This place is top notch. Their menu selection is fantastic. And they have a great pantry selection for take home item. The restaurant has a net set where you can see the kitchen working below you. It’s super super clean! I definitely need to make some more trips back here!

What a wonderful place to eat. The food is fantastic with very friendly service. Our waitress Steph was friendly, personable, and extremely efficient. We could see our food being prepared in the kitchen… very cool. Thumbs up for a great place.

Today was the first time that my husband and I tried Edible Matters, and we will definitely be coming back! This restaurant & bakery has a perfect balance of cozy atmosphere, great food, a variety of special teas and coffee, and they support local farming. They also have many gluten free and vegetarian options so everyone can enjoy their meals. We came during the weekend brunch.(I recommend coming early, because by the time we left around 12 noon there was a line of people waiting to be seated and the parking lot was so full that drivers were getting«creative» finding a spot to park in.) My husband had the Chicken and Waffles: the chicken was fried nice and crispy, perfectly seasoned and the sausage gravy was deliciously rich! Also, the waffles themselves were beautiful and fluffy. I had the EM Breakfast Biscuit sandwich: the biscuit was crunchy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. It had a perfectly cooked fried egg, crispy bacon as well as home made pesto. It came with a side of kettle chips and pickles. Yum! I should have taken another photo to show off how good it looked once I cut the sandwich in half and you could see the inside, but I couldn’t resist just eating it. I also had my eye on the Smoked Salmon Lovewich, so I think next time we go I’ll give that a try.

It was very busy, but those ladies were HUSTLING! Our server, Kim, was attentive and genuinely inviting. Definitely be back for dinner and future brunches! TIP: Grab some bread on the way out. So SO good!

Amazing. Amazing food and amazing service! Everything is freshly made. You can even watch the bakery put out their amazing treats. Have only been here for brunches — always amazing. Looking forward to trying dinner one day. Worth the drive from the city for this place!

Their bacon cheeseburger was delicious, and their taters were baked perfectly! I’d definitely go here again. The menu was a little bit confusing, if I hadn’t had my friend there to explain to me that I could only order from certain pages at certain times of the day I would have been lost for sure.

I went in here one evening for a drink and appetizer. I sat on the back patio which is really nice and quaint. The menu is a bit confusing because there are certain times you can only order certain foods. I finally found what I wanted to order as an appetizer, but came to discover it was within a certain time frame. The menu itself could be laid out better. I ended up ordering the calamari after determining there was no «pub-style» food available at this location, at least, not within the hours I visited. The calamari came and was not what I was expecting, nor did it look like anything I ever had before. It was curled up like a spring and done in a batter that was very light. The sauce was just okay as well. The calamari itself was extremely chewy and was not enjoyable in the least. When the waitress came to take the plate and asked how it was, I replied with a meager«It was all right» in a way that I should have been asked what the problem was. Instead, she just walked off with the plate in hand, no questions asked. While the atmosphere was very nice, the menu with numerous hours/days only serving certain foods was not an easy read, and the calamari is not something I would get again.

This will be a simple and easy review. BESTBRUNCHINTOWN… hands down… one of my favorite brunches from any City i have lived in or visited. Worth the drive from the city. I am here for brunch almost once a week. Great variety. Fresh and local produce/meat. I’ve only had dinner here once. It was also great, but normally for dinner I head into the city for a more lively atmostphere.

I been to Edible Matters half a dozen times in the past year and I’m never disappointed. The food is always great, service is good and a very nice atmosphere. If you’re looking for nice sit-down lunch, dining experience, or business meal in the Hammonds Plains area this is the place.

