishes are very well done. There is plenty of places to sit. The time from ordering your food to receiving is not too long. The staff are very friendly and I always love returning here. The price is very reasonable and give them two thumbs up. The only downside in my opinion is that it is located in Dartmouth and living in Halifax it is a bit of a commute. Awesome food, awesome staff and awesome atmosphere.

me + gf love this place. you get a hearty Asian-style soup and egg rolls. I mention the egg rolls because last time I was there, they had a special, 5 egg rolls for $ 5 or something. so between that and the beef phở, it was a pretty hearty meal. everything tasted great. the lady who served us was very upbeat and friendly. we’ll be going back there next date night.

I’ve been eating Phở for years. My co-workers are Vietnamese and we’ve eaten in some of the best Vietnamese restaurants in countless cities across the U.S. and Canada. Reading the reviews of Phở Hoang Minh, I expected much better than what I had tonight. I ordered my favorite dish, Phở Bo Vien, phở with meatballs. It’s a great dish to get a good sense of a phở joint. If it’s good, it’ll be served boiling hot with big meatballs that almost pop with freshness when you bite into them. It’ll come with a big plate of fresh bean sprouts, onions, greens, mint leaves, and slices of lime. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. I should have known when I asked for«Phở Bo Vien» and the waitress didn’t understand. Nearly 45 minutes later(yes, that’s right…45 minutes later) she brought a sad bowl of fairly tasteless soup with a plate of sad sprouts, tasteless meatballs, and wilted old limp mint leaves. My wife had a plate of Vietnamese vegetables that were«average», which is why I’m leaving 2 stars. But the phở was nothing special. Disappointing.

I finally had the chance to go to this place, but I took the food to go instead of eating in. Phô was really good & I highly recommend. The interior is very plain & it was a little too quiet inside, some sort of background noise would make it feel a little better in my opinion. I plan on ordering out in the future from here, eating in probably not.

Great Vietnamese place discovered on Unilocal.4 stars? Of course I’m game for dinner! It was a short walk from my hotel the Holiday Inn which was perfect as I like to go for walks in the evening! Located near the corner of a plaza strip mall just behind the Esso gas station with decent amount of parking. Here’s the scoop on the food. Delicious authentic soup with noodles served in huge bowls with a rice broth that has no discernible taste of MSG nor too much salt. It was phở real my friends! The real deal. I was having trouble to decide between the soup or just a bun noodles. Looking around at neighbouring tables everyone had a big bowl of phở. Lots of patrons were coming in to pick up some takeout(definitely a sign of a good resto). With this, I ordered two spring rolls which were huge big and filled with a nice mix of cabbage plus some ground pork. Crunchy and good dipped in the nuoc mam sauce. They were a bit oily but tasty none the less. To wash it all down was a nice refreshing jackfruit shake that was creamy, not too sweet and just the nice added touch. Talking with the people working there they were Chinese owners. Very pleasant and courteous. Food was inexpensive and a place solid enough to return. Come check it out if noodles and Asian food is your game.

One of the only reasons I miss living in this part of town, always quick and delicious, I have only ever had their deliver so I cannot speak to the service inside, however on the phone and the delivery person are always very personable.

Upon seeing the good reviews, I entered the restaurant with my hope of the having to taste delicious phở I’ve been missing out since I came to Cape Breton from Vancouver. There were only 3 different types of beef rice noodle soup but I didn’t let that bother me. It was a $ 10 phở with 3~4 chips of beef, and«one» 4 cm long flank beef which was 2 cm wide. Although they had about 5 – 6 Meatballs, their size were tiny. Not only I found it hard to call it the«beef» noodle soup, they had their rice noodle pre mixed with bean sprouts which made the rice noodle portion rather small! The service wasn’t the greatest either. The man who took the order was rather curt and I felt they only started to pay attention to our table as we were nearly finishing our food!

Our first time in here. As a few reviewers have mentioned the service was a little lacking. Not that the server was rude, just to the point. Very sweet however and polite. My wife and i ordered the Phở and my mum had vermicelli noodles. The phở was terrific. We’re no experts, we have only eaten phở twice before. Once in London and once at Star Anise. The phở here was as good, if not better. Phở Hoang Minh will become a regular on our restaurant list.

My first Phở in Halifax since we moved here 9 months ago from western Canada. Phở Hoang Minh didn’t disappoint. I ordered Phở #8. The broth was light and smooth. It didn’t give me the«MSG thirst» afterwards so I presume they didn’t add any or very little of it. The beef slices were thicker than I’m used to but tender enough to eat. I enjoyed adding in the usual companies to Phở, the basil leaves, lime, and bean sprouts. Price is very affordable. It looks like it’s a bit cheaper than those Phở restaurants on Halifax side(I’ve checked out a few menus online already.) Looking around most customers ordered something deep fried on their plate. If you like deep fried this is definitely the place for you. If I really have to be picky, I’d pick on their deep fried egg rolls. It’s big but it’s not Vietnamese. It’s filled with cabbage, and no authentic Vietnamese egg rolls would use cabbage as filling.

