Sievert’s has the best customer service of any store in Halifax. They try incredibly hard to please you and provide you with information.

Wow. I had no idea this place sold cigars until quite recently, let alone that they had such a wide selection and knowledgable staff. Their prices are great(well, as good as Canadian tobacco prices can be) and their location and staff are completely unpretentious. This is definitely my go-to place for cigars now. I’m very excited to go back.

The new tobacco sales regulations that came in a few years ago stipulate that all tobacco products have to be obscured from the sight of shoppers in the store. This is meant to avoid kids being more likely to smoke due to the ubiquity of tobacco products, which is an admirable goal, but it’s done funny things to this«tobacco shop» on Barrington. The result is a long narrow store with shelves of gift items on the right, display cases of knives, lighters, etc. on the left, and a large amount of shelving that’s been covered, clearly where the forbidden tobacco is stored. Displays in the windows are almost entirely kitsch now, giving little indication that this used to be the type of place where you could enter the walk-in humidor and browse. Now that humidor is off limits, with only staff allowed to access it. Pipes are likewise hidden away in a back room, which I understand least of all. I can imagine shopping for a cigar or cigarettes by name, but it seems to me that you want to look at the pipes, at a number of them, before you buy one. Sievert’s would apparently not be subject to these regulations were it a fully committed«tobacco shop», selling only tobacco products, but the employee I talked to implied that the sale of tourist items, Swiss Army knives and other knick knacks was an important part of the shop’s business. So be it. But I don’t think covering up 60% of the interior shelves has done good things for this place.

The Tobacco experts! This store caters in one of today’s most deadly sins, Tobacco. You can buy special pipes for your Tobacco, cigars and other Tobacco related products. This store really does have everything. And yes, I bought a pipe. It was actually a hand made french pipe that cost me around seventy dollars and was worth it! I love it. Very stylish and sophisticated looking. And I need all the help I can get to look smart these days, believe me.lol. Tobacco is bad for you, I admit. But occasionally I love getting a cigar and smoking it. This store has a small but mighty variety of cigars and they are all very fresh. The staff are very pleasant, relaxed and know their products very well. If you want to know how to smoke from the pipe or smoke a cigar, they are the ones to talk to. Very knowledgeable! I don’t come into this store very often, but when I do its fun to see what products they have and talk to them about their cigar selection. Yes Tobacco is extremely bad for you, but I enjoy it on very rare occasions and I’m grateful Sieverts is there for my rare sin of smoking a cigar or tobacco out of the pipe. If Tobacco is your thing, this is a great place to go!
