Went there today with a load of 20 computers. I have been there lots of times and I usually pull up in back and start unloading by the door and usually one of the usually friendly works comes out and opens the door and I help them place the computers inside the bay. Today when I went there the owners son came out and started yelling at us about not coming in to let the workers know. Before we could explain that is what we usually do, he proceeded to call us several bad names. We had already had a few computers unloaded so we decided to pack them up and go somewhere else. The owners son then physically picked up one of the computers and threw it in the back of my vehicle and said good riddance. I work for a local government agency and our whole dept probably disposes of up to a 1000 computers and crts a year and we primaraily use that depot and many of us have decided not to go there any more. This is not the first time someone in our dept has had a run in with this owners son.

Recycling, I think I need to build a shed just to hold all the different bags needed now to separate for recycling. This is a regular thing now and it is in our best interest to take them back. This place is one of the better ones to go to. It is true there is not a lot of friendly talk going on here, it is pretty much a production line. They really do want to people through quick. I am like the rest, I do not count what I take in, so I am going completely on the honour system when I do take them in. Whatever comes back in money, we are happy with.

EnviroDepots are a fact of life for every Nova Scotian. Which one you pick becomes a matter of personal choice, as the reimbursement is the same no matter how near or how far the site is to you. Tanner’s Transfer EnviroDepot is a fairly representative spot, of the genre. We find that the employees are, as a rule, rather taciturn — there’s not too much chatter going on about the weather. They seem fair; although we never count our recyclables before taking them in, we always seem to end up with about what we thought we’d get in return. It can be busy on Saturdays, so go early or late to avoid the crowds. Here’s a hint to my fellow EnviroDepot-ers: the line forms to the rear — don’t try to edge your car in ahead of me!

I know it seems crazy to get excited about a recycling depot, but I am! Tanners is well organized, efficient and open six days a week from 8 – 5(Monday — Saturday). We’ve dropped off computers, a dead TV and other electronic devices. The bins are huge and accessible and there’s always someone around to help with items that are too heavy.