Amazing. This is the best Asian food I’ve had in years. Finally I’ve found a place to go in Dartmouth. Service was very friendly and fast. Food was fresh and crisp. Awesome prices and the place was very clean. The neighbourhood is alitle sketchy but the food is definitely worth a trip.

I take Ben’s recommendations very seriously. So when he gave this place and the vermicelli bowl a 5⁄5 — well, I didn’t even think to look at the menu. I walked in and that’s exactly what I ordered. Bam! Go Ben! Anyways, went in for lunch and man is it ever a mom n’ pop shop. Which is great! There were about a dozen tables and only 3 or 4 of them had people in them — including me. That was when I showed up which was shortly after noon. By the time I was done eating all tables were filled and there were people waiting to be seated! Hot spot! I ordered the vermicelli bowl with two spring rolls and was surprised at the portion they gave me — I popped a piece of a spring roll into my mouth and immediately regretted it. It must’ve just came out of the fryer as I burned my mouth. :( This was my first time hving vietnamese food — so I wasn’t sure what I should do with the bowl of noodles, the vegetables, the spring rolls and the sauce. At first, I was just kind of eating each section on it’s own, which was okay. But then, I just mixed everything together and it tasted soooo much better. The noodles are really light but I probably could’ve stopped eating ¾ through the meal — but I kept on and finished the whole thing. Felt like I was gonna go into a food coma at the time. Service was good — but I could tell they were a bit overwhelmed so no points off that. Definitely wanna go back and actually look at their menu. And it’s not too expensive either — with tip and tax ~ $ 12

I recently started working in Dartmouth and this has become my go-to favourite spot. I always order the #15, noodles with grilled pork, spring roll and veggies. It’s so simple, yet so satisfying. The dumplings are also very tasty. Fast service, inexpensive and large portions. Everything this girl wants in a restaurant experience.

My sister and I go here maybe once a month for our catch-up dinner and we’re always impressed. We always get a pot of jasmine tea — so good. We’ve never ever been disappointed with service or food. It’s one of our faves.

I’m trying to think why I would give them less than 5star and I have to say — NOPE; nothing. Yes the place is small and the pick up for Take-out is not defined(haha) but it is great food and fabulous prices. I had not been for some years and went about a month ago. Since then I’ve been 3times and I love it still and maybe more. I have gotten into an «always order» with the Rice Noodles & Egg Noodles with BBQ Pork & Shrimp as my go-to meal. I just cannot get enough. I have tried to look it up to replicate but so far not able. Service is good especially considering the lunch crowd and the small space but I’ve never had need to complain. Try them and you will keep coming back.

We have been eating the Phở here for the last 5 years and have never had a back experience. It’s always fresh, hot, and home made. You wouldn’t think that they could do a noodle soup for take out, but they do it very well! The rest of their menu is great, lots of choice, and always home made. No pre made sauce here! They are super friendly and as we became regulars all we had to do was say our name and they knew our order.

This place has by far the best phở soup I have tasted in HRM. They serve a variety of food ranging from traditional Vietnamese to classic Chinese combination plates. I have never had to wait very long(even with a full dining room) and they are always friendly.

A vermicelli bowl with veggie spring rolls chopped up on top has got to be one of my favourite go-to lunch meals ever since my dad brought me to Gingergrass for the first time quite a few years ago now. You get the carby satisfaction of noodles without getting weighed down, you get vegetables without feeling like you’ve had a salad, and you get the naughty ‘I’m eating something deep-fried’ flush thanks to the spring rolls. Pretty close to the perfect meal in my books. I’ve had this dish at Gingergrass and at Fong Sing, but my visit to Phở Hoang Minh(or PHM, as I’m calling it since I can only pronounce one of those words) for lunch yesterday just cinched the top slot in my books. Despite being hungry enough to eat a party platter of fried food, this massive portion left me stuff with plenty still in the bowl by the time I tapped out. The fact that the dish comes already with two spring rolls(instead of having to combine two orders at Fong Sing) of a more-than-healthy size(compared to the smaller ones at Gingergrass) and that there’s no confusion over subbing in veggie ones instead of the standard meat versions makes it an instant win. Then, of course, comes the fact that it only cost me $ 8… The place is cuter on the inside than you’d expect so don’t be deterred by its strip mall status and the service was lovely. Despite just one server working the entire floor during the busy lunch rush(including tons of takeout orders), she was hustling through with ease and a smile at all times. Just lovely!
