Came in for lunch today with my mother and 4 children under 5. Usually we enjoy the food at the chef’s menu and always recommend it to friends and family. That won’t happen again nor will I be back. We waited 25 minutes for our meals, hamburger, fries and nachos. When finally the food came we had to wait an additional few minutes for the waitress to bring out ketchup, sour cream, salsa and the dipping sauce for my sweet potato fries. which was just annoying after such a long wait. The gravy for the fries was bland and watery, the sweet potato fries were burnt, the onions on mom’s burger were cut about a half an inch thick… way too big for a hamburger and she asked for no mustard. there was mustard. Having waited that long and knowing we had no time now to up and leave and go elsewhere — we made the best of it. When we finished eating we told the waitress, she asked if she could do anything. I told her we weren’t paying for the gravy because it wasn’t good and she took it off the bill… and that if a customer has to complain about multiple things through a meal then they should be discounted at least. I can cook meals at home that taste great. I go out and expect it to also taste great and not have to complain. She told me she didn’t have the authority but she wouldn’t mind taking it up the ladder. She came back and said the chef said he wasn’t going to discount us because we ate it. I reluctantly paid my bill… $ 40 for 3 orders of fries and a nachos with just cheese and peppers… and told the waitress to let the chef know that was poor management and we would not be coming back or sending anymore of our friends. Chefs and waitresses have bad days, accidents happen, whatever … but at least make good on it. For the chef to say he couldn’t do anything because we ate the food… yeah we had invested half an hour and had no other options because of that. If we hadn’t eaten the food there would be no conversation about it because I wouldn’t have paid at all.

This restraunt is a hidden gem. The décor is so nice and the customer service is amazing. I ordered a ceasar as I usually do and it was delicious. I had a appetizer of mussels in a cream of basil sauce and it was unbelievably delicious. For my main dish I had the salmon with steamed vegetables and it was by far the best salmon I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this place. I have been there a few times now and have never been disappointed.

Thoroughly enjoyed their Thanksgiving Day dinner. Very generous portions of roasted turkey with all the fixings. Their homemade pumpkin pie was delicious. Only knock in my opinion is the seating plan. not a fan of too many booths compared to open seating. I recommend Chef’s Menu for sure.

This restaurant is a hidden gem and will definitely be added to our favourite restaurant list. The pastas are awesome and as good ot better than any we have had at more expensive restaurants in Halifax. Our server Kevin added greatly to our dining experience. We had the special, which was a cajun chicken and bell pepper linguini with home made caesar salad… superb!!! Thank you, we will be back for sure.

Halifax has a very big selection of good restaurants, which makes it hard to post a review. Great food in this place & I did enjoy the caesar drink. I’m glad this town is full of unique restaurants instead of OJs, Boston pizza & all that other crap that fills rest of Canadian cities. Beer selection could use an upgrade(draft would be great), but if you enjoy wine, it has a better selection. I would go back!

What a great restaurant for Sackville! Personally i love a sit down restaurant and Boston pizza was getting boring. Now that Chef’s menu has opened i can have a sit down dinner with very tasty food& excellent drinks. The décor is perfect and the location is also great! Couldn’t ask for a better restaurant!

Best meal I had in Halifax. Salad, entrée and dessert were all excellent. Spinach salad was excellent! Lemon pepper haddock! Carmel cheesecake… yum! If you are staying near the airport… stop by or backtrack before hitting the pillow. Worth the stop off the beaten path!

