If you are not in a rush, the food is actually really good. And by not in a rush, I mean you better have your whole night free. But it seemed like there was only one waitress working for the whole place as well as being the bartender. Also, didn’t find out that the credit/debit machine wasn’t working until after when I tried to pay. This was pretty annoying as I was traveling on business internationally and didn’t feel like dealing with my personal card at a random ATM. So overall, Food: 4/5, Service 1⁄5.

Yesterday, 6 friends and i decided that we were craving some mexican food. We headed down to Mex-i-can with high hopes and extremely hungry stomachs. We got seated, got our hands on some menus, and waited. And I don’t mean five minute get settled waiting, I mean sit there for 20+ minutes to even be acknowledged waiting. Finally, our server came and took our orders. After such a long wait, it was to the point that me and my friend were worried about ordering a specialty drink(margaritas). As we predicted, another 15 minutes for drinks. Ok, now this is the cherry on top. We finally get our food. Serving 7 people means several trips back to the kitchen which is understandable. So as one end of the table got served the other side waited. But no one could start eating because there was no cutlery handed out. Our waitress literally handed out each plate one-by-one not even batting an eyelash that we couldn’t start without silverware. While she was in the kitchen fetching one of the last plates to be served there was a lull of time. We were all so hungry we decided to get the attention of another worker. My friend made eye contact with him and asked politely if we could get some knives and forks. He didn’t reply, he didn’t get us any cutlery, it’s like he saw right through her. BUT definitely heard her and chose not to respond. I couldn’t believe that I even witnessed that; I’m still flabbergasted by it. Eventually, all the plates were served and finally we received our cutlery. However by the time all the plates were on the table, and we got all the appropriate utensils to eat, the first half of the table that got served, the food was cold.(We were also sat near the door which could have participated in the temperature of food) But again, scared of the enivitable wait if we sent the food back we powered through the cold burritos. Portions were generous, taste was pretty mediocre. Overall, the expierence was bad. Almost comically bad. My suggestion, stick to burrito boyz or mucho burrito for your mexican cravings.

An Insult to Mexico. Me and my guest were ignored when we sat down and waited for quite a while. There was only one other table. and were loud and ignorant. Unfortunately for me and my guest they were also best buddies with the staff. I wanted to give this dive a chance so We bought one dish and one appetizer to share. It took forever to order then receive the(food) ? Both dishes were a disgusting brown colour. I have been to Mexico and this is Not what their food looks like. Evem in the poorest villages each plate of food is a rainbow of delight. We told them to take it back. we left never to return again.

Some things I liked. Some things I did not. What I liked: meat dishes(I had pork taco) are full of flavour and taste slow cooked. Very filling. Service time was decent. Prices are reasonable but a little on the high side given the quality of the meals(see below). What I did not like: meat dishes were heavy on the grease(I thought sauce was dripping from my tacos into a small puddle on my plate, but no it was oil) and light on the veggies. The nachos were cold and looked like what I can buy at the Superstore. The salsa(dare I call it that) served with the nachos looked and tasted like tomato sauce. They ran out of guacamole. The place was clean… but still felt dingy. I can’t say I’ll rush back here for Mexican food. But it was not a bad experience either.

Decent Mexican food at reasonable prices. Some pretty interesting options. Didn’t really like the chips, wouldn’t be surprised if they were out of a bag. I expect fresh made from this kind of restaurant. Margarita seemed to be from mix but plenty of booze in them. Service was friendly and reasonably quick. Décor kind of funky if not spectacular. Interesting place that is worth a return visit. I guess I’m spoiled by some of the Mexican restaurants I’ve been to in the USA, this one was definitely OK but didn’t blow me away. Major plus is the great vegetarian/vegan options. Worth noting, they do not take credit cards, cash & debit only.

My husband and I were passing through Hamilton to catch a flight and quickly looked up Gluten Free restaurant options online. We came up with Mex I Can and let me tell you, it’s not what we expected at all! Honestly, it’s located in a rough area of the city and the restaurant itself is pretty worn down HOWEVER we had a great server and the food was surprisingly awesome! It’s some of the best mexican food we’ve had which blew us away! Would I recommend this place to my Grandma? No — not unless I was okay with the possibility of a mugging(haha!) but I think I would go back for the adventure and great food if I was in Hamilton again.

Food is complete microwaved garbage. The $ 8.50 margaritas are a half shot of tequila topped with Fresca. The owner and manager of the restaurant refused to take the crappy drinks off our bill and insisted that the drinks were genuine margaritas. I’d rather eat my shoe than ever eat at this dive again. Oh the bathrooms are tiny dirty closets with garbage overflowing onto the floor. No soap in the dispenser and wreaks like an outhouse. Also disappointing the owner takes all of the servers tips! Taco Bell is world’s above this place!

YUM. Their vegan options are killer, the cactus is delicious. My boyfriend and I get the vegan burritos, tamales or enchiladas and all are yummy. You need to ask for extra salsa, it is SOGOOD. I would drink it if I could. My one complaint is that every time we go and get a particular server she always argues a bit with us when we say we want it vegan. Always claiming that lots of vegans eat cheese and sour cream. My issue with this is why have a vegan and a vegetarian option on the menu if staff don’t know the difference and tell patrons they are incorrect. I still love this place and come back often. Other than that recurring incident the server is good, staff are fast and friendly.

