Checked out OBB after reading reviews and enduring some lack lustre cuts elsewhere. I booked with Michael and was very impressed. I often find it hard to describe in words what I want but he asked questions and did an amazing job. He made sure I was okay with everything along the way. I’m not much of a chatter and he seemed happy to work on my hair in silence. I was very impressed with his work and feel I’ve finally had my hair cut well for the first time in a long while. I know I’ll be a repeat client.

One Block Barber shop is great, on the surface. Hardly a barber shop, OBB provides a great atmosphere and customer service. Unfortunately the cut itself was completely dissapointing. I’m not sure what went wrong, but after a rather successful first visit I was inclined to return. After all, the head and neck massage, and warm towel treatment was a nice change of pace from the typical ‘barber shop’ visit. However, upon returning home and showering to remove the product the stylist used I found tufts of uncut hair and the top looked like it was cut with an old style rotary lawn mower. No amount of primping or extras makes up for a bad cut, especially a pricey one. Needless to say, my next cut was purchased elsewhere and when the barber asked if I had cut my own hair I replied, «No, but it would have saved me 35 bucks».

You know that feeling when your hairdresser of YEARS moves away… yes, that one! You feel like it’s the first day of school in a brand new place… who do you trust? who do you sit with at lunch? who won’t steal your lunch money? Ok, ok… maybe a bit of an exaggeration but for me, I was clueless as to where to go! Luckily, someone I know just recommended One Block and I called on a Tuesday, got in on a Thursday. Quick, easy and no hassle. Robyn was my stylist and I was slightly skeptical, as I am not what you might call«cool» or «hip» and from all the word of mouth reviews, this was the newest and hippest place to go! I explained to Robyn some of my ideas of what I wanted and she took that and ran(not with her scissors, don’t worry!) She explained what she thinks would work best while incorporating my own request! That along with the amazing Aveda products and scalp massage created an amazing and relaxing time. I didn’t think it was unreasonably priced, as you are there more for the EXPERIENCE than just a cut or colour. I have always gone to salons, so I expect to spend a certain amount, and not always is it worth it. This was most definitely worth it! The only thing that may be hard for some to swallow is the slightly«hipster» feel. They may be the coolest shop in town, but they still welcome you and make sure you enjoy yourself as well as having a great deal of pride in their work. As a walking billboard of their talents, they want everyone to be happy and look great!(they also are amazing at unique haircuts which include shaving and straight sharp lines… if you can pull it off!) Now that I know how great they are, I will for sure be back. And if you just recently had your stylist move or are looking for a new place, that is as cool and they are talented, then look no further!

Always an excellent experience. Chill, great stylists, good atmosphere. The hot towels are always welcome. I tried it because it was close to my work. I’m glad I did, my hair thanked me for it. If you’re looking to try somebody new, I recommend it.

I recently had my hair cut by Robyn, and it was a great experience. She was able to interpret exactly what I wanted for my hair cut, and then do it better than I could have imagined it. The hair cuts start with a head and shoulders massage, which typically wouldn’t be my thing but it was pretty magical. I have super long hair, and for a wash + cut it came to about $ 53, which I found to be a decent price for such a great job. I also thought it was pretty rad that they have a selection of zines on the table as you come in rather than a stack of cliché hair magazines, and I liked the overall vibe of the space.

I have long curly hair. This can prove difficult when I’m trying to find somewhere for a trim and style. Typically«Barbershop» means short hair cuts to me, no appointments and quick service. Apparently I made the wrong assumptions. OBB does do appointments, and they do do long hair, including long curly hair like mine very well. I had expert styling and advice on my curls. Got it all loosely brushed out for an even trim and then washed and curled so the curls got individual trim ups all around. I left happy and feeling great about my hair for another couple of months. Don’t let the«Barbershop» label fool you, if you’re looking for great style and expert hair treatment(even with curls) give them a call and get your hair love from OBB. One thing I didn’t make an assumption about when it comes to barbershops is the price. You get Aveda spa service for a discount on spa pricing. For my wash and style it was only 36 bucks. I will definitely be making a return with my curls.

I’ve been in to see Robyn twice so far, and will be back again and again. I wanted a very extreme short cut from my long hair, and after browsing through her blog photos of haircuts she’d done, I was confident she was the person who could do it right. She definitely delivered! I had some idea what I wanted, and she made some suggestions as well, taking care to ask me questions and find a cut my hair would hold. I loved it! The space is great, and both Robyn and Michael are professional and pleasant.

This is the best haircut experience I’ve had! I’m serious, and I’ve tried out several similar places in Montréal and NYC. Michael took a lot of time to look at my face and at how my hair grows. I don’t know if it’s the lighting or what, but I felt much less ugly than i usually do at a hair salon. Amazingly, I looked and felt like my normal self and he designed a beautiful cut that worked so well for me and grew out nicely. Plus he asked lots of questions and made sure he knew what I wanted. THEKICKER: it was mostly a bang cut in the end, because I’m trying to grow out the rest, but he didn’t charge me anything! And he also showed me how to make my medium-length hair into a fancy updo for a gala. Free. I’ve heard that it’s not expensive normally — $ 35 maybe? — but yeah, extra-good price when I went, and extra nice person.

One Block is so fabulous! Michael is one of the most talented stylists I’ve had cut my hair in a long time — he’s very thorough in asking how all sorts of questions to ensure your cut compliments you properly. I’ve been very happy with my two cuts so far, and am already looking forward to a third. The space is wonderful, and Michael makes you feel very comfortable from the get go. You’d be silly not to check this place out.
