Nice little place to go on a Sunday afternoon and have something to eat. Was hipster free when I rolled through, but I see this place attracting them in numbers. The young girl behind the counter was a sweetheart, food tasted great and the coffee was nice and strong.

Wow! A café that can pour decent espresso. Harder to find than you may think. Really nice design. European stylings. Friendly staff and yummy little snacks. A bit pricy but feels like a reward.

If this spot were a person, it’s kind of like a sweet old Dutch woman met an NYC hipster and they fused into one person. Maybe that’s a little insane, but I feel it’s highly accurate. And I bet you’ll agree. I’ve worked here a couple times(ideally at those two awesome spots at the front window, with the cheery orange stools and ample people-watching possibilities) and it’s been lovely. Music isn’t too loud or overwhelming, and there are plenty of outlets for our second selves — sorry, I mean our computers. There are some awesome vegan options for both lunch & dessert, and they have both almond milk and soy milk under the counter which is always a nice surprise. Just ask!(The soy milk was a little less smooth than other brands, but it didn’t really ruin my coffee or anything.) Café Oranje is exactly why I’m proud of Hamilton’s coffee scene. They clearly weren’t afraid to change things up for the caffeinated crowds of Hamilton, and I’m so glad they’re offering us this elegant & cheerful Dutch experience!

The coffee here is outstanding. I drink espresso –based coffee(Americano/cappuccino) and Café Oranje probably makes the best Americano in the city. I have had coffee at almost all of the other eminent coffee shops in Hamilton(I.e. Detour, Mulberry st) and Oranje definitely is on par or above. I have had high quality coffee in almost every major city in Canada and if someone asked me for a recommendation in Hamilton I would say Café Oranje. Also, the prices are very reasonable. Finally, the staff are lovely and welcoming. I also get the same sandwich every time. I believe it’s the smoked meat, Apple stroop panini. It is a delicious salty-sweet sandwich that goes very well with coffee. I would not however, opt for their breakfast platter as its a little pricey for some hastily combined items. I am surprised by other less favourable reviews as this Café for me has been consistently above average.

I really wanted to love this place. The décor is gorgeous! Unfortunately, the coffee was awful. The soy milk was, well, I’m not sure, maybe it was off? I had an iced soy latte, which I could not finish because of the taste. My husband had a cappuccino, which was very pretty but tasted very bad. The coffee beans were stored improperly which meant the coffee itself was stale. I wanted so much for Hamilton to have something nice, especially because it’s right next door to an amazing bookstore, but this coffee shop is not it. At least there’s Pinecone Coffee Company now.

I must be missing what other reviewers are saying about this café or maybe I’m a bit more discerning than your average visitor. The coffee here is great. There’s a great vibe from the staff and specialty coffees are poured perfectly with seemingly nothing shy of loving care. The food, however, left much to be desired. Sandwiches, while tasty, were half-filled and didn’t feel worth it. Dutch pastries tasted as though they’d been sitting around a while. The small seating area felt cramped despite not being so; something just didn’t feel right about this place.

Delicious food and super friendly and accommodating staff. I will definitely come back when in town. The pork, Gouda, appelstroop sandwich was great! I’m not a coffee person but the tea options were plenty and yummy. Since it’s quaint, there’s not a lot of seating, so not great for groups, but worth checking out.

This is a coffee lovers coffee shop. Coffee is made with the pour over method in a v60 cone. Brewed to perfection. Lattes had good strong espresso and milk was steamed excellently with perfect microfoam and a flower drawn on top. Incredibly fresh and robust beans from various regions. I got to pick which region I wanted my beans from and there was a careful description of the different qualities of each region. Service was polite and friendly, very quick and prices are cheap. A regular must-stop for those who like their coffee done right and can’t tolerate the Tim hortons style fast food.

Delicious coffee and great service. Good selection of baked goods from the decadent(cinnamon bun) to the«healthy»(protein balls) and a couple gluten free options too. What gets me coming back here is how consistently great they are.

I heartily recommend my Toronto people make a day trip to Hamilton. It’s a whole city on the verge of becoming the new Queen Street/King Street west before The Gap moved in. And Café Oranje is definitely open and a going concern. Strategically placed at one end of the King street strip. A damn fine place to start your journey of Hamilton re-discovery. It’s very Dutch themed, right down to obscure nods like the KLM pottery house collection. The interior is a modern, clean design. There are a number of Dutch coffee styles, some great cinnamon buns with a heavier, doughy texture. One will fill you up quite nicely.
