After seeing the Hilltop Café in 2 different food shows(Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, and You Gotta Eat Here!), we kept talking about going there. Sadly, we should have kept talking. or should have come earlier than 11:00am, when the complete breakfast menu was still available. When we arrived after 12, the place was busy, so we expected wonderful food that would draw a large number of people in. I opted for a turkey sandwich, and thought with their reputation, it would be incredible. Not so. First off, because I wanted soup or a salad instead of fries, I had to pay $ 3.00 extra — on an already expensive sandwich. I’ve never had to pay more to switch fries for a green salad, so that was a shock. Next, I had to pay more to have their cranberry marmalade with the sandwich. To my way of thinking, cranberry is part of a turkey sandwich, so that again threw me. Unfortunately, what could have been a good sandwich(because it was done with real roast turkey breast, not processed turkey), was a too-dry presentation begging for me to take it home to add something. The bread was thinly spread with mayonnaise, the cranberry marmalade only added a sour twist that made my mouth pucker with each bite, and the dry turkey meat was in such thick chunks that the only other moist addition to the sandwich(the tomato) couldn’t do a thing. I love turkey sandwiches, but if this was the first one I’d ever had in my life, I wouldn’t want one ever again. My husband’s burger wasn’t bad, but my sandwich was a total disappointment since the waitress advised me to choose it between the 2 sandwiches I asked her about. Makes me wonder what their other sandwiches are like.

Looking at other reviews, I decided to go there. HUGE disappointment! We had to wait. for over an hour for our lunch since they made everyone’s breakfast fist(even the people that ordered well after us and after the breakfast cutoff time). The owner said we had to wait so long because someone ordered one of the $ 22 burgers to go and it took up the whole grill(again someone that ordered after us). When we finally got our food, it was horrible. The homemade fries where barely cooked, the gravy is packaged, onion Ring are McCains and tasted baked not fried. Their«famous» burger was no prize peice either… Patty was warm and seemed pretty cooked, sautéd mushrooms where cold… I’d almost rather of gone to McDonalds! Their sandwich was OK at best. And their service? Chaotic would be the best word to describe it. And the owner was telling people it’s always like that on weekends. Seriously??? If she knows about it, why has she not fixed it? Will not be going there again!

Quite literally a 50’s diner. Built in 1946(I think) right on Fraser highway. I typically go for breakfast and the service is always great — friendly and attentive. I have the omelettes — tried most of them — and they are exactly what you would expect at a diner type restaurant, simple but we’ll put together. Good portions. Not ridiculously large like some diners, but above average for sure. The place gets busy on weekend mornings, just like most places. If you get there by around 9am it is a little quieter.

Best fries in town! Club House on Sourdough is my usual. Sourdough makes this the perfect size, the Texas toast makes for a sandwich that is too big in my mind! Always fresh and home made!

The place was bustling even before 11:30 a.m. when we tried to beat the lunchtime crowd. Friendly service. I enjoyed a cup of beef barley soup while my husband had the generous eggs, bacon and potatoes.

Very cozy. Their lunch menu is amazing the food portions are really great. Lots of movies/tv shows are shot there so make sure you know it’s open. Really nice service. Can be very busy and seating is limited. I would recommend going on like a Monday or Wednesday.

Always good at this old school diner. I bring people here all the time and we are never disappointed. Never had a bad meal. Especially great burgers and all day breakfast.

Went for some breakfast at this famous little diner — love the look of this place. Retro tables and a long breakfast bar with stools — perfect. Its not very big so sometimes there’s a lineup outside. The servers are friendly and chatty — showed up the large book of all the different tv shows and movies that have been filmed there over the years. We ordered our breakfasts and sat and waited. Now since my husband is a chef we both know how long it takes to cook things and get them out… but…we were sitting directly in front of the kitchen window… we could tell they have been having some issues with their cooks keeping up with the demand. Unfortunately it took 40 minutes to get our breakfasts. We could see they were young and trying their best so we didn’t hold it against them. We saw a few people get frustrated and ask for theirs to go after waiting so long. The food was good — tasty — seasoned well. We saw the huge burgers go by and be devoured by the workmen sitting near us — those looked tasty. Its really unfortunate that their cooks are really slow — would have been five stars for sure. If you’re not in a hurry and want some good food — check them out!

We love this restaurant! The food is delicious and the service is excellent. This is a popular spot so do practice patience if you need to wait for a table, it is worth it! My nephew had his 13th birthday breakfast here today and since they do not take reservations 18 of us descended on the restaurant when it opened and not only were we welcomed with open arms, the staff took awesome care of us and our awesome meals came out in decent time. My husband and I, along with the rest of our family and now a pile of our friends will continue to support this gem of a diner for many years to come. Note: their hollandaise is the best I’ve had so try the Bennies! !

