The Gallery Pub is a great looking venue with fantastic art filled walls, unique painted tables, and a variety of seating options. I love a good booth by the window! There’s also a stage located in the lower level, too. I’ve been looking forward to visiting since I read their menu online last week. They have four vegan options! FOUR !!! A vegan ceaser salad, a multi-veg dish called Vegan’s Passion, a vegan chili, as well as an in-house made bean and tofu burger. The burger has an outstanding variety of topping options which is keeping me excited for my future with Gallery Pub. Today I tried the Ceaser Salad, naturally. Now let’s be real here, this is a ballsy vegan move for a pub-style restaurant. At $ 12.50 for a salad and promises of garlic seared tofu my expectations were obviously heightened. My salad arrived without any dressing on it, which ended up being quite humorous and the kind waiter quickly ushered me up some of their cashew based«ceaser» dressing. This salad certainly IS tasty but is NOT a Ceaser Salad by any shake of the imagination. The croutons are great, the tofu is tasty and has an excellent texture, and the lettuce is classic romaine cut up into small pieces. I appreciated the generous wedge of juicy lemon to squeeze on top, and the presentation was simple and lovely. However, there was a serious lack of anything bacon-y which is disappointing because a) most cheap-o simulated bacon bits are vegan and beyond inexpensive and b) the regular Caeser Salad for non-vegans is only $ 8.50 and comes with local bacon($$$). Also, there was a bunch of oregano sprinkled around the rim of the bowl which added a wonky taste to the salad. My girlfriend tried the Juno’s Poutine and absolutely l-o-v-e-d it to bits! It was only 6 $ and was a small, yet generous size. Just enough to fill you up and leave you feeling satisfied and not stuffed. She said the onions were very flavourful and fresh, and the gravy was so good she could have had it as a soup! Speaking of their soup, try the Tomato Red Pepper and Mango! It will blow your taste buds away! It’s absolutely outrageous in every way. Affordable as a side too at $ 3.50 for a small. The only reason I’m not giving this place 5 stars is because of the weird salad and the absolutely FRIGID atmosphere! Get some space heaters or give me free coffee ;) All in all, I’ll be back and I’ll be making suggestions for your Caeser Salad because not all hope is lost! I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you’re able to catch a live show at the same time.
