My wife and I have eaten at Lapointe’s for about 20 years starting with the one downtown. In recent years we have gone mainly to the Kanata Lapointe’s. We often order halibut fish and chips and the fish is usually very good. The fries are another matter… they are usually unevenly cooked tending to be over-cooked and are often soggy… not what one expects when paying $ 20 per serving of fish and chips. The complementary dinner roll used to be served soon after placing your order and was always fresh. Over the past year the dinner rolls have been served 15 minutes or more after ordering and have not been fresh. Tonight they were the worst ever… hard little turds that looked like they had freezer burn… disgusting. This Lapointe’s must have very weak management.

Food was just a-ok. Their website says they have 10% off all food on Wednesdays, but when I was paying for the bill they rejected the 10% discount saying that the website was out of date. Their website says«2016» on the corner and outdated. yeah. Will not come back to this place. Be aware that the promotions on their website *might be fake*.

This is my first time to visit. My friend recommand me to try Monday Mussels(all you can eat mussels). I have to say it is amazing. There are 14 flavors you can choose.(Every flavor offed with one big plate, they are so generous)。You can eat 14 plates or more if you are really hungry or you are mussel lover :-) Besides, they also offer buns and fries if you order all you can eat mussels. And it only costs$ 13.99 per person! Definitely come back again. High quality food and service but cheap price. It is worthy!!!

Fun but Mixed Experience at LaPointe’s. We were a little taken aback to pay $ 120 for two for dinner at LaPointe’s. The $ 9 beers* did some damage. Other than that, the staff was friendly, the food was good to very good, except for one point. First the good: the New England Clam Chowder was A-, the caribbean swordfish a solid ‘A’, the fried smelt appetizer a ‘B+’, the garlic spinach was good. Then the bad. I ordered bluefish. I was served a wonderful, light, flake-y almost sweet white fish, however what I ordered was Bluefish. Boston Bluefish. If you’ve eaten bluefish, you know. Bluefish is a dark, strongly flavored fish. I asked our friendly waitress who talked to the sous-chef. The sous-chef said«that’s what the wholesaler sends us» — which either means«I’ve never seen bluefish in my entire life» or «I’m not admitting anything.» Either way, quite disappointing for a seafood restaurant. Nobody forced you to put it on the menu. — — - FYI they don’t charge $ 9 for locally brewed beer in downtown San Francisco. Beer at the Ottawa airport at the bar at the gate costs $ 9. Yes, I know this was a «20 oz beer», have you heard the expression«to leave a bad taste»? I hope the extra 2 to 3 dollars are ‘worth it’.

Fish and Chips! Boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner the other night, we usually get take out, because he lives right down the street, but we decided to go in this night. So glad we did. The server was wonderful, even though we got there 45 minutes before closing. She was cheerful and very helpful. I usually have just ordered what Ken is ordering, Haddock and chips, but that’s only because I don’t know the difference between fishes. I asked what her favourite was, she suggested the Halibut. It’s sweeter and has thick flakes. It was DELICIOUS! Ken had his usual, and enjoyed it. As usual. Everything was made fresh, and I know this because I could see the cooks pretty much rolling their eyes when we walked in: D Since it was so late, the restaurant had pretty much cleared out, just 3 tables were filled, including ours. Nice and intimate ;) AND our server gives 10% every Wednesday!

Dear Reader, This should have been a nice experience, but unfortunately I cannot recommend Lapointe. Ordered a small Caesar salad and a lobster dinner. Took over 45 minutes to bring the salad, while another person who came in 15 minutes after me somehow was served a small Caesar 10 minutes after he sat down, two seats away from me. (Question — should the wait person have brought bread/butter in the meantime? I believe other tables received these). The wait person brought finally both the salad and the lobster at the same time — but the lobster was luke-warm(at best) and the vegetables were actually cold. French fries underneath the lobster were cool and limp. I asked about a lobster pick, as the fork provided was insufficient to remove meat from portions of the claws — was told«people take the picks…» — never got one. There’s more to whine about, but frankly I expected a MUCH better experience from a restaurant of this apparent caliber. I ended calling the restaurant to offer my observations — they responded by saying«we’d be happy to have you in again for a meal in the future, but I’m from out of town and don’t expect to be back in the area in the reasonable near term. Any other restaurant in my experience would have refunded the bill or at least a portion thereof. Really upset about this. $ 50 for a mediocre Caesar salad, luke-warm lobster(without pick), cold vegetables and soggy cold fries? Come on…

I don’t know if this is just me, or its Kanata thing but finding a restaurant to dine at on Sunday afternoon is difficult. After endlessly searching my friend and I decided on Lapointe. A gem tucked away in a small neighborhood. Our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was fresh with large portions.(A small soup could suffice for my entire meal) Had the fish and chips and shared it with a friend and still had leftovers in the end. Would highly recommended!

Great little hole in the wall fish place. I had the blackened Tilapia with tiger shrimp topping. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is great! We live right down the street so we visit often and the service and food quality is consistently outstanding! It tends to get busy on Fridays and week-ends so reservations are something to consider as its a small place :)

I love this place! Finally! A Canadian restaurant that’s still Canadian, and it’s so full of history! The original LaPointe’s opened before Canada was a country. The Kanata restaurant has more ambiance than the one in Bell’s corners. The food is good and obviously fresh. Every time I have been there, it has been crowded. I have already been there about 6 times and of course would definitely go back! So make a date with a friend, go to this restaurant and relax over a glass of wine and a wonderful seafood dinner.

Lapointe is a weird little restaurant since it also is a sort of fish market. Also its located in a strip-mall in the middle of a subdivision. When you walk in, the first thing you see is the big lobster tank and fish fridge/freezer. I actually found this disappointing but this display of fish market takes away from what is otherwise a decent looking restaurant. The service was acceptable, nothing over the top but not bad either. We did however recieve visibility dirty glass with some sort of soda stain. The bread before the meal was actually better than most restaurants. There were three of us there for lunch and our orders were Trout with butter sauce, Lobster linguine and Shrimp linguine. The other two did not have many good things to say about thier linguine; in fact they said red lobster and east side marios had better to offer. Personally I enjoyed the butter trout, it was cooked well and the butter sauce was delicious. I substituted the sides for garden vegetables and those were fresh and colourful. All in all it was an enjoyable experience. I wish the restaurant was cleaner and would also move the fish market section to one end. Also I would go back and sit inside next time.

Lapointe’s with a few Ottawa locations is not a particurly fancy place as it doubles as both a fish market and restaurant. It always reminds me of a typical Maritime establishment that dot the landscape throughout New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The fish is first rate. As an appetizer I always have to opt for the Malpeque oysters on the half shell, as they are for my money the best oysters on the market. The house specialty is either a salmon or(my choice) Sesame halibut encrusted with sesame and panko breading, drizzled with a triple sec, orange and leek reduction. I could just about make a meal out of the breading by itself, which is not your typical beer batter coating. A Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand just goes perfectly with this fish offering.