I’m not sure what people are expecting here. It’s a diner. It serves diner food. Not hipster diner food with arugula dressed burgers and rosemary infused syrup, it’s old school diner food. And it’s delicious. The funny thing? I grew up maybe 3 km away from this place, and never went once. And every time I visit my parents it’s for a family meal, so I’m not looking for a place to eat when I’m in the area. But my sister and I and kids were returning from an ill prepared camping trip and were starving after a couple of days of subsisting on ramen and pop tarts. Perfect time to try out the Hilltop. Our table got the Hilltop burger, the classic burger, crispy chicken burger, and a patty melt. All were excellent. Again, nothing novel about any of them, but well executed classic burgers– real(not frozen puck) patties, salted properly, good fresh toppings, juicy but not greasy. Fries were skinny hand cut type. Actually a little too crispy for me, but the rest of the table loved them. But the real reason we were here was for the pie. We got pecan, chocolate fried banana, flapper, and peach. The chocolate fried banana was basically vanilla and chocolate cream pie with slices of caramelized banana throughout, covered in whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce. It was delicious and huge, and my neice could only finish half. The flapper pie is a vanilla custard pie on a graham cracker crust covered in meringue. The pecan and peach were traditional style and also excellent, with flaky-tender crust and fresh tasting and not too sweet filling. My favourite of the 4 was the peach, but all were amazing. They were the best slices of restaurant pie I’ve ever had*, including the crazy expensive Aphrodite Pie Shop, True Confections, White Spot, ABC, the Pantry, etc. Price wise, this is not Bön’s cheap, BUT I think the pricing is fair for the quality. You’re paying about the same as a White Spot meal, but I think the quality and taste is much better. People are willing to pay a premium for a meal where they give you a cloth napkin, I don’t know why you wouldn’t pay an extra couple bucks for something that’s way more delicious than similar offerings. *OK, the pecan pie at the Camellia Grill in New Orleans is better(if a bit different), but as far as restaurant pie within 4000 km, this was by far the best. And the Hilltop’s cream pie was miles better than Camellia Grill’s, and I thought it was great at the time.

This place is THEBOMB! Myself and my spouse watch those TV food shows and try to check out every local place we see on those shows. Hilltop Diner did not disappoint! The interior offers a genuine diner experience. Staff are extremely warm and welcoming and seem to genuinely love talking to everyone. It is hard to find this kind of service and it is truly appreciated when we come across it. After humming and hawing for some time(everything looks SO good!), we decided on our food. We both got the Hilltop Burger. It was deeelicious! Perfectly cooked and SO filling. These guys know how to make a good burger! The highlight of my visit, however, was the pie. Oh yes. My eyes were glued to all the pies while we ate our burgers. I couldn’t wait to get into one of those! I decided to try something new and got the flapper pie. It was divine! The slice was massive too! I had enough to take home. I dream about this pie often. It was probably the best pie I’ve ever had. This place is a bit of a drive as we are in East Vancouver. But it’s well worth it. The food and the service can not be beat!

Definitely a place to enjoy tasty comfort food done right. A nice friendly staff and very generous portions. One of the best burgers I have had and that was the Hilltop Burger and was cooked to perfection. The fries were perfectly crispy. I recommend the flapper pie for dessert and the portion is enough for two people. Worth the drive for some good diner food. Biggest complaint is the hours. Not open long enough which means you can’t just stop in anytime.

In mid December we visited Hilltop for breakfast, on the strength of reviews and the obvious busyness there. The meal left a lot to be desired. The french toast was very dry, too thick to properly absorb the egg. The breakfast bowl was requested with egg poached, which the server said the kitchen could not do(even though the menu also listed Bennys, which require poaching!) and brought it fried crispy with broken yolk, cold toast and a farmers sausage that was advertised as ‘homemade’ though the brand used is factory mass produced and of inferior quality to locally made real farmer’s sausage — all in all a real disappointment. But what prompts this public review is that an email sent directly, complimenting what was done well and suggesting improvements where badly needed, has not been responded to, not at all, at all. So our planned second visit, to give a fair second chance, has not happened. We cannot give this place even one star as things stand.

Such a wonderful place! Went to early for lunch but the breakfast was heavenly. One thing I found very nice was that they actually used the right amount of butter on the toast. It’s the little touches like that, that make the Hilltop a very special place. Also have to praise the potatoes, omelette and last but not least, the service.

This has been in our«to try» list for a while, so my in-laws took us here in our way back to Langley from the Abbotsford airport the last time we visited. The food is definitely comfort food. If you want a hearty, no nonsense breakfast, his in your place. I really enjoyed the baked beans, but could have done without the hash browns, which are more of a smashed potato. They lacked seasoning for my taste, and there were a ton of them on my plate. My husband got the apple fritter sandwich, and he really enjoyed it. We like seeing spins on traditional food when we go out to eat, and this definitely hit the mark. The service was friendly, and they made sure we got a table, as our one year old son was with us so he counter was not feasible. The food took a little longer than expected to come out, but it was hot. I also really liked the whole wheat sour dough, a first for me. We got some pie to go, the brownie and the chocolate banana. We probably should have eaten them that day, as they didn’t do well in the fridge over night. The brownie was tasty but dry, and the banana was again tasty, but the bananas had a slimy texture to them. That was probably more due to us storing them than anything. I would definitely give them another go when we’re back in the area.

Can’t go wrong with the Hilltop Burger, it’s exactly what you want when jonesing for a real burger or some diner eats. With fries, gravy and a Coke it’s the perfect lunch. The burger is stacked with fried mushrooms and onions, gooey cheese(just like it’s supposed to be), crispy bits of bacon, some mayo based special sauce and all the other diner type burger toppings. I always sit at the counter and the service is always quick and friendly. The pies look amazing but I’ve never had room to try one. Five stars if you’re looking for tasty and freshly prepared old school comfort food.

I can only comment on breakfast, but this is my favorite of all breakfast places in Langley to date. Fantastic service, amazing food, and a funky, cool but comfortable atmosphere. The waffles were superb, the bacon cooked to perfection and my coffee was kept warm throughout. I’ll be back again and again, to be sure. Really want to try the famous pie! It’s a small diner(maybe 9 or 10 tables), with 7 stools at the counter, so you might have to wait, but IMO it’ll be worth it.