Decided to go here on my birthday for dinner(a sunny winter Thursday), partly because we didn’t feel like driving into town to find/pay for parking, partly because I had heard good things in advance about this place. The atmosphere was what I expected: lots of natural light coming in, simple/modern décor, basic wooden tables, but it was bigger than I imagined. The main front dining section where we ended up sitting has about eight tables I would guess? Two others were taken while we were there. But there are also two other sections, identical in style, but it seems like they are only used for overflow on busier nights. You walk up a couple of stairs to the second section/room, which has a fireplace as extra, and then the third room has a full bar/but apparently it’s not fully licensed yet? Anyway, in the long run, this place will be able to hold a large capacity. There are two sets of washrooms as well, which is bonus, clean, private, with your choice of hand soaps! LOL Very friendly service. The half Caesar salad($ 5.50: Grilled romaine, sage brown butter croutons with EM caesar dressing and shaved grana padana parmesan) was perfect. Just the right amount of dressing for flavor without it being soggy. The homemade croutons are like mini garlic loaves right out of the oven, still actually warm! The half Thai salad($ 6.00 Bok choy, bean sprouts, peppers, celery, carrots, cilantro, and mint tossed with chow mein noodles with soy lime dressing) was amazing too. This alone is enough for a whole lunch. Lots of flavor, fresh, satisfying. We came also on «burger night» so I tried the mushroom burger(Portobello, crimini, and button mushrooms with lentils, goats’ cheese and roasted tomatoes). Delicious. This is normally $ 13 but tonight it was $ 16 and included a glass of house chardonnay. Totally worth it! Also, it comes with homemade kettle chips. Normally, I am indifferent with kettle chips out of a bag because I find they are hard/stale-like, but not here! Warm with what looks like some sea salt, just right. My partner ordered the bacon cheeseburger(All beef patty, lettuce, tomato, Oulton’s bacon, and white cheddar on a poppy seed bun. $ 18 and came with a choice of a few beers, of which he opted for a Coors Lite). Decent he said, but he preferred the salad more so. 2nd visit: Brunch on a sunny Sunday in March. Tried the Vegetarian Benedict($ 12. «Two poached eggs on a buttermilk biscuit with arugula, tomato, and real handmade hollandaise, served with roasted potatoes») which was very good and unique because of the biscuit — if you like sweet. Definitely filling. I look forward to coming back here soon for another meal, but at minimum, to buy a few sweets from their bakery section which looked to die for!

I’ve tried Edible Matters for supper with good friends twice. The owners obviously put a lot of thought into the décor and their fresh, local approach. The décor, which works well during brunch and lunch is kind of sterile, upright and glaring over an intimate supper. The new lounge area– with softer lighting, comfy chairs and a more casual atmosphere looks like an effort to fix that. We opted for the new seating area and found it fixed some of our concerns about atmosphere. We went for a later supper and were mellowing out, enjoying the company, lingering over our meals and thinking about dessert when the waitress informed us that they we closing. What?! It wasn’t even 10pm. I guess we should have clued in when we were one of only two or three tables in the place that it is not popular for supper. To get a night out with another couple sans kids is a rare event so it was a let down to have to call it a night prematurely. We paid our bill. It was pouring outside and the other couple had to wait for a drive. The staff was polite but firmly told us they had to close. God thing we had our car; we chatted, laughed and had fun with the other couple while their drive came. The other couple are foodies as well and the food did not meet our expectations: My wife’s fishcakes were dry and not flavorful. One of our dining companions had the Thai salad which tasted like it was dressed with half a cup of uncut soy sauce. The waitress took back the salad and did offer to remove it from the bill and comp her a drink or dessert. My companion didn’t feel like eating anything else after the sodium assault. My dessert, the brownie, was dry and uninteresting. Reading some of the other reviews, and based off the feedback of our dining companions, we will probably go there again but aim for brunch. These days a dinner out is too special an occasion to risk blowing it on a mediocre experience.

I went to EM for the first time today to celebrate my friend’s birthday over brunch. The food was delicious, servers attentive, and the new pub has a great atmosphere. I had the tomato pesto sandwich with prosciutto and my friend had the French toast. Both meals were very good. I topped mine off with chocolate chip and chocolate decadence cookies and she had the carrot cake muffin. There wasn’t a crumb left on the plates! I’m looking forward to my next excuse to drop by EM :)

Despite being a stone’s throw away from my place, I had always just driven by wondering what goes on in there. Well I finally had the right combination of hunger and timing to be able to drop in there with my four year old twin nieces. The waitress was very friendly and immediately brought out a kids menu which included all sorts of things kids like, as well as cartoons to color with the supplied crayons. We were seated right next to the windows that look down on the kitchen, and the twins spent most of the lunch mouths agape as they watched all sorts of delicious looking cakes, brownies, cupcakes and cookies being carefully put together by the kitchen staff. Lets just say the rest of the day the kids were so sugared up it was like they were running on nuclear fusion. They each got a hotdog, which they(uncharacteristically) completely devoured. I had the calamari and two cups of soup(the butternut curry and the chickpea). Both soups were delicious and hearty and were gone much too fast. The calamari was sublimely tender, not overcooked and chewy at all, breaded with gluten free chickpea flour… made for an awesome alternative to the overly greasy and chewy calamari one often encounters these days. On my way out, I was impressed by the number of gluten free breads and baked treats available. My only reason for deducting a star would be the parking/location. That part of Hammonds Plains road can get very busy and the parking lot is awkwardly situated. It seems like an accident waiting to happen, and feel that the restaurant would have been much better served with an enclosed parking lot, but thats just my opinion. Otherwise would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone since they cater to just about every dietary restriction and requirement out there, and in a very delicious way at that.