When you walk into Mex i can, it feels like you have just stepped into the lobby of a 3 star Cuban resort. A little sketchy perhaps, but have a seat and wait for the food. I usually get the super burrito, and it’s always incredible. The service isn’t the best, but everyone in there(staff and customers) are always smiling. It has a great atmosphere. I hope they never renovate. The painting of the anaconda fighting the jaguar is awesome. I hope it never sells(.and I’m fairly confident it won’t).

Pics looked good so I had high hopes. We started with a «queso fundido», which if I hadn’t had queso fundido before I would say it was ok… And it was but just that… Ok. Then we had tacos and those were great, however we ordered them the Mexican way… No sour cream, no rice and no beans… although food was ok, service was atrocious! Super slow! I may go back if I am craving tacos … But I would not look forward to the bad service.

Food was OK, but service and table maintenance horrible. Visited on a Saturday for a late lunch and when we arrived, every table was either occupied or still covered in dishes and glasses. When we were finally seated and I watched our server I understood why. She could take plates out of the kitchen to a table, but whenever stopping at or passing by a table with empty or finished plates, returned to the kitchen empty handed every time. Had to try to make room at the table as things piled up. I saw no reason to want to return.

Fantastic food. Guacamole was excellent as were the enchiladas and burritos. I’d recommend trying their chorizo — fantabulous!

I was excited to try thisplace. The décor makes it seem like it would be a good budget Mexican place. But then when we sit down and look at the menu — its so expensive! So much for budget. They try to fancy up the food with some nice presentation. Really though, it’s average food, in bad décor, for high price. Disappointed.

The décor and condition of this restaurant was nothing short of slum-like. It felt like we had been transported to the Barrio district in Tijuana! If the owners were aiming for cultural authenticity… they certainly succeeded. The food was mediocre, and the prices were too high for the pequeno portions. The only positive part of the dining experience was our server. He was pleasant. Bottom line; Mex I Can should be re-named — Mex I CAN’T!

Food was Mex I Can and was delicious. Service was decidedly Mex i Cant. Large portions but importing those cacti to Hamilton sure must be expensive. Don’t bother with the mixed drinks, they were sad and I’m pretty sure my margarita was made with kool-aid. Did not honor our wagjag because we forgot our printout despite having the number in the wagjag app. Did not honor plastic money. I know your going for the whole rustic Mexican vibe but if you’re going to charge these prices get with the 21st century amigos. We will not be returning.

Without question the best-tasting, most authentic-looking Mexican food I’ve tasted in a long, long while — well, since my last visit to Mexico, I’ll be honest. I’d heard great things, but took my time getting there due to an inconvenient location for me personally, and from the outside the restaurant does look a little bit sketchy. However, when I walked in with my family, my book-by-its-cover judgement was confirmed — the inside of the place looked sketchy! Haphazardly thrown together. One reviewer on this page nailed it on the head, and I said as much to my wife at the time. I said, «The place ‘feels’ like an off-resort, side-of-the-road, Mexican blue-collar restaurant.» Décor aside, the food and the service were amazing. 7PM on a Saturday night, hopping busy and the service never waned once. Our server was a tall, dark-skinned, could’ve-been-a-pro-ball-player, Dominican fella — ridiculously friendly, and helpful with the menu. We talked about baseball and his favorite Dominican Blue Jays. Solid guy. Anyway, cutting to the chase, there was a mistake — a miscommunication as it were — between the server and the kitchen. Don’t know who made the mistake, and I don’t care. Mistakes happen — it’s a fact of life — no one’s perfect and I sure as shit don’t expect my waiter and cook at a restaurant that charges $ 12 max for an entrée to be perfect. Makes sense, right? However, what I do care about, is how they manage their errors, and Mex-I-Can handled theirs swiftly and professionally. There were six of us at our table, but only four dinners were delivered, run to us by a kitchen worker and another server. It was quickly deduced that something was amiss(or missing to be more accurate) and I swear every employee in the place came over to apologize. I didn’t get upset for a second, whereas often I would, because everyone was incredibly polite and steadfast — they brought extra chips and re-fried beans to the table. Offered us fresh drinks. Etc. Long story short — they made a mistake and did everything possible to rectify it. Honestly, I can’t say enough about how impressed I was with the restaurant’s overall management — clearly they know what’s important: excellent ingredients and excellent service. Ambiance and décor quickly fade into meaningless backdrop when the service and food is excellent! I very much look forward to my next visit — and you should too! PS. I had the Chorizo Buritto — awesome. My wife had Chicken Flautas — also great. The guacamole is, without question, the best guac I’ve had anywhere on the planet. I also had half a beef taco(my son couldn’t finish) and it too was the personification of well-seasoned beef stuffed inside a fresh soft corn tortilla.

Low marks for décor, as in kinda run down. 30 minutes to take our drink order on a busy Saturday even though we had reservations. Food was above average though. And recommend the nacho plate with BBQ beef.
