I am a building contractor buy 2 – 3 fences a year. Bought a fence Oct 2015 from Surrey Cedar in Langley. A section blew apart in March 2016 during storm. Examination revealed 75% of staples missed slats making panel structurally unsound. They took no responsibility. Wouldn’t even examine the section. They sold me on this fence siting better workmanship than their competitors who were 15% less cost wise. Quality sucks. Looks good but not soundly constructed. If they gave me this service as a contractor who buys a lot of product(basically the middle finger) imagine the treatment a home owner would get. Further if other sections built with same quality fence will start to sag earlier and need replacement sooner than it should. Can t recommend where to buy but shouldn’t buy here.

Went to the Langley yard to purchase cedar shingles. Well good luck to receive any customer service. Clerk in the retail office was far from helpful, the person in the yard couldn’t help. I am surprised this company is in business.

Long story short version of our review is to hire the subcontractors(in our case Eagle Fencing) instead of paying Surrey Cedar. Customer service is lacking at Surrey Cedar and even though their website states they don’t use subcontractors, they do. Long story version: We selected Surrey Cedar based on reviews and on the fact that they claim to use their own crews, not subcontractors, to install their products. Nothing wrong with subcontractors but I like to know who is doing the work on my house. Eagle Fencing(the company subcontracted to install our fence) was friendly, completed the job quickly and even pointed out a few issues with the fence panels they were given to install at our house. Apparently there a lot of customers surprised to have a subcontractor show up at their house after hiring Surrey Cedar who states on their website: «Unlike our competitors, we only have our own crews — not subcontractors — do installations for our customers. This guarantees that the quality and service you receive is to Surrey Cedar’s standards: the highest in the industry.» Surrey Cedar customer service wasn’t particularly fabulous either. We were given a start time of 9am and advised that we would receive a call if that time changed. We arranged for someone to be home for the installation in case anything came up and when the crew was a few hours late I called to check in and was told unapologetically that they went to a different job instead of ours but would come by at some point before the end of the day. After the installation we called to let Surrey Cedar know about two issues with the fence panels and locking mechanism and also mentioned that they should probably advise people that they do use subcontractors, not their own crews, to install their fences. They explained to us at length how their subcontractors are basically the same as their own crews because they use the same companies all the times so their website isn’t lying. They said they would send someone to fix the issues with our fence but did not inform us when they would be coming. The crew showed up unannounced and let themselves into our back yard. As we have a dog(and had mentioned that on the phone with the customer service rep) we did not appreciate someone coming into our yard without letting us know as she could have gotten out. We received five phone calls and two emails in a two-day period asking about payment. We got back to them quickly but that seemed pretty excessive considering our bill was not delinquent.
