What a great spot for finding a unique gift. The staff is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Definitely a great spot to have a party for little ones or grown-ups who want to unleash their inner monkeys.

Okay… from now on, whenever I complain that things in Halifax are too mainstream or run-of-the-mill, I will remind myself of The Monkey Show: a make-your-own sock monkey shop hidden in the same building as Fid on Dresden. It’s a cute, whimsical shop with little sock creatures hanging out all over the walls, tables, shelves, and chairs — all different sizes, shapes, colours, and even wardrobes. When I popped in, two teens were working together, stitching on legs, arms and facial features of their soon-to-be new monkey pet. They seemed pretty focused but were definitely having fun! It works sort of like Build-a-Bear in the mall. You pick the kind of monkey you want to make, pay for the kit which includes all the required materials(you of course get to choose colours and styles as you go), and then you’re off to the races at putting it all together however you like. Although ‘race’ might be misleading as I was told it takes about 2.5 hours from start to finish, less if you work together according to the two people I saw at the operation table. 2.5 hours might be a little much for my attention span although you never know, given the weather lately there might not be a better way to pass the time on another rainy day! Of course, if the long haul doesn’t work for you, you can always just adopt a pre-made chimp and hit the road. Definitely worth checking out for something completely different!