I had a pleasant time at Edible Matters — really friendly staff, good service, and decent food. Unfortunately, my French toast was a bit anemic — very little browning on the outside and not really custardy enough on in the inside(my friend’s gluten-free version was much browner). It was tasty, though. I enjoyed the housemade yogurt, which was pretty rich. The out-of-season berries tasted okay, but the cantaloupe was pretty nasty. My disappointment might have just been due to poor ordering — my friends enjoyed their eggs benedict. It was fun browsing all the edibles to take home. The pastry case didn’t do much for me, but I liked the sound of some of the ice cream flavours. I noticed the gluten-free bread was pricier($ 9.50) than grocery store versions.

Oh my goodness — what a super fabulous little spot! I have been here now twice for brunch. Both times I ordered their eggs benedict — and yum. Oh so much yum! Their homemade biscuits make this meal amazing. My fiancé has ordered their egg platter and waffles — both dishes were super yum as well! It can be very busy — so be prepared to wait, especially for brunch on Sunday. The staff that works here is wonderful. The first time my fiancé and I went was after our engagement photos at Peggy’s Cove. Our waitress was super friendly and talked wedding with us — now, almost 4 months later, this same waitress remembered us and asked us how our photos turned out and how the planning was going. Such a sweetheart! On the plus — if you love the food, you can even purchase some goodies for home! Overall, a fabulous little find that you need to check out!

We visited Edible Matters for brunch this past weekend and it was a fantastic experience. There was a bit of a wait, but the staff were quick to acknowledge it and were really friendly and polite. The food was fantastic. I went with the eggs benedict with roasted potatoes and it was delicious. The coffee was great and the fresh baked bread we brought home was excellent. Edible Matters is everything you want from a brunch spot — lots of natural light, beautiful décor, amazing food, and lots of smiling relaxed faces. It doesn’t hurt that they have an amazing selection of fresh baked sweets and all kinds of delicious breads, teas, preserves, and various other tasty things available to go. This will no doubt become our go to brunch spot. We can’t wait to come back and try out lunch or dinner sometime as well.

So, it’s 1830 and dinner is in the oven, when the power goes out. It’s either BBQ from frozen or hit the trail. Difficult choice. We’d been meaning to try Edible Matters for dinner ever since we first visited last year, so here was the perfect opportunity. To cut a long story short, my daughter ordered the night’s special, pasta with chicken and sausage; wife went for seared haddock and I chose the free range chicken. All three were nicely prepared, though the sauce with the haddock was assessed as a bit too thin and the fish was a little dry at the edges. The pasta was superb, with a very generous portion of chicken and two varieties of sausage, one of which was quite spicy. As for my chicken … On the first bite, I remembered what chicken used to taste like when I was a kid. For the most part, today you get water saturated, chemically injected meat flown/shipped in from God knows where and it tastes of nothing. Not this beastie! Subtly flavoured, perfectly cooked, succulent. The veggies were superb as well. Two out of three ain’t bad and we will definitely be back.

What I love about Edible Matters: — open airy space with dark hardwood floors and delicious amber lighting. — windows along the kitchen where I can sit and watch them create my meal. — the cucumber lemon water(so good) — the food(at least what I’ve tried so far) What I didn’t love about Edible Matters: … … … *crickets* Right, that’s just it there wasn’t anything I didn’t love about Edible Matters. I think the kinks have been worked out and all is well at this newest establishment off of Hammonds Plain road. We went on a sunny Saturday afternoon and almost immediately knew we would love what the place had to offer in the way of food, atmosphere and just plain old«what a great way to spend an early Saturday afternoon». I had no idea what to expect as we walked in. The first thing that really catches you’re eye is that you walk into a «market» like atmosphere. When they say they use local produce, meats and dairy they aren’t joking. You can buy the exact same things they are using in the kitchen. That’s commitment folks. Commitment to not only saying they use local but proving it as well. The menu is simple. Sandwiches, soups and desserts. But let me make this clear: The food is not simple. It’s complex even when coming between two pieces of homemade bread. Meegan and I always go halvies on food so that we get to taste two items instead of one. This time we went with the chicken club sandwich and Tomato Pesto Sandwich. Both a win in my book. The bread was thick cut and toasted to perfection. The chicken club was my favorite of the both but I won’t lie I licked my fingers after eating the tomato pesto as well. The homemade kettle style chips were gone in a few seconds. I opted for a bowl of butternut squash soup as a side and it was fabulous(I would have licked the bowl if not out in public) and the bread and butter pickles that accompanied the meal was like a little dessert in my mouth. The only reason I’m not giving it a 4 star? Cause I want another excuse to go back and re-review this place like something fierce. Seriously kudo’s to the genius behind EM. This place is new so be a little patient as they work out kinks of being new(Front house staff is a little overbearing if not overly eager to help), but go with a an open mind and a appetite(and someone else so you can go halvies) and you’re probably gonna love this place.