There’s not many places outside of the city that are on my radar of restaurants to try, but with some great reviews online and from my girlfriend and her family, Chef’s Menu became one of those few. We popped out one weekend around lunch time, and although it wasn’t on the menu our waiter mentioned a few brunch items that were still available. I was feeling like something light and healthy so I went with the traditional eggs benny. They even ask you how you want your eggs, which I find isn’t always the case with eggs benny, but I still went with the typical soft as you can never have too much runny yolks. Well, as long as you have enough other items on your plate to sop up their delicious liquid gold. They arrived with a generous soaking of tangy hollandaise, bordering on too much lemon juice, but still good. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the slightly sweet slices of ham paired perfectly with the rest of the messy brunch sandwich. The English muffins served their purpose of delivering hollandaise and yolks to my belly, while crisp little homefries did the same. All in all, it was a well done eggs Benedict. A diamond in the rough of the asphalt and strip malls of Lower Sackville, Chef’ Menu deserves the praise that they get and now I just wish they weren’t an hour long bus ride on the 80 away.

I had heard good things about Chef’s Menu so I decided to take my wife out for supper there. We were promptly greeted when we arrived and shown to a table at the window. Our server, Sam, was prompt & attentive but not overbearing. I had the Pan Fried Haddock with almonds and duchesse potato and mixed vegetables. My wife had the Poulet aux Fruits de Mer. Both meals were excellent. No complaints whatsoever. The only«not positive» thing I could say about this restaurant is it was quite loud there. There was a table with a party of 10 not far from us and sound really carries here. My wife & I were leaning in at points to speak with each other. The restaurant could really benefit from some commercial sound masking equipment installed or décor changes with materials that help absorb sound. That being said, I wouldn’t tell anyone to not eat here because of this. All of the other positive reviews are evidence that this is a nice little restaurant in the heart of Sackville & my wife & I agree.

Stopped in here for lunch on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. The place was not very busy(4 or 5 tables of customers) but there was only one server. She had her hands full as it seemed like she never stopped moving. Service was a bit slow but at least the orders were correct. I decided on the beef dip and a caesar salad. Wow. Simply delicious. The beef dip itself was great, the au jus was delightful, and the caesar salad had just the right amount of dressing and giant crunchy croutons. After finishing, everyone decided to get dessert. Two items from the dessert menu were not in stock that day and the cheesecake ‘o’ the day was wildberry(not a fan). So i decided on the gingerbread. Well, let me tell you, it… was…amazeballs. Nice soft gingerbread, that rum sauce was scrumptious, a wee bit of ice cream, and some hand made whipped cream. Needless to say, i left stuffed and happy. Recommend this place to anybody and everybody.

My 2nd trip into one of Sackville’s finest restaurants. Just a small quaint place allows you to feel quite comfortable in their space. Waiter was quick to advise of the special and very thorough at keeping my refreshment topped up! I ordered the BLT Wrap with a side of spinach salad. Meal was just the perfect size. It was made with fresh turkey. none of this processed meat stuff. It was grill pressed… which was my only slight complaint. It was pressed for either to long or on to much heat as the grill marks had a slightly«burnt» taste to them. And of course that taste over powers much of the food. Spinach Salad was done nicely.

I’m always looking for new places to try for lunch or dinner. One afternoon, I was looking for a place to go for lunch. I’d passed by Chef’s Menu many times(it’s on the main drag in Sackville), but had never gone inside. So I decided to try it one day for lunch. The first that strikes you about the place is the contrast between the outside and the inside of the restaurant. The outside has a relatively plain sign and is located in a strip mall, so you’d think it’s not all that great inside. Boy, was I wrong. The interior was bright, with nice colors and a nicely laid out. Quite a contrast between the outside and the inside of the restaurant. The staff where friendly, however the service left a little to be desired. Although not slow, it wasn’t quick either. The food itself was fairly good, not spectacular, but not horrible, however the prices for what you get leave a lot to be desired, considering the portions for the price charged. Overall, Chef’s Menu was a nice experience. I would definitely give it another shot sometime soon

