This is a pretty historic building on what seems to be a quiet street in Kingston. The staff was very friendly and the room was great with its own semi-private balcony. The only reason I gave this place 3 stars instead of 4 is that we stayed on the first floor and there was some hallway noise. The bed was comfortable but a bit soft. The bathroom was clean but smaller and a bit dated as you might expect in a historic building. I’d definitely stay there again.

Intro: I was looking for a room for three(my mom and sister). I thought I was going to go with some of the big names hotels down by the CIty Hall. After I read some discoraging reviews on Google Maps, I was scared to try them. I was recommended this place and was then on the phone with the front desk, Elyse. She sounded very sweet and helpful. She didn’t have any rooms for three but she thought of getting me a Queen and adding a cot on the side. I was so happy to hear her accommodation. So on I went to look for this Hotel. I found myself at the corner of West and King and lost. I called her again, and she came out to look for me and wave me down. I was so impressed already. She found me and directed me to the parking lot in the back. Some Logistics: I paid $ 179 after taxes for a one night stay on a Monday evening this past week. The interior reminded me of a rich man’s house in the 1800s. The terrace was just an amazing place to sit and have some tea and a conversation. The common/living room was very warmly decorated and inviting. The WiFi is free and showed decent signal in the common room. It got a little flaky out by the terrace. I lived in 204 and the bedroom really wowed me. It felt like a hostel but a hotel version. You feel like you’re walking into 1800 era royalty bedroom. There’s a small bathroom with toilette, bathtub with shower head and a sink. In another small room, a separate sink and mini fridge. In the bedroom area, there’s a tv, some wardrobes and a pretty funky mirror. There’s enough plugs around the room for all your electronics,(maybe 10 all around, really impressive for some house built in the 1800s). Elyse, the Front Desk Attendant, showed us the room to make sure all is well. She moved the cot right out of the storage room into my room. She even offered us complementary tea and coffee and whether we’d like to have it in our room or down in the living room. And so I couldn’t say no and enjoyed my green tea in the living room while checking in to this place on Facebook over their free WiFi =). It came close to 10:30pm and she had to lock up the place and end her shift. We still chatted about each other while she finished closing up. Had a rather intellectual conversation over her Philosophy research and the definition of happiness. We later spent the rest of the night on the terrace and bid farewell to Elyse as she went home. My heart sank a little to see her go =(. She was such a great hostess. The cot was fairly comfortable. I didn’t have much problems with my sleep other than it was a bit warm in the room. I should have turned on the AC before passing out on the bed. Morning came, and breakfast was waiting for me downstairs. We had breakfast together out on the terrace. It seemed like there were a total of 7 tables and 4 were taken. A complimentary light breakfast was offered in a very nice set-up on an antique tray. It came with an english muffin with your choices of jams and cheese. Coffee and tea and orange juice was on my table. After breakfast, I handed in my keys and made my way to my sister’s convocation at Queens.=) Concluding statement: All in all, I was very impressed with this Hotel and their service. Elyse, if you or your boss is reading this, you deserve a big star and a big High Five from me! You can tell how much passion I have for this business from the massive review I’m writing. 115% Grade

Pick a room, any room, they’re all different and so’s this place. Definitely non commercial; 1870’s building with mixed comfortable antiques and Light !- glimpses of waterfront and reflections thereof. Non twee non coy(like ugh the Rosemont) ambiance gives you a feeling of freedom. Steps from a beautiful historic park and magnificent Court House. The Place to stay in Kingston.

Our first choice when staying in Kingston, Ontario(actually I’d never settle for anyplace else). To quote their website: «In the 1940s Vogue Magazine called it ‘the only reasonable place to stay between Montréal and Toronto.’» Well, I’ll tell you what: Vogue was right on. Each of the rooms is furnished in stylish, tasteful antiques, yet at the same time manages not to seem old-fashioned or stuffy. No two rooms are the same, which makes it fun to go back and select a different room for a totally new experience. The Hotel Belvedere is one of those quiet, relaxing places where it’s easy to imagine you’ve gone back in time to a less-hectic era. The sitting room in the first floor is cozy and inviting, and the breakfast is absolutely wonderful – tea, English muffins, cheddar cheese, orange juice served in champagne glasses. Very nice. The only downside is that there is very, very limited parking. There are only about four parking spots behind the hotel – all of which are angled and a very tight fit between the house and what was probably once a garage(it’s not in use now, at least not for guests). Any other cars have to park on the street. Miraculously, of all the times we’ve stayed there, we’ve only had to park on the street once, so I guess it works, somehow, but I’m never a fan of parking in really tight spaces between buildings(while I, personally, always try to be courteous to other cars around my own, not everyone does). If you’re going to Kingston and you like something a bit more posh than run-of-the-mill motel chains, if you’re looking for a great relaxing place to stay, then this is it. I’m never disappointed when I stay at the Hotel Belvedere.
