O’conns used to be the only real bar in kanata that you could go to. If you want your average bland frozen and warmed up in the microwave food then this is for you! They have a sick dinner and a movie deal where you get a free movie ticket for ordering. The waitresses are nice and the drinks are decent. If they’re still serving florida track suits I’d recommend getting on it ;) Apart from that the night bar is generally full of teens with fake id’s which can get pretty annoying. The real reason I rate it 3 stars is the back pool table area. when I was in my teens this was the perfect place to grab food and play pool and Foosball with your friends for a few hours. All in all Kanata is developing and there’s new competition that may have better food but they don’t have the pool tables!

Sound as an Irish pound you’ll be. Great service and the food is delicious! The fish & chips were plentiful and out of this world!

A solid 3.5 stars, if I had the choice of halves… It’s nice inside, and well laid out, if slightly dark even in the daytime. The one thing they do that I really like is that they offer«Dinner and a Movie» specials, which you can now order with anything on the menu by adding the cost of the movie coupon. Yay! This is even better than it was before, now that you can order whatever you like off the menu! Oh, and the washrooms here rate fairly high — those stalls have nice high walls, and nearly seem very private :-)

Quality of food is not great. Service is all right, but if you there to only drink beer its ok. I have been there twice don’t ask why, and both times left with a question, why does this place still exists?

Freezing cold, and thirsty… waiting for the arena express bus to take us up. we sought out shelter from the wind in O’Connor’s. It was the afternoon, and the bar was empty. We were greeted by no one. literally no one. A woman did come out after a bit of time. She was surprised we were in so early. Surrounded by almost Mid-evil looking décor. we huddled around the grand fireplace and I ordered a Tom Collins to warm my soul. No such luck. she didn’t know how to make one. and silly me, I told her how to make it. One of these days I will find a bar that knows how to make a drink. Haha.

Pretty nice restaurant! Food was good, service was good, ambiance was good! Go for the«Dinner & A Movie» special! It’s $ 18 for any menu item and a movie ticket(menu items are almost all ~$ 10, movie tickets are $ 12.75). If you want to see a IMAX/3D movie, you just have to pay the extra $ 3 or $ 5 charge. The theater is just a few steps away from O’Connor’s. They have a pretty good selection of beers, and some wines and a few other specialty drinks, but not quite a full bar selection. They have big garage doors that are open up to the patio when the weather is nice… but that also makes the adjacent inside dining area smell like cigarette smoke. bleh.

I’ve been going to O’Connor’s since the opened. When it first opened it was a good destination for younger people that didn’t want to go downtown and get involved in that bar scene. Since then, the place has been on a steady decline. Long gone is the full Irish theme. The clientele has gone from young professionals to the people that can’t or don’t go to the downtown bars.

This review is coming from the source. I lived in the Kanata area when O’Connor’s first opened, and I’ve followed it’s progress(or lack there of) for the past few years. The«pub» originally went up during the tech boom, or what was thought would be Ottawa’s golden age. The pub was aimed at business people and their clients. Although common place now, the establishment has connections at many tables to plug laptops into(long before Wi-Fi) was popular. The business clientele they were hoping would stay, didn’t, and it quickly turned into a pub like any other. There is beer there, they have bands there and hey serve food there. What separates it from other establishments? Nothing positive. On the drink side of the coin, despite being a pub, there are no pitchers. This means you will be paying for drinks one at a time. It’s more of a pain than anything else, but a pain none the less. Beyond that they have a good assortment of beers on tap and a fairly large bar. The food is not bad, but nothing to write home about either. It is a lot of classic pub food with some attempts to serve traditional Irish cuisine. It’s fine, but I wouldn’t go to O’Connor’s just for the food. The service is… well it is a revolving door. There are some staff members working there that have been there since Santa Clause was clean shaven, but the amount of turn around is noticeable. Many servers are new, or at least seem like it, which doesn’t always make for a pleasureable experience. It is located by a movie theatre smack-dab in the middle of Kanata’s Centrum. It’s a very suburban area and the pub doesn’t really fit the location. Kanata has limited options, so I wouldn’t say never go to O’Connor’s, just know what to expect: a standard pub with an occasional good band playing. That’s it.

When I first feasted eyes on O’Connor’s I thought this was the answer to the dreams. Out in the middle of the Kanata sprawl, there’s an Irish bar. With a patio. Wicked. We took our seats outside, ordered some beers and enjoyed the warm summer day. I never thought for a moment to look inside. On subsequent visits we entered O’Connor’s hoping for a sense of Ireland as the name would suggest. Well, they have Guinness, if that’s what you mean. As a bar, there’s nothing really wrong with O’Connor’s. It’s got a nice sized bar, good tap list, full complement of drinks, a functioning menu, and TVs that allow you to watch whatever you want. The problem for me is that it’s just not… well…Irish. The décor is much too lounge-y and it just seems a little slick. They do have some good specials, however. A dinner-and-movie package with the AMC theatre across the way seems to stand out from the pack. Not a bad place, but about as Irish as I am.
