I’m not really a fan of Sobeys in general — I find their price point is typically higher than Superstore’s. But I do like this Sobeys — possibly because I rarely shopped for groceries. I would occasionally pick up a few grocery items here after work — it really is quite convenient that this location is so close to a major public transit hub. What drew me in over and over is that for about four months, I worked nearby and would often hit this place up for lunch. Most of the places in the mall were just a bit over-priced whereas Sobeys had lots of good, cheap food. Both of those adjectives are true — it was good and it was also inexpensive. Unless you went overboard on their sushi. The sushi here is pretty good. It was the first time I’ve ever ordered sushi outside of a restaurant and while it wasn’t quite restaurant-quality, it was pretty good. They also have less healthy options such as super-greasy pizza. Of course the greasiness is what drew me in — when I could get some. They were almost always low on slices despite the obvious demand.

Sobey’s is not usually my first stop when it comes to getting my groceries. I find the prices to be a bit higher than Superstore. I do however, really enjoy their cakes. I had a cake made for my son’s birthday and I was pleasantly surprised with the way the cake turned out. I left with a slab cake only costing me $ 35.00. I was quite impressed. I enjoy looking at the Sobey’s weekly flyer. I will always stop in there when they have the buy one, get one free sales on. I got a lot of groceries for free with their last flyer.

I have a special place in my heart for establishments that recognize that not everyone runs on the same clock. People who work back shifts, go out reliably on the town or are just night owls(like myself) all need to do their shopping sometime, why not the middle of the night? Although this Sobey’s location is across town from my house, it’s just down the street from my boyfriend and I’m a frequent late-night customer. There is something relaxing about perusing the aisles in peace and quiet, not having to wait in long check out lines, and never having to count how many items you have, at 3am everyone is an express customer! This Sobey’s is much nicer than the one near my Queen St. apartment and the produce is noticeably fresher. I’ve only had problems picking up carrots here, it seems like they are constantly out of stock, or maybe they are just sold out by the time I get around to doing my grocery shopping, in the dead of night. Hot Hint: This Sobey’s has the widest selection of third party gift cards that I’ve ever seen. Establishments that aren’t even in Nova Scotia have cards available here in many denominations.

This is a pretty decent Sobeys location. While it’s not my number one grocery, it does serve it’s purpose very well. I usually come here when it’s time to pay the power bill as they are one of the closest locations for me to do so. The staff are friendly and usually quite quick at processing my bills. The store is quite large and has everything you would want in a Sobeys store. They also have an NSLC outlet which makes this a pretty decent one stop shop. This store is really very busy early evenings and Saturday morning, so be sure to time your visit carefully if you’re in a hurry. If you need to pay the power company and get some groceries at the same time this is definitely the spot to go!

This Sobeys is actually part of the Halifax Shopping Centre, even though it is across the street. This store is one of the larger ones, with a NSLC attached, a pretty good one actually. Sobeys always has a great grab and go section, I have grabbed many a rotisserie chicken and salad for a quick supper. You will find everything you need here, they have a nice seafood section in the back as well. Prices are great lately. I have to give them a big thank you for not charging for bags. I do own the other ones and try to remember, but sometimes I forget, as I am sure a lot of people. I really do appreciate not having to pay 5 cents per bag. It really is just the principle. .

After being unable to locate the elusive downtown Halifax grocery store I was told about in the first place, and then deciding that Superstore was too far without a car, the friendly bus driver directed me to the Sobeys at the halifax shopping centre. It’s fairly big and had most of the things I was looking for. There were also some surprise dirt cheap sales on random products on the shelves. The staff was helpful in locating stuff, and the person at the deli counter even watched my cart while I was in the washroom. And you can’t beat the location, in terms of closeness to public transportation.
