I came here last year with my friend when she was looking for new glasses. The young man serving us was really kind. I have heard a lot of negative things about this place and the other staff members. Fortunately, we dealt with a really nice guy and we were happy with our glasses and service. Really affordable options and they have a pretty good selection of basic frames.

Wizard Optical is located inside Spring Garden Place, a small business court located on the mezzanine level of the Lord Nelson Hotel. You enter from Spring Garden Road beside the Subway, at the bus stop. Of course, this also means that you need to find parking near Spring Garden Road — your first challenge. Once you clear that hurdle, your next task is to make it to Wizard Optical while they’re actually open. This is harder than you might think: Wizard is not open at all on the weekends, and on only two evenings do they stay open late-ish — until 7pm. If you work on or commute through Spring Garden Road, this might not be an issue for you, but it was for me and my daughter. Because she doesn’t live in Halifax, getting to Wizard during open hours was difficult. The service at Wizard Optical was attentive. If you work for the federal government, Wizard offers package specials and claim that you can pick any frame in the store. We found that there were restrictions, however, which somewhat dampened our enthusiasm. Eventually we settled on a frame, and the order was placed. It seemed to take a while for us to be notified that the glasses had arrived and again we faced the dilemma of how to get there during open hours. This became an issue yet again when the glasses needed fixing. Overall, I give Wizard three stars, because the restricted hours were serious drawbacks for me. If you can access their store, I think you might find that they deserve four stars for service.

I hate shopping for new glasses. Not only are there a million different shapes and sizes to choose from, but you’ve got to keep your budget in mind. Having to wear glasses, and get new ones every now-and-then, can really add up. Luckily, I actually enjoyed my experience at Wizard as I was shopping. As soon as I walked in I was pleasantly greeted by a helper person who stayed with me and pulled out pairs I might like. For the most part they had my style idea down and actually gave me a couple good pairs. Without that worker lady I never would have found my new pairs of glasses. The prices at Wizard are a little better than most. I was able to find a really nice pair for a price that I could afford, which was certainly a load off my mind. Glasses, for those of us who wear them, know how devastating picking the wrong pair can be. Luckily, I found Wizard and now all my glasses worries are gone!

First let me start by saying that my daughter is… frugal…that’s the nice way of saying it. She certainly checks around before shopping, especially for expensive things like glasses and contact lenses. Wizard Optical is her choice and since moving to Halifax, it’s been our place too. Excellent fittings, great selections and a lifetime supply of eyeglass cleaner. Okay the eye glass cleaner doesn’t sound impressive, but it’s just a symbol of the care they give. I’m waiting for cateract surgery so I have to hang on to these glasses for now… which means they’re a little loose and wonky. No problem, a quick visit to tighten and straighten them and all with a smile.
