I’ve been to a few bad restaurants in Hamilton, this is by far, the absolute worst. Besides the fact that the place is old, dated, and tired(and I’m sure the owner is too) the egg salad sandwich I had was pathetic. Even if it only costs $ 4, at least put something between the bread that’s more than shredded lettuce and mayo. I’m pretty sure there was only 10¢ worth of egg in there. For $ 4 I could get an egg sandwich at Subway with 2 scoops of egg and as much veggies as they can stuff between the bread. The waitress was very very nice, super friendly, and I feel sorry that she has to work in such a dump.

While visiting my brother in Hamilton for the first time this past summer(2012), I found Helen’s while checking out the up and coming trendy Ottawa Street North area. You may be a bit put off by the décor, it’s a bit dated, but the food is extremely reasonably priced and good! I went there for breakfast by myself and thoroughly enjoyed not only the food, but the conversation between clearly regular customers and staff. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, nothing fancy but good restaurant that is family friendly Helen’s fits the bill! The only negative I have is, and this is something near impossible to address without costing a small fortune, is the bathrooms are downstairs, not friendly for anyone with mobility issues. Not a big deal for most of us, but will affect some people for sure.