This place is a gem! It’s a nice space inside, that belies its stripmall location. Our waitress was friendly, efficient, attentive and knowledgeable. We were seated in a comfortable booth, and started off with glasses of water while we perused the drink list and menu. The waitress brought us some warm bread to have while we waited for our appetizers. It was possibly a tomato basil foccacia, or something along those lines, and was quite tasty. We ordered the calamari and crab cakes to share. The calamari was very tender, perfectly done. We had the garlic aoili with it, but in retrospect I think some zing would be nice: spicy marinara is probably the better choice. The crab cakes were made with rice, which I’ve never seen before, and were delicious. For a main course I had the sole mousseline(a fillet of Parmesan crusted fish, served with a couple of mussels, shrimp and a scallop, doused with a tarragon cream sauce). I chose the duchesse potato for my side(garlic mashed, piped into a swirl and baked so the outside is crispy while the inside is creamy), and there was a vegetable medley(sauteed peppers, red onion, broccoli). Everything was fresh, tasty, and obviously prepared with care. For desert I had the carrot cake, which was wonderfully moist, The cream cheese icing was rich and heavy on the cheese, instead of being cloyingly sweet like most. This cake was obviously made in house, and it was great. Throughout the meal, I kept waiting for the one element that wasn’t up to snuff, or would disappoint, and it never came. Everything was on a consistent level, well-prepared, presented nicely, and served with a smile.

From the moment you walk in, everything at Chef’s Menu Restaurant feels warm and cozy yet the restaurant is also prestine. All that golden light made you forget about winter outside for a little while. There was a bit of chaos when we walked in: a broken glass, no sign at the front saying if we should wait to be seated, the staff appeared to be so busy it took a while for them to greet us… When they did I told them we had a reservation and they said they would get a booth ready for us. Then we were taken to an area without the booths. With my bad back, I gently reminded them they said we could have a booth and they quickly prepared one for us. I began with spicy calamari. Actually, when I asked about how spicy it was I found out that it was the marinara sauce that was spicy. Our lovely waitress offered to serve it with their garlic aioli instead and I said, yes please!!! Super light, super crispy, I easily ate this entire plate. The garlic aioli was divine. If you order the calamari, make sure to ask for the aioli! So good… I ordered the Seafood Fettuccini which was very filling and even though there was a lot of tarragon, it was not overpowering, just right. The seafood was perfectly cooked but I did need to add a little seasoning. I like my seafood to taste like the sea so for me, it needed more salt. Our table ordered two warm gingerbreads served with rum sauce and old fashioned vanilla ice cream for dessert. Reg said it was the best gingerbread he has ever had. The chef came to our table and asked us about our meal and it was quite clear from the list of things he had to make the next day, keeping up with demand has been a huge challenge. A great challenge and I think they are doing extremely well. This restaurant makes you feel like you are getting a great deal when it comes to quality and price. The staff were a little frazzled but they were extremely friendly and helpful. The space makes you feel very much at home but is elegant and warm at the same time. A wonderful change of pace in Lower Sackville. I hope this trend towards more higher-end living and better quality of life continues because it is quite clear, people around here want it and will pay for it. Reg and I, like many others, will be back.

Couldn’t resist giving this little place a 5 star! Ok it is in a strip mall in Lower Sackville, but you will not be going here for the view. You will be going for the food. It seems everything in this place is made on site from cakes to sauces to cakes with sauces. I had the Rueben which is served on a pretzel bread. This is a great little loaf that has some sturdy texture to go with the smoked meat and sauerkraut. The meat was nicely warmed up in a skillet, the sauerkraut was nicely dry an crunchy and together they made up the tastiest Ruben ever! The French onion soup on the other side of the table was thick and filling. The homemade gingerbread came in a pool of rum butter sauce heaven. The chef had the piece sitting upright in the sauce so as not to get waterlogged — saucelogged? With whipped cream on one side and vanilla ice cream on the other it looked like the gingerbread was floating on clouds with its base surrounded by liquid gold. YUM! One note, this is not fast food. Our food arrived as soon as it was ready — as witnessed by the perfect temperatures — hot for the soup and fries, warm for the gingerbread and cold for the creams(whipped and iced respectfully). Fantastic place on the strip!
