Harrop Restaurant & Gallery

We came here as a group of 5 for my mothers birthday. What a cool experience it was to dine here. The charm of the old house and the smaller intimate rooms for dining as a group or as guests and the friendly service they provide. Once we were seated they started with complimentary bread and dinner rolls, hot out of the oven, and delicious. After meeting the host, the waiter, and hearing about the specials, and finally reviewing the menu, we decided on our meal. One of us had the roast duck, another the steak and shrimp, two more had the steak with peppercorn gravy, and i had the seafood stir fry. All of these meals were delicious, as we passed around samples to each other. The steaks grilled perfectly and i must say the scallops in my stirfry were spot on. The duck was probably one of the best i have ever had. Once dinner was done, i couldnt believe it. the waiter and host came with a guitar and sang a near professional happy birthday in a style all their own. Such a good version that the entire room erupted with applause. Now, on to desert, all the deserts are made fresh there, and the crème caramel was the highlight. You just cant beat the charm this place has, you just dont find places like this anymore. Even after all of this, we went upstairs to their art gallery, and all the pieces are for sale, from paintings to hand crafted items and painted tea cups, I cant say enough good things about this place. Even my Unilocaler helper thought this place was cooler than cool for his grandmothers birthday. I forgot to mention, the ambiance of this place is not only good for a family get together, but if you want an intimate date night with someone, this would be an excellent choice, but make a reservation, i believe it fills up fast.

This place is a hidden gem!!! The food and service was great but the best part in the art gallery upstairs. The owner promotes local artists and changes the artwork on a regular basis so each visit always has something new. I would highly recommend this place for a romantic date night:)
