Love the atmosphere of this place. Perfect for a rainy day study session. Only downside is no refills on coffees :(

Over the past couple years, this has been one of my favourite places in Hamilton. Can’t quite pinpoint what makes this place so unique; if you’ve been there, you’ll understand what I mean Staff are ALWAYS wicked here. Every single visit, I’ve had really helpful and friendly staff, which makes a huge difference in separating a regular cafè from a higher end one. This is somewhere I visit specifically for the service The food is delicioussss. Out of everything they have, my favourite is the apple fritter. Made infront(off to the side) of you, crisp and fresh, as God had intended. I’m not a coffee guy, so I’ll try basically anything on the menu without coffee. Hot coco is pretty tasty. If you haven’t been to this gem, check it out. It caters to all age groups, so It’s good for the whole family. It’s moderately price, but I feel you pay for better products than you would at a Starbucks.

Apple fritters are by far the best around, and it’s a good choice for sandwich for lunch.

I neither like this or dislike it. On entering looking at the most complicated menu I’ve seen written in chalk hung above the cash register. I had the brown dog deli and it was ok but those fritters were decent tho.

Great Locke street venue. I think this was an old church. Really roomy. Lots of wood. A comfy feel. And, yes, this location has their apple fritters. Fuck donuts. And, no, the rest of the food isn’t any better. But, seriously, you come here for the apple fritters and the coffee. Have to deduct a star because this huge place only has one single washroom. There’s an «employee only» washroom right next to it. Which seems cruel when you’re waiting to go.

AMAZING! Its sort of a coffee café with alcoholic beverages. They make the most SPECULAR fritters to order right in front of u. They have apple and Mars bar and banana. The fritters are out of this world!!! They also have their own beer and wine and a huge selection of sandwiched as well as fresh juices and milkshakes. The décor is also very nice and cozy and the food gets brought to ur table. It’s a perfect spot. We r SO coming back here:)

Best coffee shop on Locke. Why you ask? Well, for one, they serve a consistently good cup of coffee, and the staff is always darn friendly. Do you know they have a frittery? I’ll bet you didn’t, otherwise you’d be there right now. That’s right, a vat of hot oil where breaded apples are cooked. They then dust them in cinnamon and sugar. So good. Also, it’s a really cool space, an old church I believe. It would be nice if they could fit a proper patio out front… maybe if we continue to keep buying apple fritters, they will get enough money to build one. I’m eating these fritters for you, so you can someday enjoy a nice patio. You’re welcome.

I have to say that the coffee isn’t bad, but being charged $ 5 for an Americano is what knocks this review down to 2 stars. I don’t know where they got the idea that’s the going rate. Maybe for the best Americano I’ve ever had(Fahrenheit in Toronto) I would fork over five bucks, but certainly not at this place.

A great place on Locke street. A large café with lots of open space, lots of tables and many chairs. Plenty of room to sit. There is also an upstairs with couches. The staff is phenomenal and their coffee is also great. Great selection of food, had a bagel and couldn’t really complain(then again it’s touch to mess up a bagel). Recommend this place! :)

I do like this café, mainly because the staff are very friendly! The coffee is good and the baked goods are very tasty :) I have had a number of savoury meals here and have not really been crazy about any of them. I have heard that their french toast is excellent so I will try that next time! I would give Brown Dog Café 3.5 stars if Unilocal allowed.

First things first, this is a pretty neat coffee shop. The exterior and interior decorations is very rustic with all the wooden accents. Definitely a lot different from all the trendy hipster coffee spots I’ve been to. I ordered a matcha green tea latte and apple fritters, which I heard were the«it» thing to try here. When I said matcha green tea latte, the guy who was helping me stated that that’s not an option many people pick and I was initially worried about how the drink might end up, but it turned out better than expected. You definitely can taste the matcha which didn’t leave a bitter taste like some other places do when not made correctly. It’s also sweet enough to not be too overwhelming. Apple fritters were definitely as everyone stated bombdotcom. They came out hot and fresh. I just wouldn’t eat more than 2 because it is quite sweet and sugary. Overall it was a pleasant experience. I would definitely come again to try their coffees if I’m walking down Locke again.

We’re new to Hamilton and apparently so is this place. We had grilled cheese sandwiches and coffee and they were good and reasonably priced. We had wanted to go to Bread Bar as it was recommended, but there was a 30 min wait and our toddler couldn’t wait that long so we walked North. The décor is cheesy but the place is nice. It’s cool that they’ve got a window so you can watch them making their signature apple fritters(which are delicious). Servers all seemed like Uni students and so did the clientele, lots of laptops and textbooks. Casual, family friendly.
